Never ever call the police when your fighting with your spouse, unless you feel your life life is in danger, if you do more then likely someone will go to jail, a lawyer once told me the police are not your friend, their job is to put you in jail and their very good at it.

I assume he will work and pay it when he gets out. She is driving a Honda Pilot, a decent car. I assume that he was a decent provider when he was not in detention.

This woman already had children and then she married an undocumented man and had even MORE children. Then she filed a complaint against him because he got drunk and was abusive. What's wrong with this picture? I feel bad for her but she hasn't been the best decision maker!

I was raised by an undocumented single mother. She was independent, ended up buying her own home, and now I’m finishing up graduate school. It’s hard being an undocumented immigrant, and I do empathize with these kids. But I look at this women and see how different she is than my mom. My mom didn’t wait around for a “man” to fix things, she did everything on her own despite being undocumented.

Yup same here. My mom(greencard holder) and dad(citizen) both got a home but my dad only enjoyed 2 years of it till he got a stroke. My mom that didnt speak english, couldnt even write check cause she depended on my dad to take care of everything did it on her own. And till this day 18 years later she still has the home and keeps it beautiful. I was only 14 but did my best to teach her english and to write in english as well.

I understand where you're coming from, believe me, I was the oldest of 5. I didn't have a childhood. But 1. How do you think that makes her younger siblings feel? They're not burdens, they're sentient beings who deserve to not feel like they were mistakes to someone, especially an older sister that they look up to. 2. That mindset also doesn't help anyone. Those children exist and maybe the real problem is that life here in the USA is cruel towards most families. Capitalism is not family friendly. If you're not on the path to get rich, your needs are at the bottom of society's radar. If her father had never been detained and leadership in this country had done their due diligence to stop covid-19, this family would not have been suffering so much for starters. Yeah, my mom should have had less kids, but that's not the reality we live in. My siblings exists and they deserve a good life as much as I do. This family did have problems but they're suffering was only exacerbated by government failure to protect the people who occupy this country. Edited to add: This was not an attack towards you, btw. Well now they can't even have access to abortions in Texas. So if a minor gets pregnant, and her provider is a single mother and there are other children then how is she supposed to get the money for an abortion in another state. She has to have more children. It makes no sense.

Exactly what I was thinking. 25k could have gotten them a decent place, used furniture etc. Mom needs to get to work. The older kids could hv p/t jobs and help with their siblings. Where there is a will there is a way. She certainly came up with a lot of money to get her man. Not that he isn't needed. Kids need a dad too.

@@sharon22669 because in many cases getting full, legal citizenship, even if you already have family living here, will cost thousands of dollars they don't have, and about 24 years. Yes that's right, to get citizenship in America, from Mexico, it will cost more than 2 decades of your life, don't forget that sometimes American Immigration services sometimes misspell you're name, and tell you to start over again, and pay them more money. This is why, this is why people south of the American border come here "illegally" because it's been made nearly impossible for a poor person to do it legally in a timely and affordable fashion. So you maybe now can see why say someone who lives in Mexico, who has a sick relative that needs taking care of in America, might not wait to do it legally, because nobody on earth has that amount of time. Especially if their life or a loved ones life hangs in the balance.

Not only was/is she the cause of her financial instability but on top of that, she is useless in a crisis. Can't do anything without her husband and isn't financially responsible. Women call cops on men all the time when there is no physical contact. They use the police as their own personal intimidation tactic because women are always given the benefit of the doubt in those situations. They aren’t going anywhere. She has way too many kids then she can care for, throwing out $25,000 to get him out of jail when she and her kids live in a seedy motel. And how do they expect to pay back that high interest loan? They won’t. The interest will eat them alive and they will stay in a cycle of poverty. She made a really bad choice borrowing that money.

Just ask the thousands of women killed in domestic violence disputes every year. She was right to call the police - she has 5 kids to raise. She can’t do that dead. The husband has no papers got in a fight with his wife, had him locked up and now the poor children should suffer because of their parents that cannot control themselves. I am sure it did not go much better than this before the pandemic at their house. Then the mother wastes time and money on him daily by phoning him. I hope the children make better decisions.

