These shoe shine videos are really interesting to watch. It looks like there are those who shine the shoe with the laces still in, and those that shine after removing the laces. It would seem to make sense that removing the laces would allow for a more proper shine as one can get to more of the surface area of the shoe, and the worker's material would not get stuck on the laces.

In india it is sometimes frown upon to give tips. Tourist need to be careful and learn the customaries in such countries they visit. For example: giving a tip to a waiter is an insult because servers in india are paid a paycheck unlike in western countries and they look at it as they work for their money and you don't tip. Shoe shining is the exception in india, you should tip them well.
