After 2 years. Tested positive today, feeling a bit surreal after too many negative tests to count! Scratchy throat, a bit achy, a fuzzy head but had these for a few days before the test gave me a light red line. I'm comfortable and telling myself that natural immunity is now being topped up. On vitamin C, zinc, vitamin D, on home made lemon, honey, and ginger drinks. Two family members aged 90+ have shaken it off in a few days! To all who are in the same boat, hope you are resting up. Get well soon.

The ability to test sewage has existed for at least 30 years. I was married to a Sanitary Sewer Engineer. They always tested water for all kinds of bacteria and stuff. Now it is viruses. My husband just got Omicron, triple vaxxed wearing N95 masks most of the time. However, his case of active infection was no walk in the park, he got pretty sick with symptoms and was given Paxlovid and one antibiotic. We are in NYC and people are getting pretty ill with symptoms. This is so contagious no one will escape it . However, this did not need to be this way as leadership in politics and science was so skewed with dishonesty.

You are correct. WA has been wastewater testing for a while (University of Washington, KZread). Before that, the newsmedia in the mid-west was on the issue and promoting it. Here in the state capital county of WA, the wastewater is run by three mayors and the county - and they are less than capable. Most think otherwise unless they dig into the local politics and their tax and spend intent regarding road spending (transportation) infrastructure and the pet projects of our mayors (Tumwater spent over $30,000 on golf balls last Tuesday). We were one of the first states recognizing the SARS-CoV-2 (virus) COVID-19 (disease) and epidemiology is still tracing back to find the index case in our state, with partial success. As far as the wastewater testing goes, I suspect that contracting out and/or the cost of the testing supplies and training is at issue. And, there goes the State of Washington again - with the resulting inflation (tax and spend) money possibly going to the most proficient and expensive sales team for wastewater testing - because of our local politicians. Rent went up from $850 to $1,550 over the past two years for one person, The Olympian, top-of-the-fold for Sunday, April 10, 2022, "Thurston County renters in limbo, wait for resumed aid" by Martin Bilbao. I am a long covid researcher. Please take care to rest more than you think you need to and avoid too much stress or cardio for the next two months. This will significantly lower your risk of contracting long covid, which is actually most common in women and mild cases and can start as late as two months post infection. Another note about the natural immunity. Dr. John overstates immunity protection from having Omicron. I can attest to first hand accounts from doctors who have seen countless reinfections with the B.A.2 variant from patients who previously had Omicron just months, sometimes only weeks before. Just sharing because this information is not widely in the public and many people think they have strong natural immunity when they may not. I'm glad you guys are recovering and wishing you well!

I had Omicron late January into early February. Runny nose and some sneezing the first day, a bad headache and a 101 fever the second night and then it settled into 5 or so days of on-and-off fever less than 100, fatigue and some very minor lower GI. Except for that one night I barely noticed the fever and had to check to confirm. The most noticeable was the fatigue and it wasn't debilitating but just nagging. The entire episode lasted 9 or 10 days. I'd rate it between a cold and flu. I've actually had worse colds but not for that length of time and not that much fatigue. There was no chest congestion and little sinus congestion and no sore throat.

No people need to understand we've been dealing with this disease which has been the same for years before it was even mentioned. It's acting exactly like what viruses of this kind do. Mostly asymptomatic and mild illness causing compounding permanent damage over time and also extremely infectious. From time to time however a variant causes significant death due to enhanced immune response. You might get a few years where nobody you know even gets sick but then another year where half your family dies.

My father was the last Chief Rivers Engineer for the Greater London Council before mad Maggot abolished it for voting labour but earlier in his career had been in positions which included both fresh and foul drainage, and sampling foul water for analysis with additional samples kept (laboratory freezer of some sort - I didn't get to see the lab) in case any had to be re-examined in light of any local outbreaks of ANYTHING-even back then (probably 45 years since he worked on both fresh & foul, and I remember him taking me to work with him during school holidays and it being included back then, which must be over 50 years ago). Samples from each main sewer leading to every treatment station, then again on the outfall to prove it was clean on discharge. "That would mean 100% of cases in the beginning, are asymptomatic?", yes, before an infected person gets symptoms they are infected and passing virus. "Even if only 20% of cases are symptomatic you would still see an increase in those 20% prior to detecting in sewage water…." No, you won't see the increase until the infected decide to test and the test is completed. Asymptomatic/symptomatic means nothing to the waste water (with dissolved poop). The increase can be seen overnight from people who don't even know they were infected. They can also detect virus wiped off contaminated surfaces if the wipe was rinsed in water.

