University protests: Protesters defy Columbia deadline to leave campus | BBC News
Protests calling for universities to boycott companies and individuals with ties to Israel amid the ongoing war in Gaza have swept college campuses across the US.
The campus movement ignited when Columbia University in New York called the police two weeks ago to remove a small group of student protesters who had pitched tents on campus.
Columbia University's president announced on Monday that talks with student organisers had failed to reach an agreement to dismantle the encampment.
The escalating crisis at Columbia inspired similar encampments at private and public universities in at least 22 US states and Washington DC.

What’s confusing about this whole situation is that it’s possible to both condemn the Hamas attacks _and_ think Israel has been more than heavy-handed in its response to October 7th. It’s possible to support Palestinian freedom from Israeli state oppression without being antisemitic just as it’s possible to support Israel against Islamist aggression without being anti-Muslim. These 2 things are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Too many folk are either one thing or t’other in this conflict when it’s possible to be both/and.

Gaza has had autonomy since 2005, when everey jew had to leave. The populations in gaza has risen from 700.000 to 2.000.0000. In deed a strange genoside....... Why should they leave their land? they'll never be able to return. Most of Egypt is an uninhabitable desert only the north is mainly inhabitable so they already have a major overpopulation problem, look it up. When we were attacked on 9/11 we went to Afghanistan. This is the same, Israel was attacked and they are doing this to get the hostages back. Yes some soldiers have committed war crime and they should be prosecution but if Hamas just lets the hostages go, Israel will stop.

I mean yeah, it does seem that simple but there's a problem with Netanyahu, he wants leverage. Hamas have offered hostage exchanges countless times and many ceasefire, unfortunately Israel have declined every single one. The most recent being roughly 2 days ago. Hamas have offered the hostages back and to cease fire, in return they want their land back, the expulsion of the IDF from gaza and their basic human rights back. Unfortunately, Israel have been oppressing Palestinians for nearly a century now and have stripped them of their basic human rights, they are no longer free to travel in a land they once owned, now being confined to what is essentially an open air prison

Peaceful protest is also not something with infinite scaling events - ie : setting up camps etc . All peaceful protest has rules and limits guided by law and community
