Understanding VOR Navigation - MzeroA Flight Training

2 WEEK GROUND SCHOOL TRIAL LINK - www.m0a.com/trial/
Anyone else struggle with VOR navigation? I remember being days away from my private pilot checkride and still not fully understanding proper VOR tracking and intercepting procedures.
You can be assured that VOR intercept and tracking WILL be on your private pilot checkride so please invest the time to fully understand it.

    Awesome training. I'm signed up for a 'cram for the written test' elsewhere but find myself watching your vids for a real understanding of the topics. I'll be trying out your two week free trial and I suspect moving on to at least your basic level for a few months to get me through the written

    Just what I needed, thanks! I'm taking "some other brand" of online ground school, which for the most part is fine, but they didn't do a great job of explaining this. Or, sometimes it's just easier to get a couple of different views on the same subject, before it sinks in.

    I've always found VORs to be much easier to use in the air than to explain on the ground. :-) My introduction to VOR navigation started with my instructor telling me from the right seat "VORs are really easy to use. Here's how..."

    Pretty much. :-) Almost every dual flight after that included "intercept and fly such-and-such radial from such-and-such VOR". We have two in the area to play with (YPK, HUH).

    Think as the CDI as a circle in four parts. To know your heading and which way to turn your OBS knob first look at the flags. If the flag it "TO" you know that your heading is gonna be on top of the CDI. If the flag is "FROM" you know that your heading is gonna be on the bottom of the CDI. Then look at your needle. If the needle is to the right and you have the "TO" flag you know that your heading is going to be on the top right in order to center it. If the needle is to the left and you have the "FROM" flag you know that your heading is going to be on the bottom left in order to center it. Hope that sounds clear enough.

    Not sure if this has been answered (newbie here). Is the reason for maneuvering into position to intercept the VOR vs doing the "cheat" posted in the vid, providing a better alignment to the runway for landing?

    Interesting that there are planned shutdowns of VORs in the U.S., I use them all the time along with GPS. I use the VORs for verification that I am clear of certain restricted and prohibited areas here in Texas.

    Flying a radial inbound is actually flying a course. We fly radials outbound. Radials radiate....that is the best way to remember.

    Flying to VORs is one thing by centering the needle, those damn FAA 'where is the plane' HSI questions are a real PAIN.

    Thanks for the explanation! Very helpful demo. I was going to try your trial, but that link/website doesn't seem to work quite right. It only shows a small portion of the page in the center of the page (looks like an that doesn't have enough height), so the whole page isn't viewable or usable. :/

    dope flight sim. I much prefer the 3 monitors to VR or TrackIR. both of which aren't anything close to being in a real airplane. If flying was like using trackIR i'd have already quit.

    Do you think you would offer single courses

  • @MzeroAFlightTraining

    @MzeroAFlightTraining

    5 жыл бұрын

    The only standalone single course we offer is called "The FAA Written Test Prep Bootcamp" (passmywritten.com) geared towards just that which is passing the knowledge test. Other than that if it's the monthly charge of the ground school that you don't care for we do offer a lifetime membership for one fee you get all the courses for life.
