Undertale may have a story loved by fans - but does it actually make sense? In a way... not really! There's one too many plot holes - aspects of the story that contradict each other, or just don't make sense. This video explores the worst examples that completely break the story, among various minor nitpicks! Still, it's only for fun; none of these things ruin the game in my opinion.
Underlab explores the secrets and obscurities of UNDERTALE, that game everyone seems obsessed with. There's a lot of said secrets and obscurities. Like, a lot. It also showcases and explains the lore and story of the game in an attempt to explain, clarify, and perhaps even discover completely new stuff...

Out of curiosity, I do wonder. If sans is depressed, is aware of the timelines and resets, and knows that killing frisk a thousand times won't prevent anything, then why does he bother fighting? He knows that no matter the outcomes, frisk might just reset and everything. The only three outcomes in this story is: - Frisk kills all monsters, and resets, eventually. - Frisk may/may not kill any monsters, but the monsters will still be trapped underground, and frisk will reset. - Frisk befriends all monsters, and frees them from the underground, but nontheless will reset. Regardless, the happiness, hopefulness, or hopelessness in every scenario will be a repeating cycle, never ending. His brother will always die and live, and no path will ever be set in stone. So why does he bother fighting? Is it his chance at satisfaction? Something of a game to entertain himself in the eternal cycles?

Plot hole 1: humans can USE magic, but only monsters can EXPRESS themselves through magic. Plot hole 2: the game never outright says Flowey can't feel empathy. It's only Flowey himself that THINKS that. Plot hole fix: Flowey was wrong. Plot hole 3: Sans has no memory across timelines but it's hinted he has previous knowledge of timelines. He knows about resets even on a pacifist timeline -i headcannon Sans as being from OneShot- (Edit 3 years later: I no longer have this headcannon, it's silly and irrelevant to my post so please ignore it.) Also Sans was only PRETENDING to sleep so Undyne would stop to yell at him, giving you more time to get away. Plot hole 4: ok that is odd 0_0 Plot hole 6: just cause a monster is big doesn't mean they have a lot of physical Matter, so even large Monsters can't hold much determination. Plot hole 7: this one really bugs me, maybe Frisk never left. But Sans says it's "been a while" Either it's a plot hole, Alphys was wrong or...Frisk is dead and Sans is leaving a message that will never be received. Man that's dark Plot hole 8: the barrier is a sphere but there is only one place in the Underground where it can be seen so that location is simply called "the barrier" remember how lousy Asgore is at names?

And if you know anything about the disorder, you’d know that psychopaths are perfectly capable of mimicking behaviors and thinking for themselves. They simply lack certain feelings like regret, empathy, grieving, and love. His character makes perfect logical sense when considering these factors. Psychopaths believe that they are the only right one, that the world should come to them because they deserve it. I know this because my father is one.

Plothole 2 (Flowey): Empathy is what makes it hard to complete a Genocide Run (well, that, and the ridiculously tough bosses). Yet the Genocide Run shows a side of most of the characters that you'd never see outside of it. Just look at how many people do Genocide Runs, despite being really attached to the characters they're brutally murdering. Now take away that hesitation... Plothole 3 (Sans): When Sans talks in the Genocide path about timelines ending, he's NOT just talking about when you destroy the world at the end of the Genocide Run. Resetting after (or during) any other run also "ends" the timeline for that run. Even if you do a True Pacifist Run, and get the very best possible ending, Sans still can get too excited about it because he knows you could still do a True Reset at any time, and wipe it all out... and, in fact, you may have done so a thousand times already. This is not a plothole, and is, in my mind, one of the traits that makes him the most sympathetic. Plothole 5 (Monster Matter): A book in the Librarby specifically states that, while human bodies are mostly made of water, monster bodies are mostly made of magic. This is why monsters dissolve into dust when they die-- that's all the physical matter they had to start with, it was simply held together by magic. Why is that harder to swallow than their magic energy bullets? Plothole 6 (Neutral Run Escape): Let's not forget that Frisk is pulled into Flowey's world for the Truly Final Boss Fight of the Neutral Run. It's entirely possible that, when (and IF) Frisk returned from there, they returned on the other side of the barrier. Flowey had six human souls at that point, so it wouldn't have been difficult for him to get past the barrier, and it's not unreasonable to suppose he could have held the door for Frisk, so to speak. Plothole 7 (Barrier Where?): I don't recall exactly where, but it's stated that it IS possible to enter the barrier, just not to escape. Whatever entrance Frisk came in through, they passed through part of the barrier on their way in, and would be unable to pass back through it if they tried to leave that way. If the barrier is all around, in a sphere, as you speculate, then it makes sense the monsters wouldn't bother trying to leave through one of the more difficult to reach parts of that sphere. Thus, the location referred to as "The Barrier" could simply be the easiest part of the barrier to reach, and the part that the monsters would naturally want to leave through. "The Barrier" is a lot easier to say than "the part of the barrier located at Asgore's castle".