I agree with you about the amazing human immune system. But here's a tip from my own experience over the past 18 months or so... If you think you have covid, or if you know you have covid, stay away from alcohol. It seems to drastically affect the human immune system's ability to fight the virus, even if you have antibodies from previous infection. I suspected for months that there was a correlation. Now I'm sure of it. Last week, I knew that I had it again, along with nearly everybody else at work. Nobody wanted to admit it, so nobody got tested. Nobody got very sick, either. Omicron BA2 was little more than a nuisance until I decided to spend Sunday drinking beer all day. On Monday, for one day, I was hit with the same symptoms I had from alpha 18 months ago, almost as bad. But now I'm fine again. 24-hour covid? Makes me wonder how many people that have been hospitalized from covid happen to be moderate to heavy drinkers. Take my advice. Don't drink and covid.

Now there's flu strains running amok, aged care is in crisis and I bet that's ending a lot of "vulnerable" people's lives but they won't talk about it. Reality is......... Statistics were invented to make sure you can have the data that you want to have, or want to give to people. Statistics is a maths thats all about taking the data that works and omitting the data that doesn't depending on the agenda. When you have data sets that don't work for you you go looking for data sets that do. Anyone stop and think why there's always a new "statistic" that backs up whatever agenda that's being pushed but if you stop and think then it doesn't really add up? I'm married to a nurse and she has worked in heart surgery theatres and recovery for many years. It's been an interesting journey watching her having to comply with loads of hypocrisy and rules that don't add up so she can go to work and now they are ultra short staffed and maxed out due to the flu and having to give recovery beds to flu "victims" however not a mention of it on the news? Don't jump on someone because they question. Don't jump on someone because they believe. This isnt the end of humanity. If you want to hide away then hide away at your own peril and expense. If you want to get on with life then get on with it at your own peril and possibly expense. The world is crippled and we have been handed more debt than in the world wars. Now we are going to have to pay for it. The folks who have "loaned" the money to us could not be happier that we are all bickering over this while the cost of living doubles every couple of years...... People are still arguing and government can't stay on a course over something after it's been prevalent for 3 years? Seems like it's still got legs as good business for some for a while yet........

By the way, the NYT is left leaning. And yes, when it comes to a natural phenomenon, left or right should have no bearing whatsoever in how we react to the situation.

Funny how even the media didn't bring up the public restroom/ sewage points. I worked in a hospital pathology lab and the first thing "odd" I noticed was the Big Box businesses Target, Costco etc. were allowed to remain open while others closed. Chinese goods make up 85% of their inventories. hmmm. Then CDC switched the traditional and most important "death rate" metric for pandemics to a "new case" metric. Fuel for fear mongering. 7,800 people die every day in the USA. Covid can remain viable or contagious within the aerosol plumes generated by flushing any toilet, esp. the public restrooms. Sunlight and salt laden air (the beach) is the safest place you could be without masks or distancing. But CDC's advice was stay indoors? Viruses are so small they are quickly sterilized by sunlight and dried up by salty air. The "stay indoors" edicts made no sense at all. Fauci has a lot of blood on his hands.

And the plexiglass barriers at the pharmacy counter are GONE. The cashier who waited on me was unmasked (as was I, natural immunity, ya know) and remarked about how much easier it is to actually hear the customers speaking with the barriers gone. The barriers are still up at the main cash registers, but the guy checking receipts at the door was unmasked.

Well, no, not before the 'outbreaks' themselves, they are reporting the outbreaks the day they happen. Unlike PCR testing that requires days to ramp up the percentage of positives, which is what they define upticks by, not more just cases, but more cases per test. And the tests don't happen until the infected decide they feel bad enough to test.
