In the 80's, most of my teachers were women. They were not political, but only cared about fashion and fads. In 5th grade, I had a male teacher, that worshiped Ronald Reagan. Nobody cared. When I got to high school, things got really political. My ecomonics teacher, villified president Regan, said the country, is going to hell (what a prediction), and all president Clinton was going to do was, universal health care. I guess Monica Lewinsky, and troop deployments to the balkans, put a kibosh on that.

Your wrong actually, 90% of teachers are not like that. The fact that this 'piece' is used to encourage a blanket understanding of teachers and the profession is misleading and pandering, as tends to be the case with news personalities across the political spectrum. If anything now that students are returning to school, some parents have actually began to understand the value that a teacher brings. Various states STILL have teacher shortages post 2008 financial crisis (which is a standard cycle in capitalism, they just name it differently each time) and I actually thought that during COVID America would 'value check' itself and reconfigure priorities by paying teachers, police officers, etc., more, but why do that when you can give a basketball player a ten year contract for 230 million! American exceptionalism.

My chemistry teacher was so great that I took chemical engineering after I graduated. She is retired now. She was white and a Catholic. I am an Indian (not Native American) and a Hindu. I never felt discriminated.

Same age as you. I went to Purdue in the 90s. Some of the professors made their thoughts pretty clear but I'd say most (85%) didn't waste our time. The other 15% though were certainly intent on brainwashing and conformity... if you wanted to pass that is. Unsurprisingly that was in humanities electives and similar.

She was disrespectful to everyone from her parents to the kids in class and more. She didn't even show respect for herself.

As a school teacher, I'm disgusted with absolutely everything about this fascist. I am extremely grateful for Fox News. Thank God she's out of a job. It's not impossible to fire a teacher. The administration just has to follow procedure and they're usually too lazy to do it.

I totally agree that there should be mandatory surveillance cameras in every classroom that all parents can access so they know what their children are being taught. Teachers are supposed to teach not preach. Their ideologies whether normal or nuts are not on the curriculum.

Doesn't take any guts for a student to oust their teachers. Any teacher found guilty of punishing or manipulating the student or their grade for any reason due to the student reporting a fault of the teacher is typically loses there job. It's highly encouraged to report. Especially abusive behavior of any kind.

Just because there is a system in place to check people like this before the wreck the lives on others, doesn't mean that people always have the courage or the boldness to put their own personal lives on the line. When this person posted this video, they now had to deal with the consequences and the follow up with that teacher and the school board and the school district. It does take guts to stand up to bullies, and bravo to this kid who did.

The funny thing is this wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. She wasn’t joking but she was speaking in a joking way. Sometimes teachers go off on a tangent and engage in “locker room talk” so to speak. I’ve heard teachers I’m my classes bad talk various politicians this only happened during my high school years, lol. Sometimes they’ll even roast the students. The students most likely egged her on. I guarantee you guys the students didn’t walk away brainwashed but more so amused which is probably what the teacher expected. That wasn’t political science or history class, and that’s normally how it goes, my teachers in classes that have nothing to do with politics will make these off handed comments every once in a while. Lol The only place where I think she truly stepped out of line was calling the parents dumb.

When I was a kid I NEVER knew what my teacher's political views were.

Classroom is where people come to learn how to become citizens and the skills they need for life. Not to be influenced into something they don't understand. Regardless of whether you stand left or right, preaching political views to a child before they have the chance to make one up themselves is indoctrinating them into a sector they'll follow brainlessly.

Back in the old days (1960's & 70's), I attended public schools. Never did a teacher talk politics, gender, race and etc. The teacher's taught Math, Social Studies, History, English and etc. These teachers today are dangerous fanatics.

As an Education major, I 100% agree! I realized teaching wasn't for me and was smart enough to not do it. No one cares that she hates her job. She needs to move on with her life if she has such a problem with it.

What would be the benefit from it? So parents can complain when a teacher is teaching something that they don't agree with? For example, should flat-earth-parents be allowed to complain when their children are taught the earth is a sphere? I don't think so. Wouldn't it in any case not be the benefit of the children that they learn about different perspectives? (keeping the fact vs 'alternative-fact' discussion out of it).

The parents paying those taxes are the ones she was calling stupid. Imagine if one of these kids becomes an opioid addict, or an alcoholic, or starves themselves... do you think they'll respect the boundaries laid down at home by loving parents when the teachers are teaching them that their parents are idiots? This lady doesn't have to feed, clothe, shelter, and protect these kids, she's just destroying your family. Millions of kids now won't even speak to at least one (loving and non-abusive) parent, exactly because of teachers like this.

I can guarantee 100% of the decor is teacher-paid-for. Most school districts supply the basics...furniture, if you're lucky, and probably a laptop for her & possibly Chromebooks for students. Classrooms come bare. I spend upwards of 1k in my classroom every year easily. Not excusing her behavior at all, especially the dumb parents remark. But money spent by teachers for the benefit of students is done by 99% of teachers everywhere.

I graduated high school a few years back and dealt with this same thing. In two of my classes they would spend half an hour showing political cartoons bashing trump and conservative views. I was the only one in my class that would debate my teachers and ask why they’re spending so much class time ranting about their political views. It’s getting out of hand and quite frankly I’m terrified for the future when I send my kids to school.

Even though I agree with her completely, I don’t think it was right for her to talk about politics like this. I think that talking about politics in school is a good thing, but what she did was simply establishing her ideas as objectively correct, that’s not how it should be done. I agree with her ideas (even though I’m not a liberal/democrat), but not with the way she did this. I also agree that if she’d been a conservative she would’ve gotten obliterated by the internet

This is unacceptable, I’m a social studies teacher and when my students ask me my beliefs..I tell them that’s not their business. My job is to get them to think critically about our government on all sides. I want to teach them how to think. Not what to think. I have students on all sides and I always let them express their beliefs and tell me why they believe what they believe. So this is not ok

I hope there are more teachers like you out there; my teachers generally didn't force their political opinions on their students, but also did little to teach critical thinking. My opinion of school is it was always about indoctrination where you just shut up and do what you're told, repeat what the "authority" told you is correct and you will be rewarded positively. Our grades were based more on "participation" (doing copious amounts of homework) than they were based on demonstrating actual knowledge gained or ability to think, this helped average-at-best kids believe they're exponentially more intelligent than they actually are.