That is odd, I doubt Determination alone would make it possible, the _only_ possible reason I could give is that he has Asriel's essence inside of him, which came from his dust, which is made up of magic, perhaps the Determination made it possible for him to channel the magic from Asriel's essence?

It is odd that it never gets explained, but, it seems like in-game it gets written-off as Determination. I think some of this either we're not supposed to think about too hard or were supposed to fill in the blanks ourselves.

  • @LifeIsAHighwayIAmACarCrash

    @LifeIsAHighwayIAmACarCrash

    6 жыл бұрын

IamDragonFury If determination were the case, perhaps that's simply because Flowey ISN'T human, and maybe that somehow makes up for the lack of a soul, but it's unlikely. If enough determination can give any living being magic, then the game should be a lot easier for the player to get through, but it could just be the power if being able to reset and/ or cheat death. Like Undyne, for example. In which case, that explains why Frisk was unable to die at all in the fight with Asriel, but I think that's obvious enough. As we've seen, determination has a very different effect on different species, so that might just be it. Like you said, it's probably most likely that some of Asriel's magic absorbed into the flower, I just wonder if there are other possibilities.

Several monster also make it clear that they don't know you are human (like Monster Kid at first, or the Bunny shopkeeper in the Pacifist end) and most monsters don't even act like they are attacking you. Like how Froggit doesn't know what's going on or why it's where it is, or Tsunderplane just acts dismissive and tsundere at you, or how Valkin think's it's helping you. Monsters are just expressing themselves at you without meaning to hurt you or knowing you are human. Most of them beside some few obvious exceptions like most of the bosses are not locking to capture you or even hurt you.

I'm also annoyed that Underlab made a big mistake when addressing Flowey's character at 3:02. He states that Flowey "can't feel empathy" (empathy being defined as "the ability to understand and share the feelings of another") and continues to explain how clearly capable Flowey is of understanding and expressing feelings (which Flowey indeed DOES seems to do throughout the game). *_COMPASSION._* Not empathy. Compassion is the word Flowey uses when referring to the feeling they had lost upon becoming a flower. "My compassion had disappeared!" And its definition is considerably different (compassion defined as "sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others"). Is there a point in the story where Flowey expressed that? If so, please tell me.

It appears that Chara's body was mummified after they died. This is likely the case with the other humans. Stripping the body and thoroughly cleaning it are an essential part of most mummification rituals (actually it is common with most embalming rituals in general). The clothes and items were then likely distributed for utilitarian purposes and passed from monster to monster until they ended up where they did. As for the organs that are usually removed during most mummification rituals, well... remember that can of MTT brand human substitute on Mettaton's cooking show? They must of had a "reference" to imitate, meaning some monster(s) likely ate or at least tasted some of those organs and liked them enough to generate a demand big enough to research and manufacture the substitute.

You do realise with plothole 2, that humans actually have a condition like flowey's. It is real psycopathy, the lack of empathy. A psycopath can literally not feel empathy. this shows that being able to think logically does not ensure that you have empathy.

