This metal cover is perfect for Undyne!

One of the reasons undyne the undying is my favorite boss in the game is for that music. Battle against a true hero makes you feel powerful and guilty for what you’ve done but you know there is no turning back. But it’s also a song of hope for the monsters as undyne is giving her life to save everyone

It also overthrows what the rest of the game treats as a fundamental truth, the idea that Monster-kin lack that core essence that is Determination, which in my opinion makes this the most important part of Genocide, the shit with Chara is a story unto itself, but in the end its not really world changing, nothing about the paradigm of the world is changed knowing more about the shura known as Chara, but Undyne the Undying breaks the paradigm

@@syrelian I also love that the implication is since Undyne watches so much anime and believes it's all real, she whole-heartedly believes in anime tropes, in this case coming back from certain death with a stronger form. And, yes, this belief is so strong she's able to generate her own Determination, which monsters aren't supposed to be able to do.

I loved spear of justice, but tbh battle against a true hero is so much better to me. It really fits the game though, spear of justice gives off strength and brute force, while spear of justice screams desperation and determination

This made me realize there isn't a "fight honorably" path in Undertale. Like killing, but justified by reason and considered morally right, and you being considered a "knight in shining armor". Damn that would be kinda nice.

it’s almost like UNDERTALE holds a certain view of violence that such a narrative wouldn’t serve. there is but one fight in which your option to give Mercy is denied, and only because the guy you’re fighting 1) doesn’t feel he deserves it and 2) recognizes the strength it has and that he shouldn’t let himself be susceptible to it. it matters in that moment that it’s the one circumstance where violence is mandatory rather than able to be put aside. to have a situation where your violence is justified is to cut the legs out from under the existing routes.

I was hoping you'd go for bonetrousle, but this is still one of my favorites from the game, and also amazingly done. Sonic tears it up on the keys as usual too

An unexpected return with a remix that does it justice. I love it.

I'll have to re-listen to the others at some point to make sure, but my gut reaction is that this is easily your best Undertale song. Amazing job, dude. Edit: But the Earth Refused to Die was heavenly man. I love it so much.

i have seen many undertale covers over the years but this is probably my favorite spear of justice and battle against a true hero one

The first time i played undertale when i knew nothing about it, i went just by the neutral route and the song spear of justice kept in my head for days, it was my first favorite. Then i did genocide route and i heard "battle against a true hero"...and i loved it, it kept in my head for weeks. It was not just the song, the moment when i first faced Undyne the undying, the tension, the sadness, the dufficulty... I felt it was just a perfect moment (even though it took me like 3 days to beat her) And you made this two songs at once. Thanks Jonny, you really are the man.

There's a reason I love your gametal songs extended for 30 minutes. Because the original is so awesome I need to hear it over and over again. Rock on Jonny.

While I agree, Necrozma's Dusk Mane/Dawn Wings theme is even more underrated in my opinion
