Andrew Weissmann has been such an excellent legal analyst throughout all of this! Kudos!!!
Todd Blanche should pay attention to Cohen and be taking notes, in a few short years he could be sitting where Cohen is now.

So, I think, will many who are currently defending the failed ex-president - who are demonstrating their loyalty to him by loudly parroting the accusations and threats he (by law, as a defendant in a criminal trial) is not allowed to make against his judge, the judge's family, and those who witness for the prosecution. They too will eventually discover that this man, the failed ex-president, considers loyalty strictly a one-way street. I think just about everyone who is currently on "his" side will discover this sooner or later.

And I did not vote for Trump and have never been a Trumper. The fact that they stroll a disbarred lawyer out to testify against a man that held the highest seat of honor in our country says volumes about the people in charge now.

Remember Michael Cohen is a LAWYER and he knows how to behave in a courtroom, what to expect and how to deal with a direct examination and a cross examination. He is prepared for this and living in the moment also remembering how he was treated back when this all happened. Michael Cohen being the attorney who had to do the work and look at how he was treated. Michael Cohen knows the inside story of all of this and has paid his dues.

I wonder if the media has shifted away from calling this an "election interference" case, because that's exactly what the Trump crowd calls it: election interference, but in a different context. (?)
When you're going to be 100% honest about your crimes, and you feel no need to defend your crimes, then it's difficult to get you frazzled in court. .
Blanche's cross is irrelevant, he is grasping.

That grandstanding crap they do is beyond the pale. They play the role of perpetual commentator. LOOK AT ME ME ME ME ME ME!
I'm not surprised that Cohen is seen as "unflappable" on cross. He was a contract attorney, not a litigator, but he knew what to be ready for going in. He knew the duty of Blanche is to present a vigorous defense, as the law requires him to do. Cohen knows his own past. His "mea culpa" podcast is literally about that. He just has to keep his cool while being poked by the defense, something he was prepared for.

Blanche thinking that bringing Cohen's daughter into it will somehow help to exonerate Trump is mind-boggling. How does that change any of the evidence?
If "once a liar, always a liar" is what the defence is suggesting then how about "once a serial adulterer, fraud and campaign cheat, always a serial adulterer, fraud and campaign cheat"?

I love how Todd Blanche disproves the myth that attorneys never ask questions they don’t already know the answer to. Cohen has surprised him multiple times.
@smdpc
15 күн бұрын
It's not a myth. It's a religious law among successful trial lawyers, with good reason. You can't control the presentation of the right evidence, in a persuasive way, in the right order and have impact, if you don't know whatva witness will say. Successful trial lawyers try never to do it with one exception: If the answer can't hurt your case. Like ; Q: Did you strike your wife or your daughter first? Either way, if the guy answers, it's bad for him. But before I'd ask even that, I'd have eliminated any extraneous possibilities. Trump's lawyers don't know how yo do it. Many lawyers who find themselves in court, don't.
As a court reporter, I kind of like it when there's an attorney in the witness box, and one attorney is questioning another attorney. It's like watching a gun fight in an old western. Very entertaining.