Very sad, but why keep having more children when you don’t have papers 😟

She got so many kids. When she immigrated to the United States, she already had kids. Then, she got here and instead of learning English and work hard to support her kids, she got a man and had more kids. She is very ignorant, that’s the problem.

I'm just confused this woman couldn't come up with money to care for her children but she could come up with $25,000 to get her husband out of jail? Her husband here illegally and could be detained again? I understand she borrowed the money but she couldn't borrow money for the kids? Just odd that's all.

I am so glad her family's back together. I cried all throughout the video. A family should never have to deal with what they went through especially kids. If I would've been closer and knew about them, I would've offered them a place to stay, as cramped as we would be, it would make it so they wouldn't have to move around. I pray since it's been 4 months, they are doing alot better. Sending lots of love and hugs

Kim Rodriguez yeah idk the details since I wasn't there, but I don't understand why she called either. He wasn't attacking anyone. He was probably drunk cuz he was so stressed..... Under normal circumstances idk what I would do, but given their situation I wouldn't have did that. It must be more to the story.

My mother decided to stay the extra months because she got pregnant with my second sister, lost her visa, and hasn’t been able to go home after 20+ years. She came from interning at a prestigious national bank as a recent graduate and found herself working 12$/hr hour part time jobs in the United States. I’ve personally been wanting to leave the US as a US citizen because I’ve experienced injustice in this country. I’m optimistic about the career, but corporate America is a boundary.

@@arlamuyluna7048 most immigrants are not from Mexico. In my area in the Bay Area most immigrants who are undocumented are from the Philippines, India and other Asian countries. But, most Mexicans here are permanent resident and most of the Mexican people were here 4 generations before the civil rights movement so, I assume that 95% are American born.

I agree with many of the comments being made. He and she had the opportunity to legally get citizenship, but they did not, and i find this to be a big problem. Many people come here, but they don't want to go through the necessary steps to legally stay here, but want all of the benefits. If you think so little of your life, and don't take the necessary steps to secure citizenship legally, you should not be entitled to any benefits, at all. Also, they are not wearing masks, especially since they were exposed to someone who was Covid 19 positive. They're riding around infecting everyone, to boot, with no social distancing on top of everything else. No wonder we can't get this thing under control, because of irresponsible people like her. I’m sorry, but you’re very wrong. It’s not as easy as doing all the necessary steps and you magically get your residency or citizenship. Most of the time, these people get denied and they have to pay thousands of thousands to a lawyer to get a mere permit to work.

i asked people why poor folks have big big families. They have nothing else to look forward to but sex. On top of that contraception is not used. Perhaps its a Catholic thing. A combination of poor judgment, poor planning, not delaying gratification, lack of financial education and opportunities make for such a cocktail as what is shown in the documentary above. The poor blacks, poorest of the poor of all races tend to make the same decisions.

i cant imagine how they will be able to afford to pay all these debt they have cumulated. unfortunately, seems like the best option for them might be to go back to their home country. they just need to start over seems like.

Jorge, when I witnesses how someone from another country, with no legal status received full benefits and our veterans, who risked their lives, were turned away; I start to feel like something is just not right. This is why we have so many wanting to be in the US, but I also feel that if a person is unable to contribute in some way, but to deplete our economy, they need to go back.

Not necessarily. SSI also pays out to elderly immigrants who became citizens who never worked nor paid into the system who arrived too late in their life. Let’s not forget about elderly mothers who never worked because they were stay at home moms back in the day. Or elderly disabled who never worked due to mental or physical issues.

As a parent you can't relay on the social worker to get you $ for the hotel, she needs to get hey behind together and get a job. She is just causing stress on her children. Poorest town in the country is Kiryas Joel in upstate NY. Everyone has 10-20 kids, all on welfare. It is run by religious extremists who speak only Yiddish in the home. They are Americans but choose not to teach English to their kids. Children read religious texts all day and don't learn basic math or science. This educational neglect prevents people from having skills to leave the group. These are born and raised... Americans.

You can't be kicked out for non payment, however you can if you're breaking other lease agreements. 3 people who lived near me made that mistake, used their unemployment to party , didn't pay, and eventually 2 teens were shot in that mess. Yep they got evicted. Not for non payment though.

