Undoctored: Adam Kay In Conversation With Kit de Waal

Be part of the conversation and see more of our unmissable ThinkIns at torto.se/3c5i5vm
Scribbled in secret after endless days, sleepless nights and missed weekends, Adam Kay’s This is Going to Hurt provided a no-holds-barred account of his time on the NHS front line. It was the publishing phenomenon of the century, read by many millions, loved by at least fifty of them, and adapted into a major TV series. But it was only part of the story. In his latest book, ‘Undoctored’ Adam explores what happens when a doctor hangs up his scrubs, but medicine refuses to let go of him.
Together with his friend and author, Kit de Waal, Adam will speak to Tortoise about medical education, what happens when you open old wounds and examine present day scars, and what happens when the doctor becomes the patient.

Love how Adam talks about doctors and their training and recruitment.I think he is right in that doctors are expected to be superhuman and maybe some of them buy into that too and it appeals to egos like any professional expertise that has so much status and rightly so in many ways. They do are a hard job and have heavy responsibilities to bear. There needs to be alot more psychosocial care and training both within how dotors and healthcare workers are trained and also an understanding of the impact that such a stressful emotionally draining job has on those who look after us. There are many professions or jobs where I believe we are not often getting the right people for the job and the police force is definitely another one of them !!
