    Many years ago I found myself wandering around on the Universal Studios backlot in Los Angeles, California. This was a part that of the backlot that was not on the tour. I was walking around a small town square, totally by myself. It was very cool, but gave me such a feeling of unease in the pit of my stomach. I really felt like I was in one of those Twilight Zone Last-Man-On-Earth episodes. I'll never forget how it really creeped me out. I do remember the buildings looked really good from a distance, but when you got close to them, you could see they weren't real, they were only made to LOOK real from a distance.

    I was working for a band who played two nights at the Amphitheater in 1989 and we were afforded the luxury of having a look around the backlot over those two days at our leisure. I constantly had the feeling I shouldn't be there. Odd feeling! Likely because there was no one else around. Fact that the square was set up for the filming of Back to the Future 2 made it an even more insane experience.

    When I was there in 1989, it was set up for BTTF 2. We were told they were filming on location that particular day.

    It blows me away how set designers and prop masters can make a place look so lived in, so much depth, down to the smallest detail. But it's all just a facade.

    Back in 2008 I traveled to Hollywood and paid several hundred dollars just to see Hill Valley and the Clock Tower. I was devastated to learn after the tour started that there was a fire and we could not get anywhere near that area. Well, I'm going to be back there in two weeks. Again, my dream to walk in Hill Valley! But it sounds like sometimes you can, and sometimes you cannot if something is being filmed there. I called and asked if there's some schedule or a way to know for sure on a certain day. They said there's no way to know. Any thoughts?

    Hi Brett, glad you’re getting to go back and I hope you’re able to visit this time. I’m planning a trip for October and it will be a chance of a lifetime. My biggest fear is also not being able to go behind the scenes. Please upload some video of you get the chance. Safe travels!

    I know that with the VIP Tour they take you behind the scenes of most of the areas. Also, they drop you off in Hill Valley and allow you to walk around and take pictures. Call and ask about the VIP Tour and ask if you'll get to walk around Hill Valley. I have not checked the prices, but I know its pretty expensive.

    I was devastated when I found out that this fake town is were they filmed the Hill Valley town and clock tower scenes. At least some of the other scenes in the movie were filmed in real locations, like the McFly house and the Twin Pines Mall parking lot, but I was so sad to see that the Puente Hills Mall where they filmed that scene with the DeLorean is now pretty much dead with only a few shops still operating there. Still, absolutely fantastic movie.

    Yes, it's still there. But book the VIP Tour if it is affordable. It's a private car that drops you off in Hill Valley and you're allowed to explore. Walk around all over and take pics and videos. Similar to mine. It's awesome.

  • @flipjupiter1

    I know what you're saying, but Hill Valley is an exception. This area is actually quite large. A lot of the film sets are deceiving. Amity Island is huge, but narrow and tight. The street where they filmed The Burbs and Desperate Housewives are pretty big. War of the Worlds is small. Bates Motel is small but awesome. Anyway, it's all awesome.

  • @flipjupiter1

    @flipjupiter1

    10 ай бұрын

    Mostly fronts. A few of them house lighting equipment. A couple have empty lobbies. And a couple of them have a 2nd floor, but those are empty too. These are mainly fronts and facades. Just some cool facts, a lot of the old west buildings are much bigger inside where they can actually film there instead of moving over to a sound stage.

I was working on a commercial and had some time after we wrapped.

    First, you're welcome. Were you expecting the DeLorean to shoot out of my ass and into your little phone? Maybe you thought Jaws was going to pop out of your screen? ET and a TRex fall through your ceiling? Or maybe thought Tony Montana would be snorting coke off your moms ass like I used to? I'm incredibly fortunate to be walking around a closed movie set in a production studio that films movies, tv shows, and commercials seven days a week which you consume like air. I am completely alone, exploring a location where everyone's favorite movies are made and I am recording for people like you who dream of coming to Hollywood but will never step foot here let alone a highly secured and legendary location such as Hill Valley. Secondly, you're welcome.
