Unique Geocache: "Travel Bug Hotel"

This is one of our caches, definitely the largest one we've put out so far. The cache name and our geocaching name were really prominently featured inside the cache so that's why all the blurring. We are still committed to, as much as possible, keeping these videos from becoming spoilers!

We remember when we were researching TB hotels, seeing pictures of that one, with the drawers and the destination continents labeled! Very cool, it was definitely part of the inspiration for what we ended up making for our own TB hotel. Oh, and we weren't trying to hide our box, so, it's okay that the other one had better camo! Thanks for the comparison, it's an honor to have our cache deemed "similar"!!

  • @UniqueCaches

Yes we do monitor the trackables and occasionally, if the supply starts to dwindle, we go scouting for new ones to bring to the hotel. Most of the time, though, there are between 7 and 15 trackables in there at any given time! Also, we stop in about once a month and do inventory, comparing the list of what's supposed to be there with what actually is. Most of the time people log their TB activity, but occasionally we have to mark one missing.

Every cache we do is different and we are penny-pinching frugal people so we use existing and/or cheap and/or used materials whenever possible, ha!! In this instance, the cabinet was free (given to us), then we bought the box with the drawers and the dollhouse furniture (but we researched online to find the cheapest possible deal!). As for cost of maintenance, except for the printing of the brochures (free at work), there isn't any real maintenance necessary.

Aha but that's what the lock is for... not that it keeps the cache vandal-proof because we had one bashed in and it had a lock on it. What helps even more, though, is that it is a premium-only hide. We have had much less vandalism since changing most of ours to premium. Thanks for watching!

Well, the most expensive component would have been the box, but we got that for free. The hardware organizer box was under 20 bucks and we shopped around for the dollhouse furniture, got the set for about $15. The rest of the items (the wood facade, the wallpaper, chair rail, etc) we made from stuff we had already. Hope that helps!

As for rules, no, we did not lay down any ground rules. So far it has not been an issue, at all times we've had at least 8-10 trackables in inventory. If someone takes 'em all, we'll go out and drop in some, but I think that's the exception rather than the rule, so we'll just roll with it and see how it goes!! Thank you so much!
