Unexpected encounter between Wolf and Dog shocked the world. What came next is simply incredible!

At one point Nick noticed a silhouette of a black wolf by the lake, which stood there and stared at him.
Nick started to slowly back away, worried that the wolf might attack his dog.
But suddenly, his dog took off and rushed towards the wolf.

According to the story almost all the humans this wolf came into contact with were decent and cared about him. It's so easy to look at the actions of the few among us and apply that judgement to all humanity but it simply isn't the truth. I'm saying this as someone who has spent most of their life despising humans. On a side note I recently watched My Octopus Teacher, it's a beautiful documentary about a man befriending an octopus. I'd def recommend it if you liked this story about Romeo 😁

Was just browsing the comments to see if this had been brought up at all. The Wolf was likely driven out of its pack for being different. Dogs are hyper effectionate as canines go, a trait that is out of place amongst wolves. Being willing to play on first contact with other canines displays this. Had an evolutionary scientist known of this case I'd expect them to have wanted to do a gene or DNA sequence of Romeo. I bet it would have shown a difference to pure Wolf makeup.

What?! No one knows how wolves were domesticated.... but it likely wasn't a "special wolf" lmao. They were probably taken as pups by many ancient peoples. This can be done today. The wolves grow up distant but stay close to home. Native American dogs were almost always chased out of the camps and stayed on the outside in a similar way. They were security and they would be eaten if things got hard for the tribe. So wolves were much more likely to be domesticated for these same reasons rather than to "be friends". That's kinda niaeve. Hunter gathers don't have extra resources to have pets just to love on, but for an animal that provides a security service... that's different.

@@electro13k54 No but what I mean is it wasn't just the poacher, or hunter, or campers, or whoever it was that shot him. Sure they're mostly to blame. But when you see a magnificent wild animal, the worst thing you can do is hang around it and make it comfortable around people like that. Considering the fact that seeing wolves near people is extremely rare, and that they are an apex predator, it wouldn't surprise me if what happened here was just a case of mistaken identity. The person or persons who shot him thought he was a threat. It's still wrong, and of course it still could have been a poacher, which is just vile. But if the wolf hadn't been so tame with people, he likely would have not been seen by a poacher. It's still a lovely thing to see him playing with the dogs. Truly beautiful. As beautiful as seeing the polar bears who come every year to play with that guys huskies. But people, in their quest to make things their own, wanted the wolf to keep coming, and keep getting closer to them. This, I think, is what probably sealed his fate. And that's just horrible in every way. Killed with good intentions really.

The thrill of the hunt is something we have in common with most carnivorous animals. Just because we don't need to, doesn't mean we don't want to. It's like a house cat or a some dog breeds. They don't need to, but they will still hunt, because it's their nature. Nothing wrong with that. I go fishing because I enjoy it. If I lived in the US I probably would hunt too. Though probably not wolves.

@@Seeric85 That you enjoy a thing, that it's a strong instinct or that domesticated animals do it far from makes the act not wrong or okay, though. Using violence against others when angry or wronged makes many people feel good and is a strong primal instinct. The instinct towards sexual violence is arguably even more instinctive and natural to humans and our closest relatives. Hell, we have serial killers exactly because they're embracing the thrill of the hunt. We could go even further into the strong driver to hoard resources all animals have, and that would then okay theft. I'm not trying to provoke, it's just such flawed reasoning. Regarding the very animals you mention - housecats hunting for sport, a particularly strong drive because in the wild they are not in a position where they WOULD be full very often, is a real issue for ecosystems. Dogs are kept on leads to protect wildlife, especially when they have babies. That they want to doesn't justify the damage. Instead humans encourage them to play chase eachother, or use toys, to satisfy that urge. I'm not trying to convert you either, everyone is free to make their own choices. But stand for the choices you make even when they're selfish, don't excuse them.

@@Reicha I understand what you are saying, but there are some flaws in your arguments as well. My position is one of moral relativism, saying that there is no inherent good or bad, but that good and bad is defined by our human perception which is in turn defined by our instincts and experiences. That doesn't mean morals are meaningless though, in fact they are very important for us to function as a social animal. Why do humans and some other animals have empathy? Because it is essential to function as a group, be it a small family unit, a prehistoric tribe or a modern community. This is my basic outlook on morality. Now for me to accept that recreational hunting is morally wrong, I would need to accept that it comes from a place of cruelty and in the overwhelming majority of cases that is simply not true. If a surfer gets killed by a shark, is the shark evil? No, it's just a shark. If a deer gets killed by a human hunter, is the hunter evil? No, the same principle applies, he's just a human. Going into the woods and hunting an animal is the way things are meant to be, especially compared to modern factory farming, where you would have a much easier time of convincing me that the perpetrators of that are morally in the wrong.

Not a fair assessment. Wolves have to be aggressive as they fight to survive. Humans don’t need to be aggressive we have luxuries and don’t need to hunt to survive. Humans are just cruel in nature. Wolves aren’t mean because they are aggressive. Its literally survival of the fittest in their word. Humans have a choice to be murderers and worse and a lot do them choose to do so. It doesn’t mean every human is bad so stop taking it personally. The fact is that humans are destroyers. We use up resources and kill anything in our way. We have already led many creatures to extinction and someday in the future we will use up the resources on this planet and leave it in ruins as well. Obviously I don’t want humans to go extinct... but the reality is if humans never existed the world would be a much better place for the rest of the creatures, and plant life, oceans etc.

What an awesome story. Wolves amaze me every time I hear a story someone shares. It baffles me why people are so afraid of them. They are spiritual animals not he'll hounds. Wolves are recently making a come back in the area where I live and I got excited. They were killed and driven out in the 40's in my area so the fact that they been spotted 25 miles from where I live just a few months ago made me think that maybe there is hope for this world after all. I hope man kind lets the wolves be this time. Spiritually they are very significant and very important to humanity. Look them up as a spirit or animal totem and see what they are. Its very sad the wolf in this video got shot. That wolf probably came as a guide to that man to help him down the right path and some jerk shot him. The man in this video even said this wolf changed his life for the better. That is a perfect example of why man kind should let the wolves do what they were put here by mother earth to do. They do more good than harm.

"What do you think you would feel if you met a wolf? I'd feel fear and panic." Here's a story for y'all. Helping a buddy on a paper route in northern Wisconsin it was about 3:30 and I was out walking delivering papers and an absolutely beautiful grey wolf ran past crossing the road about 20 feet in front of me. About 20 minutes later I was on the whole other side of town and I saw the same wolf running out of the trailer park section and it stopped about 15 feet away from me and looked at me for about 7 seconds then disappeared into the wooded area. There was no fear in my heart. I was as shocked and taken away at the wolf's beauty.
