While baby animals do attract crowds, AZA accredited zoos are not reckless and they won’t breed the animal unless there is an SSP recommendation. However, it doesn’t mean that pregnancy won’t occur. Just like with human birth control, animal birth control isn’t 100% effective and there are occasional unplanned pregnancies like with the siamang baby. At the Cincinnati Zoo, Fiona’s little brother, Fritz, got his name because even though Bibi was on birth control, the male hippo, Tucker, managed to get her pregnant.
