I have a 2016 A3 2.0T as a loaner right now because my FRS is in for a big service. I gotta say you're right. The thing feels like you're cornering in a sailboat. Though the torque around town is pretty fun. But the pedal response is piss poor. Nothing, nothing, nothing, WOT.

Things to do to get rid of understeer: add some toe out, front or rear. soften your front suspension or stiffen your rear. lower your front suspension or raise your rear. add some front camber and caster. learn to drive around it. Play with swaybar changes or adjustments, and also strut bracing. Different cars have different results when adding or removing a brace, experiment! So many people I know say, i dont want to buy 'this' car because it understeers. You can always change how your car handles, give it a go.

@@BlatentlyFakeName Audis are either FWD or AWD front biased (rarely rear) which is why they understeer more often than a RWD. It doesn't have to be an 86, any FWD/FBAWD will encounter understeer more often than RWD. Like he said, you can stiffen the rear to reduce understeer because the rear will comply more with the front

It really isn't that bad, they just require a different technique to control it. The Mk 2's so-called "snap" oversteer is really just liftoff oversteer (which can happen in literally every car, by the way, including FWD), but due to the car's reduced moment of inertia (which is a GOOD thing if you want it to turn!) it tends to oversteer more sharply if you just snap off the throttle. If you ease off rather than snap off and give yourself a chance to feel what is happening it becomes much easier to catch and hold that oversteer

This is like watching Bill Nye the Science guy. I came to this channel just to see a few reviews of a car I was thinking of buying, but stayed because of Shows like this slowly making me into a bigger car enthusiast. And safer driver

These episodes are so entertaining yet extremely informative I decided to try to get my wife to watch them. Oddly enough she really enjoys them and has actually become a far better driver due to the detailed, yet subtly quick, explanation of the dynamics of how vehicles act on the road and why. I have also learned a lot from this.

Last time I understeered going too fast up a wide-radius left U-turn bridge in 2nd gear, and I let go of the gas too suddenly. Et Voila! We have lift-off (oversteer). The end result: a near-spin four-wheel slide that made my car kiss the leftside wall perpendicularly.

Randy Pobst is my spirit animal!

Reminds me a TON of Bill Nye episodes... And that is a GREAT thing. Love the episodes!

Glad to hear of those tips to load up the front. Not something I knew as of yet. Thanks for that. I'll definitely add that to my driving. :) Although it can be dangerous too. Seen someone load up the front by accident on the Nurb the other day, from braking too late .. and yea it didn't go too well.

dudes like the bill nye of car driver knowledge. I love getting down to his segment on every review. He knows the thrill of a good car and knows the pains of a bad one. all while being able to drive like a BEAST.

Living in Canada and driving in the snow helps a lot to learn to control understeer. That E brake helps all the time unless your going way too fast.