While some of these don't have in game confirmation, there's easy explanations that don't require massive theories or assumptions Humans and magic: humans themselves can't use magic, but can wield equipment that can (a staff or the artifact). Or, humans normally can't, but upon absorbing a soul, they can use the magic that monster had. Both could also explain the removed mechanic of spells Flowey's empathy: actually, Flowey's actions perfectly represent a lack of empathy. I believe the common term is either psychopathy or sociopathy, I always mix them up. It can be a born issue or arise after brain damage. But the person affected feels no empathy. They can logic out why it's wrong to kill and can use that to blend in with society, but they can't actually understand it emotionally. There's actually thought tests to study it, the most common being to imagine there is a train with two possible paths, decided by a lever. The current path has a crowd of 100 people in the way and it will kill them all, but pulling the lever will send it down tracks with only one person in the way. Logically, it makes sense to pull the lever and sacrifice one life to save a hundred, and even normal people might pull the lever. But change the scenario a bit. Instead of pulling a lever, you need to kill the conductor and stop the train. Logically you're still sacrificing a life to save 100, but now you're directly killing. Many people may be able to manage if in such a situation, but someone with that condition wouldn't hesitate. This condition is common among serial killers, and has included motives like wondering why people can't return after death or trying to recreate a previous incident to learn the original killer's motives. The movie Battle Royale has a character with this problem, caused by head trauma, and his past is shown to have him gouge someone's eye out just to study it up close. Flowey killing just to see what will happen or because he sees no other way perfectly fits. No plothole there Sans' laziness: he knows there's a timeline that ends with nothing, but he doesn't know what leads up to that end. In a pacifist run, it could also be that he knows that you'll help and doesn't interfere in case he'd prevent that. The bigger question is why he interferes in a genocide run, but even on a chaotic neutral run (kill everything you come across but don't grind to the point of nothing appearing) he doesn't fight you. He never attacks you for killing his brother except on a genocide run. However, this too could potentially be explained by him not knowing how the worst timeline occurs, just that it exists, since he may fear his retaliation is what leads to it, only worrying about it when there's nobody left anyway. Naked kids?: pretty sure the kids were wearing more than was found. I mean, a glove and a bandana? A tutu and ballet shoes? The only one with majority of their body covered would be the apron and frying pan. They just dropped a couple things on their journeys. Who knows, could have even led to their downfalls, losing their defense and weaponry. Amalgamates: I'm pretty sure it says monsters are made up of mostly magic. That's why they become dust when they die. Escaping the barrier: ok, yeah, a bit of a plothole. It is, however, never confirmed Frisk escaped, just that they're somewhere else. The underground is suggested to be much larger than we see, so maybe they're somewhere in the underground still. Alternatively, nobody is actually certain what it takes and it is merely assumed a human soul alone isn't enough. I mean, the monsters wouldn't know since they can't escape, Chara may not have even tried, and the other humans before Frisk all died before reaching they could try. The barrier itself: I swear the game says right in it that the barrier is one way, you can enter but can't leave. Alternatively, see the second explanation above regarding the requirements being uncertain

My guess on how undyne used determination is that it only melts monsters when they would have died, but otherwise it stays inactive, or less active. The amalgamates only survived from determination, they melted. Undyne had some determination without melting(except on neutral I guess... maybe she just barely didn't have enough determination to revive herself?)... but because the damage you did, she started to melt. To summerise, determination seems to only melt monsters if they almost die.

*Swedish Attack Helicopter* I don't think the joke Toby Fox was making there was about plot-holes. What prompts the fabric-patching text joke is the first text asking whether you want to FIGHT the dog or not. If you press yes, the dialogue box tells you that you can't. Seemingly because the fabric, and its holes, need to be patched. Only then can you, maybe, fight the dog. I'm confident that the joke is referring to the possibility of a GAME patch. As in patches video games receive to stop players from exploiting unfair game mechanics that were left unintentionally or to *include NEW content available to the players.* In other words, Toby is most likely dangling the potential of an Annoying Dog fight in our faces.

The Last Corridor is right before the Throne Room and the Barrier. The Barrier covers the mouth of the cave that the monsters were forced into when the humans sealed them in the mountain. Some amount of sunlight must shine through the Barrier and into the castle, which lights the corridor and grows Asgore's flowers. Remember, there's no naturally-growing flowers anywhere else in the Underground except the Throne Room and the first area of the game: below the open hole Frisk fell into, where sunlight can also enter.

