Immigration already stood at 3000 people per year in 1953, rose to 46,800 by 1956 and yet further to 136,400 by 1961. Life continued and the country boomed. The fact that Farage (and so many of the recently departed Tories) has managed to convince people that current levels are unprecedented, unsustainable and unmanageable only goes to show what dishonest spiv he truly is. The choice is clear; maintain a responsible, organized and ethical immigration system in order to further develop the country and it's economy, or wither on a diet of half-truths, lies and fear mongering from populists such as Farage.

The problem is: the UK doesn't build anything. HS2 is just the latest victim. UK doesn't build houses, hospitals, schools, trains, and so on. People are upset because rents are rising, nobody can buy homes, schools and hospitals are full, train is sh**. They blame it on immigrants, because everything is just full of people. Build stuff!! This is not limited to the UK, but also France, Germany.

As the most damaged country in the world in terms of bio-diversity with the potential collapse of eco-systems, it strikes me that the (1) The million + empty properties and (2). Brown field sites first and foremost need to be explored as an option. Just considering the water situation in isolation - these new towns if built, will need to be supported by new sewage systems and plants being modernised to accommodate the increase in effluents. Otherwise, river pollution will continue to be an issue. Yeah on the point of is it such a big deal - a new estate? I think most people just get on with it and accept it, but that still means eco-systems suffer and if you're aware of that and care, that's of some concern.

Green Belt was defined to provide the "lungs" of towns and cities. Why shouldn't the focus be on building houses on so-called "brown field" sites. It has been done on part of Ford's plant a Dagenham. Yes, there are pollution problems with some "brown field" sites but by no means is it a problem with all "brown field" sites. There are also issues with building houses in areas without adequate sewage facilities and to make sure that the new builds do not damage the flood plains.

Yeah I think a lot of people have stretched the term to mean whatever they want it to mean. So they can then pretend that any development at all is an infringement upon 'the green belt'. If a farmer wants to sell their land to a housing developer, then it simply isn't a green belt.

As a teacher I think banning phones is ridiculous; we complain that we don't have technology for the kids and when every kid walks in with the latest technology, we tell them to switch them off. There are so many apps and web sites that kids can use as learning tools but it requires strict rules and discipline so its easier to say, OK turn them off, no leave them out of the building. We adults use our phones for work and instead of teaching children the discipline of mobile phones, we make them more desirable - crazy

We have an aging population, and we need workers to run the economy. We have shortages in all kinds of important professionals, and this will only get worse as our population gets older and moves out of the workforce and becomes reliant on the state. This is why we need immigrants. We need people to run the economy so that the country can function.

I worked in planning in a small Scottish island for 16 yrs 18 yrs ago. When I left I thought there wld not be much new housebuilding going on after that. How wrong I was! New houses everywhere but population not increasing. Youngsters nowadays want their own homes and not live with mum and dad. That has a lot to do with it.

Oh they will. Tories will further divide themselves into oblivion. Farage's vanity, sense of entitlement, massive ego and extremely shady characters in his 5 man band of undesirables will almost certainly result in an implosion of his toxic party. They will make abysmal constituency MPs. Serves Clacton right for voting.

Thanks Existentialism for the Labour result and the immediate tone of professionalism, commitment and service to the nation. HOWEVER, regarding OBrien, on LBC, I still can’t listen to the man. Not one hint of humour or humility. Sarcastic and smug when engaging with callers. There’s something not quite right. As an atheist, maybe it’s my lack of trust in believers or is there a whiff of double standards and hypocrisy, I can’t put my finger on. Anyway Go Sir Kier and your great team!!
