Lovely to see you again. Totally agree with All the light you cannot see. I felt bad that I didn't feel the love for it but feel vindicated that I'm not the only one. Loving the Marie Kondo vibe with the unhaul too 😂

So good to see you again!! I have missed your suggestions and reviews. Funny that you are dumping Natalie Haynes 'Ships' book I just got mine and was planning on starting it tonight!!

Hope you enjoy! 😁
The you ‘no’ and then the Joanna Lumley ‘no’ SENT me, I watched it several times. I didn’t love that Max Porter, love his other stuff but Bacon was not the one. That cover of At Freddie’s was camp fabulouso.

😄 I do feel like I need to read Porter's other books as Bacon was not the best intro...
I love the flashbacks to wrapup content lol.
Unhauling is so difficult for me but something I’m getting better at doing (sort of). Thanks for the inspiration. 😊💙

It's been a long time coming this unhaul so I know how you feel!
I've just unhauled All The Light We Cannot See too, after it being on my shelf since its release. I read 50 pages and just went NOPE. I also live not too far from where Lorna Doone is set! But I've never read it.

Maybe one day I'll give LD the chance it deserves!
Oh I didn't know you had done a buddy read with Kiran, gonna have to go dig that up. You two would make a great pair to watch.

It was basically me going "I've no idea what's going on!" for most of it 😄
I love an unhaul - and when it comes to a maybe pile, I suggest the adage I use at the charity shop, "When in doubt, throw it out."

😂 good advice
Marie Kondo would be proud.

"Lorna flippin Doone!" is a favorite of mine, but I read it years ago. I think I would put it in the "young adult" category today. I loved the description of the landscape, the melodramatic love story and the outrageous antagonist characters, *shudder*. I should re-read it sometime. Just my two-cents...😁

That's interesting. Maybe knowing the tone better would help me out more reading it... thanks!
I liked the alchemist as a teen but as an adult I would think it was fine as well. I keep saying I'm going to get to all the light we cannot see as well and everyone loves it but I don't know lol. Oh dear jurassic park is waiting for me on my shelf unread. Good on you for doing an unhaul!!
@doomantidote

Oh def have a go at jurassic park, it's interesting how different it is from the film
An inspiration. I need to do this. For a couple hundred that I have never read or will never reread or share.

Aha, thank you for the little cameo of me that somehow terrified me 😂 I unhaul quite often, mostly because my books are just assorted piles at the moment. That Max Porter one was quite interesting! I’ve not read that Penelope Fitzgerald one yet! I’m keen to see how it goes.

Yeah sorry about that 😄😄 At Freddie's is interesting, not as fun as I wanted it to be set in a drama school but I'd love to read Offshore at some point

Bewilderment is full of ableism. There is also some in The Overstory, which I felt hard to ignore, but in this one it was just unbearable.

If he just stuck to his nature writing he'd be one of my all time favourites lol
I've actually read All The Lights We Cannot See. You really shouldn't be bothered. And I've read four books by Otessa Moshfegh and I think I'm done with her, I'm not going to read her newest one. MYORAR is her best one in my opinion. I was a bit meh about all the others.

Maybe I'll try Rest at some point then. See what all the fuss was about...
those look so interesting. I read so many storied classics or business books, I don't think I've made room for much new fiction...except Heat 2 but that's practically a movie
@doomantidote

Just had to Google Heat 2, I hardly ever read crime/thriller novels, looks interesting!
I see that Zadie Smith, The Gold Finch and Brick Lane are still on your shelf, interested in what you've decided to keep too. Those ones are still on my TBR. I've read a few of the ones you unhauled and felt a bit luke warm about them, I'm still keeping All the light... on my TBR but it's hanging on by a thread, lol.

I'd def recommend all 3 of those! That copy of All the Light has judged me for about 3 years on my shelf for not reading it hahaha
OMG, you're hilarious 🤣 Thank you 🙏🏼

Absolutely hilarious and I’d unhual several of these as well. Namely the Alchemist and Bewilderment.

It was definitely... a book. 😄
Not quite sure why you didn't want to read All The The Light We Cannot See. It won the Pulitzer Prize and has attracted diverse opinions. Just the type of book to read and give your opinion on surely? I loved it, almost as much as Cloud Cuckoo Land.
@doomantidote

Yeah I'm not sure either. I think someone said it was a bit emotionally manipulative and that stuck with me ever since. Would be funny if I ended up reading it and loved it after all these years 😄

I also loved it! It’s been a few years, so I don’t how my opinion on the book as a whole would hold up on a reread, but I remember being so amazed by the writing in particular - there was one chapter towards the end that I ended up rereading multiple times because I was so in awe of how someone could put something so poetic on a page. There‘s still a single tab in my book for that chapter and I still occasionally go back to it.
you changed your mind about the only one i felt bad seeing go..so i'm good.

“All The Light...” was so over-hyped on Book Tube and elsewhere. It was a big disappointment for me. I enjoyed reading “The Bookshop” by Penelope Fitzgerald. It’s not very long you could probably read it in a day. It’s set in post-war England. A youngish widow sets up a bookstore in a coastal village. It is not universally well-received. [The film adaptation features Bill Nighy portraying one of the principal characters.]

That's good to know, I'll check it out, thanks!
Can you review my novels? I'll send them to you.
all the light we cannot see is a book that, despite how many times i might see it mentioned on booktube or hear it praised, i have 0 interest in and idk why

You know I love you, but next time could you please not start the video unhauling Paulo coelho? 😂 Fun fact: it’s the most translated Brazilian author (yes every international book shop will have all his titles in the Brazilian section) yet in Brazil people don’t value him like that 😅 to say the least (All based in prejudice)