I don't know, I think some of these can be explained, some of them just feel like overthinking, I think humans in Undertale just lost, or willingly chose to forgo, the ability to use magic over time. The items left by the fallen humans could've been dropped or knocked off during battle then picked up by other monsters. What I'm more curious about it is if the human with the Light Blue Soul died in the ruins, how did the body make it to Asgore? Unless the human died somewhere else and their items were taken into the ruins by another monster. As for why they can all fit Frisk, I think that alludes to Frisk being of Ambiguous age, child or not, we don't know if they're a small child or an adolescent, but, you don't have to be a certain age to wear a bow, a hat, or use a gun and I don't recall it ever saying that all the clothes fit Frisk _perfectly_ . Just because Flowey lacks empathy doesn't mean he can't think at all, I mean, the Determination he was injected with must come into play somewhere there. Perhaps Flowey doesn't entirely understand himself or the monsters don't entirely understand Determination. Flowey is imbued with the essence of a child monster, who is probably very confused in his new state, he doesn't quite understand what's happened to him, other than he lacks a Soul, which keeps him from feeling certain things, the powers from the Determination don't help any, since the ability to SAVE, RESET, and LOAD are not something the monsters would be aware of. As for why the monsters never just climbed up out of the Underground, well, that entrance is in the ruins, which has long been shut away, It's gotta be pretty high up and I doubt the monsters would be able to scale it. Even if they could fly, they probably couldn't or just wouldn't risk it as there was no guarantee they'd make it to the top, safety most likely would be an issue. Also, Asgore more than likely wouldn't allow it. Regardless of the reason, I don't think it would be as easy as you make it out to be for them to just climb up out of the Underground.

Perhaps, just think that we shouldn't assume that all the items are where the humans died, especially when some of the items are separated quite a ways from each other. Some people think that the items being so far away from the castle indicate that none of the humans before Frisk made it to Asgore, but, I don't think that's the case, some might not have, but, at least or two had to have faced him, because Undyne says "No human has made it past Asgore." she didn't say, "None of them have made it to Asgore." Also, when you SAVE everyone during Asriel's fight, if the player uses 'Stare' on Asgore it says "He remembers the gaze of humans past" (or something like that).

Great video, plot holes are always interesting to me. A plot hole that has bothered me for god knows how long, is the following: After killing Undyne in the Genocide Route, Undyne says that Alphys was watching the fight and would evacuate everyone if something went wrong. Lo' and behold, she does and all the passive monsters are saved. But if you decide to spare MK before fighting Undyne and it switches to a Neutral Route, why is Alphys there, all happy to greet you and whatnot? Why does she say "Oh, I was in the bathroom" when that clearly couldn't have been the case. This is one that just really annoys me.

I think she just goes to bathroom for this small amount of time after Undyne's battle. Actually, she actually says in one of her messages on their Underground Facebook or smh (idk what it was called) that she missed Frisk's fight with Undyne so she doesnt lie about it. Or at least in Pacifist Route. As for why it happens after turning Genocide Route into Neutral, it's probably just Toby's mistake. There are many Neutral Route possibilities and having them all makes sense would be hard. It's also because Alphys is the character that has different opinion on you if you killed Undyne or not. My theory is that she evacuates all monsters if you kill Undyne, but when you dont do that, she's okay with you and countinues her Pacifist Route strategy where she joins you as your sidekick. So in the end she either lies about going to bathroom to get on your good side or doesn't actually see the fight.

Deniz-usta Gedik, I mean, Alphys doesn't watch their fight on neutral or pacifist because she doesn't have any reason to do it and probably went to the bathroom. The fact that she went to the bathroom EXACTLY when Undyne was fighting us is convenient for the plot but not a plot hole. Papyrus waiting is easy to explain - nobody told him. x) The only possibly plot hole situation is the one you described in your first comment. But let's start with the fact that genocide run requirements are kinda plot hole-ish? You have to kill every monster to make Undyne go Undying and Sans to get mad at you. If you let 1 monster live, they're like "Oh, you killed every monster in the Underground BUT ONE? Well, I guess that was self-defense/accident/basically-not-your-fault and I'm gonna let you live". Nothing strange with that, right? xD

Remember in room 101, when Winston thought his back would break, his spinal fluid going all over, and then O'Brien says "You are afraid," said O'Brien, watching his face, "that in another moment something is going to break. Your especial fear is that it will be your backbone. You have a vivid mental picture of the vertebrae snapping apart and the spinal fluid dripping out of them. That is what you are thinking, is it not, Winston?" He repeated *EXACTLY* what Winston was thinking, yet he's not a mind reader. This is pretty much Sans.

