The Raven Queen saying "my Vax'ildan" is so genuine and tender. You can hear that pride for what he's done. You can hear that she's sympathetic for the pain they all feel, but she also knows that it is his time.

I will never get over Marisha reaching over to find Liams hand...

Can we talk about Matthew Mercers music choice real quick. He knows how to pick the right music for the scene

This is such a genuinely heartbreaking and emotional scene but whenever I glance towards Ashley I can't help but crack up, she looks like a super villain making threats and plotting her evil deeds through her monitor and its just delightful

They definitely had a big group hug once the cameras were off, these people spent 5 years going through the emotional wringer together telling the story of Vox Machina and these characters and experiences will stay with them forever

gahhh, I wish marisha didn't get so emotional during these scenes. not because I think it's bad roleplaying or melodramatic or whatever the idiots in the fandom bitch about, but because when I see her start crying I start crying.

If Matt statted her for a fight & she was statted like a god & not in the way that Wizards would normally stat a god for 5E, it’d be over in a round. “Everyone make a DC31 con save - oh? You didn’t make it? You all take 220 nectrotic damage, I rolled low”. If it was some weaker avatar form, then maybe they could do a traditional fight & come out on top, it would be an interesting AU.

@@HeavensOfMetal Unfamiliar with Matt's lore but aren't D&D Gods specifically stopped by the greater god of the setting from directly interfering with mortal stuff? As in, she wouldn't be able to just smite Scanlan and would instead have to operate through her servants, who are actually part of the physical world? It's pretty much why certain Gods in BG3 can't just kill you even though you're in the process of murdering their Chosen and burning their temples.

@@VDA19 I’m not well versed on D&D lore, but the prime reason I imagine for gods not to walk the material plane is that they’ve got more important things going on - outside of a genocide of their mortal followers which would directly cause them to lose power, paying attention to the material plans is small beans in comparison to say the Blood War. They’re also not as strong outside of their homes (but if they’re killed outside their homes - they’ll resurrect at them).

No matter the amount of times I watch this it never gets less emotional. Chills always hit my spine.

Oh dear god I both hope and hope not that they'll ever come that far.. :( But if they do -I really hope that they'll also do the wedding of Vex and Percy so that Vex and Vax can hug once more.

This was the first CR scene I ever watched. I knew nothing but the title of the show, only that my friend liked it. Afterwards, i immediately went back and watched the entire campaign so i could catch up with C2. Moment of destiny.

it's going to be 4 years in one month and yet this scene still brings me to tears no matter how many times i watch it, goddamn, i can't thank these people enough for what they have created and let us share in

This is the first I've seen of Critical role, and I'm crying from the start and I have no idea who these characters are.

I'm currently (re)watching the entire campaign. I'm watching these chucklefucks try to plan how to drop some dwarves into a cavern in the underdark with a Hallucinatory Terrain, and I remembered this scene and couldn't believe how far this story went... some people like C2 & (so far) C3 more, but man they really had magic in this first campaign...

I agree completely. C1 just had something so special. The chemistry between the characters was so raw and real in a way that isn’t quite there for me in the other 2 campaigns. I still love them, but C1 is bar none the best.

such a beautiful end it really shows that you cant save the world gain all that power and get everything you want there had to be something to loose just beautiful Vax's death or I guess transcendence whatever you want to call it will always be one of my favorite moments it was built up for so long and it was just a dark cloud that hung over them all and the fact that they were such a family so good Vox Machina will always hold a special place in my heart

I crave bittersweet endings over happy ones. C1 holds a special place in my heart because of that. Vax made a choice, sacrificed himself for the ones he loved. It's an absolutely gorgeous story and I love it so so much.

This is the first time I have ever played dnd but damn did I fall in love with it immediately because of this

For someone who didn't watch the first campaing (I'm in the 55 in the second), could someone explain to me what is the relationship between Vax and the Raven Queen, who she is and why did this happened? I don't have any problem with spoilers, but be cautious when writing it down here

I guess it's gonna be kinda hard to explain in a safe way -but hopefully most of the people looking already know the stuff.. To make it harder I think it's good not to include any episode numbers etc. but at a couple of points during the season several people in the group have been "killed" and most of the times the other group revive them by either potions, spells or with divine intervention. . . Hopefully this won't show in the normal text and you'll have to "Show more" in order to read the rest. . . Anyhow, at one point they fail to bring Vax back -so he goes into the dark and finds himself in front of a giant white mask. The Raven Queen (wo is the ruler of life and death) gave Vax the option to return to the living and to be her champion. Basically multiclassing into a Cleric of the Raven Queen and rejoin Vox Machina and keep on helping them and complete thie tasks at hand. Vax were told that he were only given the time with in order to compleete their missions but had to return to her side afterwards. If you are watching Season 2 as well (ended now though) there were a easteregg at their animated intro to their song "Your Turn To Roll (kzread.info/dash/bejne/fpx6p7aLdaTcmMY.html)" with an Raven flying away from a stick at 1:06 that reprecents Vax.

Percy: "Do you remember what you told me once?" The Raven Queen, to Percy, once upon a time: "Should you not be careful, you may not be fighting on our side." I'm sure I'm slightly misquoting but that was the gist of it. He was threatening to find a way to kill her. Funnily enough, Campaign 3 is indicating he may soon have one. I really hope Matt takes this into consideration. Surely Vox Machina will get a one shot or few in the Ruidus arc.
