"I'm 54 years old , i've cycled well over 600,000 miles in my life and my joints, knees, ankles etc feel the same now as they did 30 years ago." I believe the reason for this is because i never cycled through the pain barrier. And i stay off acidic foods most of the time. ( If you feel PAIN! .."REST!)........"The people who tell you to go through that barrier are usually making money out of your suffering! - Drug company's. coaches etc. "Take it easy and come back when you feel better." "Love your videos."

VERY GOOD ADVICE ~ HERE! You should not push yourself too fast/hard ignoring the PAIN. You DO NOT want to do more DAMAGE and heal wrong! Believe ME you will find yourself in your 60’s FACING SURGERY TO REPLACE your ANKLE WITH A *METAL ONE* My Brother Doodled IT on a Napkin explaining what he had done! It made me PUKE 🤮

@@TallicaMan1986 Well when it comes to weight lifting it isn't so simple. If I only would lift weights when I don't feel pain then I would only lift once per week. Muscle sorness isn't a reason to stop training. The majority of the people that do bodybuilding don't overtrain, they don't train hard enough. If you get joint pain while bodybuilding then you are doing something wrong. If you want your muscles to grow then you need to train progessivly and that means you will get muscle sorness and it will be painful but that doesn't mean you have to wait until the pain is gone to train that same muscle again. The important thing is to learn to listen to your body, you need to learn what is just muscle sorness and what is pain in your joints. Also no bodybuilder in this world is able to constantly grow without pushing hard from time to time, without pushing you won't progress. Unless you are on a shitload of roids. So the above comment is either on roids or talking bullshit.

Dean , if you ever go back to Scotland , make sure you don't go back to a routine nine to five job . You could be employed by the Scottish board of tourism filming nice videos of the scenic places of the country ( featuring nala of course ) , or else you could open a bed and breakfast welcoming pets , you are a creative original person . I

I know you may have heard this before but Dean your videos are a fantastic new part of my often dismal days. Disabled and often bed bound I just love that you are out there living a dream come true adventure. I love cats but can't take care of one now so seeing you and Nala just means the world to me. Linda Mon Hi Linda, I have followed the journey from the start. There has been many ups and downs which they have overcome. Dean has a good network of friends to help him. He will be okay. He also had a just giving page which reached £30,000. So all good.

Pain is nature's way of saying "slow down for a second; this needs to heal." You probably could keep cycling if you were sufficiently doped up, but you might accidentally do more damage. Rest. Chill out with your cat. We'll look forward to more cycling with you when you are better. Binge a Netflix show. :-) .

@@lindamon5101 Sometimes you need to take down inflammation and also relieve the pain. Pain sets up a nerve-brain feedback loop that keeps the person from being able to move enough to stimulate blood flow and heal the part. I hardly ever take drugs, but occasionally they're necessary. But I agree, he needs to give it a rest.

Say yes to drugs -- if they help you sleep, very important for healing. And say Yes to being pampered a bit. Also Nala will enjoy being a domestic cat for a while.

@@Historian212 pain meds can be a very slippery slope. I havent had great success. I dont pretend to know what works for everybody. Healing is possible. Know when and where to take a break& rest. Dialog, second opinions, care is illusive these days. Yep i am paranoid bcz sometimes the side effects are worse than the original symptoms. Get real, cats dont care for ppl.

Nala is so sweet and beautiful! I love how she takes in the scenery in her basket with dad. Such an adventurous duo. Get well soon Dean. Take care.

I've been impressed with how many of the countries you've biked through have such nice bike lanes/trails. It makes your journey safer, that's for sure.

The danube has a very popular bike trail along it's entirety through Austria (which is where he's currently riding). Generally, you won't have a bad time finding long distance cycling paths in this part of the world.

Oh man, you are one tough Scottish guy!!! I had a torn ligament in my ankle when I was about 15, they are more painful than a break and the swelling was grotesque. You only showed us only the tiniest fraction of the challenges you had to handle getting to and from the hospital, taking care of Nala until Donna could pick you up, packing up, dealing with the bike, etc. All of that was incredibly difficult and PAINFUL for you to do. Thank God you had a friend somewhat near. Still, you’re a very independent person so that must have been a hard call to make. FORGET about the channel. This is going to take weeks to heal. The internet isn’t going anywhere, and neither are your subscribers!

Take it easy buddy, you have traveled many thousands of Kms safely so you are doing well all things considered. I love cats. Ive always had them my entire life. I have 2 now. I absolutely love how this guys kitty goes everywhere with him. On his bike in the basket is just awesome. That is a very special bond there. I dont see a lot of men that like cats like this guy. I love it!!