I have a different interpretation of your plot hole 3 (Sans). When he talks about several realities, I think he means that you can play the game many times. Even more, the game can be played by millions of players. So there are millions of Sans'es. Millions of Sans'es need to do the same thing (like meeting Frisk, or building puzzles with Papyrus) over and over. So he doesn't care about doing his job right, because he knows that the game will be played over and over again (independent of the ending). the fact that Sans is also present in Deltarune, which is a completely different world according to Toby Fox, and he seems to know the character and even brought "Grillby's" into that Deltarune world, makes me think that he is some kind of time traveler

My theories/explanations on the plot holes: Plot hole 5? (the one about why humans can't hold magic) : Frisk never absorbed a boss monster's soul, maybe that is the secret of human magic? The crystals of the underground that contain it? Or maybe the children between monsters and humans (demi humans in fantasy? in undertale?). Plot hole 2 before explanation: There is the plot hole of why the monsters can't absorb frisk's soul, but instead it breaks and loads the last save. Chara who is a red soul was absorbed by a monster... My theory on that is that Monsters can only absorb a soul if it is compatible with them: A monster needs to be kind to absorb kindness or have the lack of it, i don't know. Plot hole 2 explanation :But that also would explain why the 6 souls helped frisk in the omega flowey battle. Flowey at that point had no kindness, no perseveration (just resetting), no bravery, no patience, no integrity. Lack of justice making it unfair... etc. Flowey is not souless, it lacks the traits that the souls have...(?) There is not an official soul for fear, sadness, or joy. And red souls aren't confirmed to be a determination soul. Plot hole 4 (Dark, and dusty) : It is told in the game that human bodies can be preserved because of the determination in the soul. If a soul is extracted, then that means that the body becames dust like a monster? But what about the coffings...? It is the rest of the phyisical matter? If they faded like dust, maybe that was the reason that their belongings were left there. The monster who contained the soul only took their soul and not their body, leaving the items there. The bodies, then were put in coffins later? Does the soul's determination + dust make an almalgamate after the soul is absorbed? :/ What if the bodies are wandering?! Chara appears melted in the genocide run and there is no way that frisk could have whiped the entire underground by themselves. There is a lot of background to show that the underground is bigger than the playable parts. Also, the encounters with low level monsters are odd. There is no "overworld sprite" only a flickering heart, so frisk can control one of these "bodies"? Im just a UT teorizer, making AUs to solve this. lol. (actually i did kinda make an AU but its incomplete).

For the neutral ending plot hole, they also state that the souls disappear. We can then assume that Frisk used them rather than Asgore's soul. We already know that the souls were on Frisk's side and helped defeat Photoshop Flowey. As for monsters being made of magic, it makes complete sense. Since humans can't use it without some form of artifact, monsters use themselves as an artifact. They have magic as a life source rather than determination. Plus, Undyne and Papyrus only survive after death, even for short amounts of time. Neither of them have enough physical matter, by extension determination, to completely reverse time, just to resist death.

The explanation to the first one might be that humans can use items enchanted by monsters, however can't use magic by themselves. This if true would add a depressing element to the barrier as the tools used to seal the monsters underground by the humans would have originally been created by the monsters in the first place, and probably given to humans as gifts when the two races were still in peace before the war

I seem to remember somewhere the game mentions that it would take a ton of monster souls to equal one human soul, so Flowey/Asriel uses all the monster souls with his own to open the barrier. That would also (kinda) explain why Flowey/Asriel turns back into a flower and doesn't go with you.

    1. It is stated that humans can't express themselves through magic, not that they are completely unable to use it. On top of that, chances are they were using magic through objects. 2. Flowey can't feel, but he has the will to live and is capable of thinking logically. He is also bored and has been in this state for insane amount of time - we have no idea how many times did he reset. Could be hundreds, thousands of years of effective resets for all we know. He sees Frisk's appearance as something NEW, therefore interesting and more importantly, something overriding his ability to save. Interestingly, it appears that other humans could override him, as he never mentions them in that way, if I remember correctly. If anything, Flowey sees Frisk as means to END, one way, or another. 3. Sans has no memory of timelines, but is at least aware of them. He at least keeps sense of familiarity of past events that we only ever see mentioned by Boss Monsters and Papyrus - which in itself is an interesting thing. He is lazy and lacks motivation knowing that he is stuck behind the barrier and that his actions against humans or other beings able to save. The best he could ever do is delaying action and forcing resets until the one resetting would do what he wanted. Also - in aborted genocide, when we kill all the key monsters, but leave the normal ones, he mentions something along the line: "That is what happens when people like me don't act". Seems like his fatalism got better of him. 4. Belongings of other humans. Items from human world fall to the underground all the time. Chances are that original humans discarded their items along their way. Frisk can do the same after all - they are no glued to you. 5. We simply have not enough data here. Size alone does not mean physical matter. We not know if magic has weight, density and other properties similar to matter. 6. This is a possible plothole. Hard to say - but Flowey temporarily absorbed plenty of human souls and he could have transported Frisk beyond the barrier during fight, even unknowingly. We know that it takes Human and Boss Monster soul to move through the barrier, Boss Monster and 7 Human Souls to shatter it, be we simply do not know if multiple souls could allow travel for another human. 7. Chances are that the whole thing is covered by some sort of illusion on top of the barrier. It is not even clear how the barrier looks from the other side, if it looks at all. Also, it is quite clear that there are several entry points. Home, Waterfall an New Home at least. So ti is likely that the barrier is: invisible and covers the entire mountain.

