Since 2008, Criminology at Leicester has invited high profile guest speakers to deliver papers on current issues in criminology, criminal justice, policing and community safety.
This year the School of Criminology's annual Scarman Lecture 2020 was entitled “Policing, Race and Criminology in the UK”.
Using the Lammy Report, and a 20 minute introduction to some of its insights and larger implications by its author the Rt Honourable MP David Lammy, this year’s Scarman Lecture was an opportunity for a timely public-facing discussion between experts, professionals and criminologists about Policing, Race and Criminology in the UK in 2020.
Responding to the conversation-starter we had the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police and head of Counter Terrorism, Mr Ian Hopkins.
Panelist Dr Suzella Palmer from Bedfordshire University and Dr Martin Glynn from Birmingham City School of Social Sciences also be joined us on the evening to answer questions.
