Why not asking the CEO to take unpaid time off

Of course it's not just pilots. If the airlines don't have planes, they'll need to cancel flights. Passengers won't be able to travel, and fares will go up.

Airbus is also having delays with airplane delivery. This is an industry wide thing. Not to mention we're in a slow down in hiring in the industry. This is once again a non-event news story just to drum up drama over something that is always seen in the industry. United isn't the only airplane doing time off for its pilots.

I surprised that United Airlines has not gotten some of the Airbus a320’s that Alaska Airlines retired. Maybe not as fuel efficient as the Boeing 737 Max aircraft but better than nothing.

@@jbar_85 United's brand new A321 had to do an emergency landing due to an in-flight engine failure. There was a door issue on one airplane. That doesn't show "constant" safety issues. The news reporting about a 20+ year old airplane losing a tire, has nothing to do with Boeing.

  • @MrGbustamante

This is fishy... so did they hire more pilots for the planes they didnt have yet? Did they retire planes from the fleet? Not sure why they need to furlough pilots because of planes they never had. Smells fishy. Either way, rotate the pilots and let them rest up between flights and we will all be safer. It will also give them more time to nail flight attendants

@@arosenweig Yes, that's called getting a type rating for the airplane to operate at that airline. Pilots cannot operate a A321 and a Boeing 737 at the same time. You can have a type rating on both airplanes, but that doesn't mean you operate both fleet types with said carrier. I have multiple type ratings, but I can't fly multiple airplane types at my airline.

It’s not that simple unfortunately. Aircraft orders aren’t like Amazon Prime where you can transition your fleet quickly. Aircraft being ordered now likely won’t be delivered until close to the end of the decade, making Airbus orders an unviable short-term fix.