Theory why they are underground: 1- Toriel and Asgore species are anthropomorphic goats. 2- Satan is an anthropomorphic goat. 3- Monsters lived in America. 4- Spain and the holy inquisition found America. 5- They tought monsters where "satanic" and started a war. 6- Humans won and use monsters magic to create a giant barrier. 7- Odviously Monsters weren't satanic because God does not exist in Undertale (a god in undertale is a monster with the power of 7 human souls) 8- Humans destroyed all Monsters civilization signs to not let any "Satanic" remain. 9- How there's no evidnece that Monsters did exist, over the centuris humanity were forgetting about them. 10- The only remains of Monster kind is just a town leyend around Mtt.Ebott.

Some of these things don’t make any sense Also WHAT!!? They STRIP THEM!!? So what you’re saying is that the children came into the underground wearing nothing but hats, tutus and shoes, glasses, bandannas and gloves, and aprons!!? That’s completely stupid!!!! They most likely dropped them!!!! And before anyone talks about the tutu, there’d still be a leotard. Honestly these “theories” or videos are getting stupider. This is just as thoughtless as the “who hired everyone to kill frisk” video that completely ignores the fact that Mettaton says himself that he did it!!!! Also sorry, none of these make any sense…

The biggest plot hole comes at the end of neutral route. Frisk crosses the barrier with Asgore’s soul, but why don’t they just get 6 of their friends and break the barrier? It makes no sense as to why they decide they need to forget about the events of the game instead of freeing the monsters.

  • @macklaws8991

    @macklaws8991

Ik this comment Is old but still. As for the plot hole of frisk getting 6 of their friends, this would not work. As a human can only cross the barrier without using some sort of magic. this means that they would not be able to do anything to the barrier. This would also be impossible to do, as frisk cannot reset beyond the point of falling into the underground, as they gain the power to reset upon entering the underground, meaning no matter how much they reset, they will always start back in the ruins.

Underlab I have a small theory for you here that may or may not help a future video. It’s said that humans can’t use magic, and monsters can’t have determination. But what about the mages at the start of the game, or even Undyne? I think a possible theory could be that some rare humans are born with the reverse affect, and the same with monsters, which could explain why there are Undyne the Undying, and the very few other monsters with determination. Or, for another theory, the humans and monsters could be loosely related, and could easily have random genes that trigger determination or magic. Hope this helps! Also the secret may have been kept because then each side has a backup plan in case humans rebelled against monsterkind, or monsters got out of control. Thanks! :)

@Underlab I don't have the skill to draw it but I have an map in my head where you start half way up a mountain above the snow layer - with each area you proceed DOWN not in or up until you meet the base of the "inactive volcanoe" under the earth. The elevators then take you UP to the TOP of the mountain where the main entrance to the cave is. within the underground there are several places where light shows through - this means there is a hole in the mountain that allows things to fall in. Meaning Not All of the humans fell in where Frisk did. Only Chara fell in there.... The weather is a cycle of ice and water being thrown into the lava at the base of the volcanoe - rising to the top where they form clouds and eventually snow - then being fed back down again...

After defeating Photoshop Flowey (Name is in the CREDITS OF THE GAME), we are placed on the other side of the Barrier. Notice how the battle takes place in what Flowey calls “My World,” meaning that it is a completely separate world from the rest of the underground, meaning that there is no Barrier. Also note that just before the battle commences, you walk forward, past where the Barrier is in the underground, meaning that the battle is on the other side of the Barrier, and you are placed past it after the battle.