She didn't make rent in January. Therefore, she lost her place prior to COVID. Further, if she had gotten evicted no landlords are going to rent to her now.

PBS you need to help them into a hotel for an extended amount of time in exchange for you letting them tell they story.

This woman's impulsivity is the cause of the family's problems and will be the ultimate downfall of them.

In as much as my heart filled with joy to see them back to gather as a family, I'm kinda worried sick about the money that she borrows from the loan shark and how she's gonna repay that huge sum of money. Plus, kinda wonder what kind of job she and her husband would be able to get a hold of as they are both illegal immigrants. This is kinda crazy.

Sadly if the father has a drinking problem, not even this consequence will change things. His addiction, or tendency towards violent habits needs to be dealt with before they lose everything again, maybe even their kids. She may be co-dependant and this could be a reality check for her. These dysfuctions may cause the children to have issues of their own, whether they live in Central America or not, it will go where ever they go. Hopefully they can get involved in a good 12 step program. Hitting bottom will drive people to get help. I recommend Celebrate Recovery because it has helped me with co-dependancy, there are many places to get help. I hope they find one.

If poverty taught me anything, never lose your home. Obtaining housing is the hardest thing to get even through social services. Even if you might lose your car or lose out on food those are more easily obtainable than a roof over your head. Food banks exist public transportation exists.

They are under so much stress. I feel for this family.

It was not her responsibility to get her husband out of jail. She should’ve have left him there to do his time. She’s taking care of the kids and she got a roof over their heads. That’s all she should be concerned with. Not going into debt to get her abuser out of jail. Ugh!

@Giselle Perez While you can survive on the margins without it, all of the better opportunities in the US are in English. The medical exam, the bar exam, the CPA exam are all in English as well as the college courses that prepare you for those opportunities are only in English.

My heart breaks for the children.

Mother are the greatest gift on earth. Strong, tough, and will do anything for their family. Much love to all the strong mothers. Keep ur head up

I was raised in a family of 18 women. Your statement is not true at all. I've been stepdad to three kids for 21 years. I separated from their mother 12 years ago. they are all adults now and we have a daily relationship. They have almost nothing to do with their mother. Many mothers are useless crap to their children and are best serving a sideline or nonexistent roll.

Did you know that you can come into the USA legally and then become illegal after you over stay your visa? Some people are not as fortunate and educated to find out how to renew their visas or to become a citizen due to culture/language barriers. They don’t know how to navigate the internet nor have emails. No you don’t have to sneak into the USA in the middle of the night nor climb walls to get into the US. You can get a visa and walk right in LEGALLY. You act as if immigrants are the only people breaking the law. That is another stereotype misconception.

It said 15K from relatives, 10K from a high interest loan. However, she must have had to put up some collateral to the loan company. Perhaps it was a title loan on a vehicle or two.

We are two educated Americans with 2 children and all we can do is pay the bills at this point. We have worked our whole lives. I started out with no Mother. She took her own life when I was 10. You act as if Americans don't suffer!!! We struggle just like anyone else in this world. This is why Trump won!!!! And I do not like Trump at all. wake up!!!! If our congress lives as socialists with EVERYTHING taken care of and you know the list, Congress has to realize THEY work for us. I am so sick of all their political hypocrisy!!!!

And our whole government system is corrupted, and the only thing that will fix it is, downsizing and replacing all of the dug in, old white men mentality. Some people are saying you missed the point. I don't think you missed the point at all. Am a middle class American and the system is dragging us down. If my daughter went to the hospital for 10 days like her daughter did am 100% positive we'd be paying a 10K or more medical bill even with our medical insurance that we pay 1,500 every month to have. Who is paying for her daughters 10 day hospital stay?

Meanwhile millions of American families are living on the streets in tents, cars and RV’s and in homeless shelters. Wonder why they can’t get a social worker to put them up in a free hotel? 🤔🤔🤔

Her husband has been in America since he was 11. What was the reason for him not to become a citizen while he was herte for over 20 years? Who pays for the 10 day hospital stay for the 17 year old? If my daughter even with our medical insurance went to the hospital for 10 days I know I'd be paying a 10,000 or more medical bill. Who paid the medical bills for the birth of her 3 or more children she had in America?

we are all responsible for our own actions and achievements in life. while some create success others just drift in life waiting for external subsidy. i am responsible for my own life if i did not get financial stability i should not blame others. you can fit anywhere in the world if you are a hard worker and think responsibly. i have not brought more kids to this life simply because I can't afford it. others should do the same. we can't expect society to pick up the bill.

