Prediction: Since it's a vacuum there is no air in there, or very little air, so there will be very little if any bubbles from the chamber. I think the water pressure since it's so much higher than air pressure will push the glass inwards more and there will be very little glass escaping the implosion. On the high speed camera you might even see small bubbles of water vapor for a fraction of a second because of the fast and extreme changes in pressure. Definitely cant wait to see how Wrong I am, Great Video you Two

Exactly that - the large shovel just made an open air-path. You can easily see the air filling the chamber before it implodes.

I got here searching youtube for underwater vacuum collapse. Do a thought experiment with the vacuum chamber deep in the ocean and the chamber walls shattering to bits but with the compressibility/elasticity of water at zero and water not boiling in a vacuum. I think the water would fall in from the sides making the vacuum bubble wider and at the same time rain down from the top scattering the vacuum bubble into smaller vacuum bubbles that will stabilize maybe the size of water drops that will float to the surface slowly.
Here because of the Titan
After the Titan implosion I was looking for a good video about what happen in an implosion, this is a great video. Thank you!
Wow. That was actually more badass than I thought. I prefer this over cartoons on a Sunday morning lol. Thanks for making these and have a good day.
That is the coolest slo-mo video I’ve ever seen. The one from inside the tank is awesome!
i dont know why, but i just wanna give them both a really big hug. they seem like such nice people!!!
When the shovel went into the water it pulled some air down with it. You can see the air sucking into the void and making bubbles. I would really enjoy seeing this experiment again with a different breaking mechanism so that no air is sucked into the vacuum. Thanks for the great show!
The word aquarium is a word I've always taken for granted, or maybe just heard my whole life. Your pronunciation is blowing my mind. It is a rium, for aqua. Versus, like, a rium for terra. Mind is fully exploded. I truly love you guys. Please never change.

OceanGate Titan?
For you water tank, if you drill holes for the corners, then cut the plastic to those holes, there is less chance of a slit forming. This is why windows and doors on ships all have round corners ... stress cracks cannot form as there are no corners.
And that's why no bodies will be recovered
Just love the high speed camera .

Ah.... Now I see why renting a studio with a drain in the floor was such a good idea! The skate park at the end reminds me of when I tried to cross between pistes on snowboard, and didn't realise how soft and deep the snow was between them... Happy old new year!
this was better than pretty good especially the extra content that was pretty pretty goud
Nice video ! But this experiment is not dangerous like the one you have implode in air. Could you try breaking it without pushing air toward the jar? (When the shovel entered the water, some air followed) Maybe use a Ice pick and a hammer to smash the jar? So only water would get suck in?
yeah, so the pressure differential here is around 30 psi. (approx -14.7 in the vessel, +14.7 around it) imagine 6000 psi. say that bottle has an external area of 100 square inches, there would be 3000 pounds of force in total on it in this case. if it was roughly 12 000 ft down and 6000 psi on it there would be 6 MILLION pounds of force on this tiny little bottle. imagine how much force was on that submercible that was at least 100 times larger than the bottle.

It's a shame the shovel created a tunnel for the air to occupy the void when it broke the glass. You guys are so nice. Please to the experiment again with another way to break the glass without allowing outside air to come in. Thank you
Nice
I think future experiments of this type would benefit of a way to break the chamber that does not itself disturb the water much, maybe a pointed heavy object tied to a cord just long enough that when dropped it does not go in the water more than just beyond the internal top dome of the chamber.
How much water did your pump suck in? It was running when you hit it.
I thought the aquarium might fail after one of you mentioned it. What I didn't expect was for it to start failing before the experiment!
Since you have a decent vacuum pump.... I wonder what it would look like to view the triple point of water. Boiling freezing and liquid at the same time. It may be difficult to get the right temp and vacuum, but it may be worth it

You could try mounting a pneumatic cylinder in the bottom of the aquarium, then use it to break the vacuum chamber. Then you don't have any external issues such as knocking the vacuum chamber sideways or introducing air like you did with the shovel. You should be able to achieve a much better video of the implosion that way. For extra effect, you could also use a chamber made of tinted glass so that the implosion is even more visible against the water.
I'm a glazier, the best way and safest way to break glass is with a centerpunch. Not sure if it makes sense but it translates to "keskipiste". If you have to seal glass or plexiglass to plastic I would use polyurethane caulk Great video!
This is what the news outlets should be showing to convey what happened to the OceanGate Titan.
Laari if you use a clean glass aquarium and use vegetable oil instead of water the vacuum chamber will go completely invisible, but just leave enough of the dome out of the oil to strike, and then if you hit it with an automatic centre punch or maybe even a high powered air rifle from above, the breaking vacuum chamber will instantly become visible again and should provide a fantastic slow mo footage.
In the summer you'll have to try this again in the lake
Okay I lost my shit at finnish skate park :D Please more of that :D

What's the brand of shovel you got there? It looks like it can scoop the heavy stuff.
