UNIQUE COACH SERVICE ! - DOHERTYS TRAVEL Glasgow-Eire/Ireland (via P&O, Larne, Derry & Letterkenny)
When I saw this mentioned on Facebook I just had to try it. Dungloe-based Dohertys Travel operates a twice-weekly coach service from Glasgow to Dungloe via the P&O ferry to Larne, Derry and Letterkenny. At £75 between Glasgow and Derry, it could be cheaper to fly with Loganair.
** Some may notice I refer to the city as Derry and not Londonderry or even Derry/Londonderry through most of the video. This is purely for brevity. In fact the local government district containing the city is called "Derry City and Strabane" and most residents (Catholic and Protestant) also refer to the city as Derry.

I took this bus from Dungloe to Larne back in 2003 after a bike crash just outside Dungloe the same day. That bus was the biggest piece of luck I have ever had on my journeys as Dungloe is in the middle of nowwhere. By accident, and with bandaged legs (my own work), I found the bus station and the bus leaving 30 minutes later. I was back in my flat in Belfast 4 hours later. I am glad they are still around.
Good video. Terrible looking lunch on the ferry. Also as a trade member i could never P & O.

Welcome to the North West Scott! Donegal is a gorgeous often forgotten county in Ireland. It's sparsely populated with no rail links to the rest of the country and also a roughly 5-mile county border connects Donegal with Leitrim and the rest of the Republic. It is possible to fly to Donegal Airport (with loganair from Glasgow) but onward connections are limited and you will need to check with local link buses, taxis, or car rental. Donegal is also home to one of only two domestic flight routes in Ireland going to Dublin and the other being Dublin to Kerry Airport located in Farranfore (15 minute walk to the train station) between the county's biggest towns Killarney and Tralee. The former is worth a visit if you love walking as it's home to one of Ireland's national parks. A potential idea for a video sometime. Love your videos!

Thank you again - these reviews are a LOT more informative and useful than seeing someone farfing around in Business/First class on a jet somewhere on the far side of the planet....
The food looks totally rank. I'm glad you suffered so we don't have to. Likewise the journey.
Thats so much nicer than a flight, great weather ,proper day out .....
Enjoyable and very watchable video as always. Many thanks.
Sounds like a really good trip going by coach and on the ferry. Very nice.
You always seem to bag the best seats! Great videos - thanks!
Great video, Scott, beautiful day for the trip. Cheers from Oz.
What a service. Brilliant 👏 👏
As frequent traveller myself I can see satisfaction and happiness on your face while on the go.... which I am sure other people like my own family, who don't like travelling see as fatigue and inconvenience out of your comfort zone😅. But life is once and travelling is real way to spend life.... 🥂 Cheers 😊

Great video Scott
Just watched your video from derry ,it might be a video that has captured a very rare event in the annuls of history , the great weather i mean in both destinations .👍
Youre making me want to go back to Ireland. I did a Caledonian Ttavel coach holiday to Donegal last year and I loved it, so I'd be Interested in doing one of these buses sometime. Thanks for the info re. tickets.
I'd be grabbing a meal deal from Sainsbury's Local before getting on the bus next time if I were you.
Great video, however having worked at sea myself a few years ago with Northlink to and from Shetland, I could never bring myself to actually go with P&O after the way they treated (sacked) all their hard working staff.
Hi Scott, we just love your videos! We all at home travel along with you 😊! There's just one thing we miss: a map or animation, at the beginning of the vids, so we can locate geographically which cities and places you are visiting this time! You're great, cheers from Brazil! 🏴🇧🇷
Another recent service that has been reinstated is the former Eurolines London - Birmingham - Dublin coach service. Now being run by Bus Eireann. I think it runs twice per week.
another adventure!!

Definitely an interesting route! I'd do it once too, just for the experience, then take the more time-friendly/budget friendly flight on subsequent trips. We've enjoyed the Stena ferry (Belfast to Cairnryan) on our past few trips. This year though we're skipping the ferry for our first Logan Air flight, Aberdeen to Belfast. Looking forward to it.
What truly annoys me is that most folks here whining on and on about how it should be pronounced "Londonderry" don't even come from this town. The reality of the matter is that most folks WHO ACTUALLY COME FROM the town call it Derry. The vast majority of folks here call the town by the name Derry whether you like it or not. Thus if you want to be respectful, call it by that name aswell, instead of being stuck up your own rear and tell the locals how they should call their own town.

Letterkenny, where i now live..
Can’t wait for the Alisa Craig visit/video.
Hi Scott, i used to use this route over to Ireland to Letterkenny, the service used to run 4 days a week in the high season (June to September) on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and 2 days in the low season (October to May) on a Wednesday and Saturday from both Letterkenny and Glasgow, there used to be a change in Larne off the Glasgow bus onto the Letterkenny bus and then the Glasgow bus would go back onto the ferry taking those from Letterkenny back to Glasgow and the bus from Letterkenny would then pick up in Larne and return to Letterkenny, the fare used to only be £100 return as well and this was only a few years ago before the pandemic, I now prefer Citylink and Stena as the return is only £53 as opposed to £150 with Docherty/Bus Feda/McGinleys although its all about convenience.

I’ve been on this P&O ferry a few times with a car, I always book club class now as it’s seriously very well worth the little extra for the far superior experience with free drinks, snacks and amazing service and comfort. I know the recent staff change was disgraceful, but it’s not the fault of the new staff, they are just trying to make a living and they do a good job.
The sooner they build the Boris bridge the better!

A ferry journey is fun? Yes, it was a smashing day, but I find ferries so tedious! Nothing to do but get impatient to be at the destination, crap expensive food - and then there can be delays getting from the ferry to the open road. I just have an aversion to boats in general.....mind you, hanging round in airport terminals for hours before the flight is no fun either!
Derry. Where everyone lives on British subsidies. In fact, that's true for the whole of NI.
I've been PAST Ireland many times, but I've never been there!
Brilliant video, Scott thank you. You passed by my office just as you went to the underdeck of the Craigavon Bridge. I could well have been looking out the window as you passed by. 😂
While back in Ireland ye should look at the enterprise again
I guess it makes sense if you have loads of luggage or just like the scenery. The booking process would put me off though.
Great vid as always Scott. Shame Dohertys chose p&o as their carrier as i personally wouldn't ever travel on a p&o ferry ever again after the disgraceful way they treated their workers by firing them all and employing cheap foreign national labour. I reckon i'm not alone in that sentiment either because the last time i travelled to scotland and back in april i couldn't help but notice that the stena line vessel i travelled on was packed to the doors while the p&o vessel was virtually empty on the same crossing. Serves them right i say, carma! Personally i wouldn't even feel safe travelling on a p&o ferry with poorly trained poorly paid staff as it's inevitable that safety standards have been compromised by this move. 👎 Anyway, Dochertys choice obviously had nothing to do with you and certainly didn't detract from my enjoyment of your vlog. Keep em coming, great channel! 😎😎😎👍

@@davidravenscroft9235 It wasn't carried out with the full backing of the government, what P&O did wasn't unlawful, the government and the unions negotiated with the company to reconsider but P&O knew they had no power and just went ahead with the sackings knowing there was no recourse. It does raise the question over employment law and I think the government should have looked into this after this event to change it so that no other employer could do this in the future. I used to be a regular traveller with P&O but haven't used their services since, not because I wouldn't feel safe on board but because I don't agree with what P&O did to a loyal workforce.