Im sorry but she sort of “deserves” all of this. She has way too many kids, when she can barely feed herself and she THINKS the police in the United States of America would just give a “scare” no honey, this isn’t Honduras. The judicial system is incredibly harsh and expensive. She’s an idiot, now she’s $25,000 in debt has a bunch of mouths to feed and no place to stay.... I don’t think she DESERVES it. But she brought all this on herself. Best of luck tho. I hope she never makes that mistake again.

Things are bad enough for regular folks born here , using the cops to scare a spouse is pretty dumb and irresponsible . She mentions in the video leave it up to God and learn to live with the situation. That's the biggest problem. All this could have been avoided.

This is because of the wrong choices she made. Now the kids have to suffer due to their bad choices . I wish the kids well and good education. We all go through stuff, at least she has a car, her kids have phones etc. Don't blame it on being undocumented, it's the choice you make, we all fall and get up back, that's life. I wouldn't be surprised if the car was put up for collateral for the high interest loan. if that's the case she won't have it much longer.

Everyday I am thankful my parents were responsible and only decided to have 2 children after immigrating from Mexico. We didn’t have a lot but always enough. If you are coming here you are already accepting that sacrifices have to be made. Why add more children to an already volatile situation.

Being undocumented he shouldn't be engaging in any behavior that could get him in that position. She called the cops knowing he was undocumented and then all this crying. They both should do better for their kids. I have no sympathy because this was a mess of their own making.

Frontline focused on the abusive husband’s immigration status (he should be deported) instead of focusing on the plight of innocent children brought up by a submissive, abused woman who goes into further debt to release this jerk from detention. She needs help (as in a battered women shelter) and so do the poor children. And she needs to be introduced to contraception! No more kids!

There is a visa for people that faces domestic violence, if there is a police report, she should be able to get it for herself and her kids. Not sure why they did not mentioned it or what is the whole story.

That's a very difficult situation. Hope everything went well.

I hope the gentleman is Covid free and some semblance of peace and normalcy come back to this family 🕊

I hope that all the US Citizens that lose their homes from foreclosure will be subsidized to live in hotels or temporary homes as well.

Well I’m sure they need the car. It can be shelter if things get worse. Those phone could of been free on a plan and with online school they need that laptop. Such stupid assumptions leading to useless suggestions.

@@daisygarcia6253 The car could get her and her kids a few months of rent paid, plus the security. It is better to have a real roof over your head and the heads of your kids than a car roof. The smart phones could get her some money for groceries and some of the gas and electric bill paid. This is normal. Living in a car with kids and smartphones is not normal and not wise.

I'm sorry but America is a nation that from the start of it, has had immigrants that have came to this land for a better life, you wouldn't have the things you have if your ancestors wouldn't have immigrated here in the first place. This land was also stolen from colonizers, so don't think you have any legal right to be here as well.

Having children you can’t afford is why there is no empathy for these undocumented. No empathy for family separation either.

This story is sad and I feel sorry for her and her kids especially her daughter. Kinda seems like the parents have made horrible decisions. How could she be here so long and think that she could call the cops and they not arrest him? Surprised they didn’t arrest her as well. That $25k will come back to haunt them. I don’t think I would have done that

Oh God be glorious in His Faithful dealings with this Family and all others in similar situations, may grant them all their heart desires and keep His wonderful promises in their lives. Amen.!! My 2 cents

I do not feel sorry for them at all, they made these choices. They alone have caused this stress on their children- no one else but them. These parents are hurting their children alone - they are not immigrants they are illegally living in this country. “They” are breaking the law, “they” have placed their children in a terrible situation- no one has done this to them “they” have done this to their children based on their choices!!!!! They are not doing right for their children.

Sad to watch the kids moving around so much, but happy that they get to be with their father now.
