This can't work toriel in undertale is selfish here my reasons why. 1 . When she left her husband who also is suffering from loss of their child. She didn't even comfort him as his spouse. 2. Torial also abandoned her kingdom as Queen. As Queen she supposed to lead and help her people even in her own time of grief. Instead of staying to be a good role model she just left. 3. When we first meet Torial in the ruins she was being selfish because SHE WANTS to keep us there to be safe but frisk wants to go home. Despite Frisk protest Torial tries to keep Frisk. I know it's hard but she needs to stop thinking about herself and think about others.

While I do think Toriel isn't the best, we still aren't sure when Toriel left. As far as we know Toriel could have conforted and discussed with Asgore for months before going to the ruins, maybe only after Asgore killed the first child to fall after Chara, we aren't sure what happened, so we can't say much about it. And I'll argue that Toriel keeping Frisk in the ruins isn't selfish, it is just cruel to let a 9 year old kid go into a snowy place to get frostbite, a swamp place to drown and a fire place to fall and burn, that's not forgetting all the monsters that would attack the 9 year old kid, a royal guard, the leader included, a human eratication machine, war veterans, mercenaries, and so much more. Not only that, is not like Toriel wasn't letting Frisk go home, even if Frisk got out of the ruins they would still be trapped in the underground, only way to leave being killing Asgore, a gigant war veteran with 80 atk snd def that can dodge and cast fireballs, Toriel said she was stupid to letting Frisk have a chance to die or kill Asgore, something she was trying to stop from the start. What she is guilty of, is attacking Frisk instead of just holding them and putting them in a room while exploding the cealing or something, then letting them leave without even saying about the dangers or giving them a coat

Toriel said she saw it happen so there's reason to believe she tried to convince Asgore not to kill the first human, but then he did so then she ran away. It's not her duty to comfort Asgore since she also lost her kids. Asgore most likely knew where Toriel was but didn't go to comfort her either She also didn't want war and thought that it would be best to not engage in an unnecessary war that could kill monsters so by protecting the humans, shes protecting the monsters doing something they may regret later on. Plus if she had revolted after Asgore already gave the speech about his plan (that the monsters were all for) she would've probably been boo'd off stage or ignored since everyone was already set on Asgore's plan. She didn't agree to wanting to kill humans (especially since they had adopted Chara who showed them all humans arent bad) so she isnt obligated to stay and support that. She does, in fact, step up in the neutral endings to give the monsters hope and to instate a new policy to help monsterkind. Toriel tried telling us that if we leave theres a high chance we'd die (which many people died at least once throughout the game and it would've been permanent if not for the ability to reset) so she was only looking out for us. The only way to get back to the surface is to kill Asgore but she didn't want anyone to have to die (and she stops the battle between us and Asgore. Technically she doesn't think about just herself since she is thinking about our safety and doesnt want more monsters to die and maybe some humans if war were to break out

She was also suffering from the loss of their child. What did Asgore do to help her? He let his rage overflow and declared war. This decision implied killing likely innocent human childs like their deceased child best friend and endangering monsters even more than they are because the war will continue on the surface. This declaration also has a good side by bringing hope to his people but Toriel will for pacifism is not a bad thing because there were clearly other ways like enforcing control, neutralising humans after their fall, doing a case by case judgment for each of them or financing research on the barrier. Toriel leaving her throne is probably still a bad move but Asgore reaction isn't totally commendable either. Her authority was questioned and ridiculised because Asgore takes a decision without consulting her first. That is if she had as a queen an important role in decisions which isn't even sure. To show her opposition she leaves probably hoping this big move will make Asgore realize his mistakes. It finally regrets but couldn't go back because it would mean taking the new basis of monsters hopes and dream away. He wouldn't have been a problem if he listened to Toriel in the first place. She probably tried to convince him multiples times. They were in the same situation and they didn't agree on how things should be done, that's all. Sincerely, - An Asgore Fan
