    I defined the side lengths for each square then setup the equation for sum of areas of the 9 squares = length x width of the rectangle. That equation reduces to c^2 - 48c + 432 = 0. That equation can be solved with c being either 12 or 36. Putting 36 into the equation for c gives area of 16,896 while 12 gives an area of 1920. With area of 1920 however the G square has area of 0 so technically only 8 squares.

    I used an approach similar to others, labeling the sides of square to the right of the 4 cm, as x. I wound up in the top right square being x+44 at the top and the opposite side 3x-12. Setting them equal, you solve for x=28. Substituting back, the length across the top is 128 cm and the length down the side is 132 cm, the product being 16896 sq cm

    Since the puzzle involved mathematical calculation, I am happy that I was able to solve the puzzle. My approach was similar. Just I expressed the sides of all the squares using a single variable say 'x' and then I equated the two opposite lengths to get 'x' . Then we can easily get length and breadth of entire rectangle and then the area.😀

    Thank you Amar for liking the reply. As I said earlier that I used a similar approach. I started with block 'c' as per ur labelling and expressed sides of all squares in terms of 'c'. b= c-4, a= c-8, d= c+4, e=d-a= 16, f= c+20, g= c+36, h= 2c-12 Then equating two opposite sides i.e. f+g =c+b+h we get (directly c instead of h) c=36 cm. Difference starts from here that instead of calculating size of all squares I used algebra Therefore breadth= f+g = (c+20) + (c+36) = 2c + 56 = 128cm length = g+ h = (c+ 36)+(2c-12) = 132 cm Area = l*b = 16896 cm² I just omitted unnecessarily calculating sides of all the squares.

    I started with the sides of the given square as 1cm instead of 4cm, keeping calculations simple. And multiplied the sides of final square by 4 at the end. b=a+1, c=a+2,d=a=3,e=4, f=a+7,g=a+11,h=a+11-4 and so on using the same logic, I got my rectangle as 32x34. Mutiply both sides by 4 to get 128x132 = 16,896 sq cm.

    It was a fun and very interesting problem. But not so logical( 🤔logic : to get to such equations which have one of two variable same like here breath can be 3x-2y-4 and also can be 3x-3y+12 for x and y read below👇😊 and so we can have y and same means as x) it is more algebra and equations And yes I got it right I let upper left corner square as x and a small square under it as y( which later get side length as 16cm) By some equations and solve them I got value of x and y as 56 and 16 respectively. Now from me length(l) is 2x+y And breadth(b) is 3x-2y-4 and by value. As length= 128cm and breadth=132cm So area of rectangle= l×b= 128×132=16896cm^2😎☺️ But I didn't calculate side length of all other square

    Just one thing. While you were adding 4 to a particular side, it would amount to adding 4 to only a length or breadth not both. E.g. if a smaller square had 12 cm side and another had 16 Cm side then adding 4 to 144 (area of 12 Cm square) would not make it equal ro area of 16 Cm square. Would the area of all squares add up to the area of the rectangle as mentioned in your solution ?

  • @LOGICALLYYOURS

    @LOGICALLYYOURS

    4 жыл бұрын

    We just need to add up the lengths (not the area... as you mentioned correctly). But when we have lengths of all squares, we can calculate area of each one... and adding up the area of all the squares gives the equivalent area of rectangle (because the rectangle is divided into those many squares).

  • @Vasudev007

    @Vasudev007

    But as you can see, area of D+4 cannot be equal to E+A as in your calculation since D is anyway bigger than E or A and we are adding another 4 to D. Think about it again.

  • @rutgerdekok1324

    @rutgerdekok1324

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@Vasudev007 Logically Yours starts by calculating the LENGHTS of the sides of the squares, NOT the Areas. Once you have all the lengths of the squares you can calculate that the width of the rectangle = 128 and the hight = 132. So the total Area = 128 x 132 = 16896. If you're still not sure and want to check the answer have a look at this: Little square= 4x4, A = 28x28, B = 32x32, C = 36x36, D = 40x40, E = 16x16, F = 56x56, G = 72x72, H= 60x60.

    @@Vasudev007 I believe I have seen the problem you were having when you say d + 4 is not equal to e + a, you are using all capital letters. And the problem you must notice capital letters are used for area, and lowercase letters signify side length. It appears this is where you reached your confusion. When he was comparing D + 4 he actually compared d+4. I think if you take this this difference into account and relook at the problem closely you will see that you were mistaken. It will be easy if "boxes are square" was replaced by cube and "bigger box is rectangle" by cuboid. Just assume a 3 dimensional world of things :) For a simple way If u place 2 cubes in length axis And 2 cubes in breadth axis And 2 cubes in height axis The resultant will obviously be a CUBE. If u have different number of cubes in different axis (X, Y, Z) the resultant will be a CUBOID. And if u want, u can replace the 3D observation to 2D, SO there will be a result of square or rectangle depending on the case u considered. Hence Explained:) Note: This was my 1st comment so far in youtube. Thanx for ur patience. Hope my next comment will be better than this lengthy rope :)

    If we put 3 exact same squares serially that won't happen ever that the whole shape would be a square.

    if you put 6 1x1x1-squares together, you'll get a 2x3-rectangle

    I misinterpreted "9 perfect squares" as "9 equal squares" and got confused and hot 144 as my answer 🤦‍♀️
