Union Pacific Coal Train (Racine)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
UP 5947 and UP 7216 pull an empty coal train from the Oak Creek Power Plant south, down Union Pacific's Kenosha Subdivision. UP 5989 is the rear DPU. This was filmed at the Washington Avenue railroad crossing in Racine, Wisconsin.

DUDE THAT HORN WAS FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!
The first video I ever watched on KZread
I love the noise when it goes over the crossing
My oh my!,what a long string of hoppers bringing up the consist.
nice sound on the rails !
135 coal wagons!!! LOL :D
2-3 at most. This is a secondary line that primarily handles Oak Creek Power Plant coal trains and rock trains for the quarry on the north side of Racine. The local comes down from Cudahy once or twice during the week too. There isn't very much overhead traffic due to most of it running on the Milwaukee Sub a few miles west. Occasionally you'll see something besides coal / rock trains if the Milwaukee Sub is backed up, otherwise it's pretty quiet.
Great video and catch
The airbrakes can be activated from both the front and back of the train at the same time with a rear-end dpu, thereby halving the time it takes to activate brakes on the entire train.
hey I remember this video a long time ago
you should make more videos at this crossing
Great video! I filmed a few train along this line last summer, it see's a lot of coal traffic from what I know, great video I really like you location
CP and CN is starting to come out with alternating ditch light. i have seen it mostly on the newer units, that roll through sussex wisconsin.. i live right my 3 main train track locations. UP, CN, CP
Nice video
Up 5947 with a foul nathan p3 horn
Nice catch
@Brenton81 i know this is a random question but how come norfolk southern and csx ditch lights flash but the up and bnsf engines dont? i have allways wondered that and for some reason when ever i railfan it bugs the living piss out of me not to see flashing ditch lights
That sounds like an Buell 10 and 12 ambulance horn.
@southern4501isawesom Code of Federal Regulations, Sec. 229.125 Headlights and auxiliary lights, paragraph (e) states: Auxiliary lights required by paragraph (d) of this section may be arranged (1) to burn steadily or (2) flash on approach to a crossing. My guess would be that steady lights are preferred by some railroads since flashing lights may burn out sooner. Flashing lights may be seen as more visible in a crossing or other hazardous location, however.
nice shot of that area.
Like the click clack cool making music
got a beat to it
A decade ago we never saw DPU's in the back. Is this a way to economize on fuel costs?
Are those kinds of Union Pacifics ac4400cw?

Metrolink Horn (2001-2012)
@southern4501isawesom I'm not really sure. I would guess it's the railroad's decision on how they want them set up. If it were a federal regulation, they would probably be the same all the way across the board. I know the CP, CN, and WSOR don't have flashing ditch lights either.
did any one count? i realized a few min in i shuda counted but I just liked listening and watching
wow
