What an absolutely wonderful article. I’ve had a very long running infection and they are still not sure where it is. This has helped me hugely.

Thank you Tom - I'm no medical person but I can understand your explanations clearly enough and the relationships between the various UTI causes and treatments. I'm a male in late 50s who has spent 2 months with a UTI. It has cleared up once for a week and I was overjoyed and then it returned and I was depressed as hell. Currently on Pivmecillinam Hydrochloride 400mg 3 times a day for a week. Having to present a sample at end of course when - hopefully - the UTI will have cleared up, and have blood tests. Never had a UTI in my life before this July so finding it shocking how hard it is to treat and praying it does not become chronic. I have to say that my symptoms are mild now in comparison to when it started - weakness, fuzzy head, cloudy urine - so can I send all my love and sympathy to all the women who suffer from this much more than us men (hey sympathy to the men as well of course sorry). It is a terribly debilitating disease to deal with but your video allowed me to see "the monster" clearly at last and feel confident and hopeful that it can be overcome, and if not, they I can live with it. Will you please do a Zero to Finals on Erythromelalgia "EM", and Celiac "CD"? It took me 55 years to get a diagnosis for them both. We are told that Erythromelalgia is rare but it is not; it makes the feet hurt, itch, burn, sweat, swell and turn red and often it affects many other body parts like ears hands, face, lips, legs. Stress, like being embarrassed can make the face and ears burn. Walking makes feet so painful it is hard to walk; toes swell and hot temperature are miserable. And it is often accompanied with Raynauds. CD should be tested on everyone starting at 3 yrs. Many of us have lived with the symptoms so long, we think they are normal. My symptoms were anorexia, anxiety, depression, and slow to learn. Please, new medical folks, test everyone.

It's good to know when to give the necessary antibiotic with regards to each particular gestational period. Tom , if i may concerning sepsis, by which method it can be confirmed or ruled in. By doing blood culture for example ? Or by the aid of clinical signs ? And one more thing antibiotics are given during 7 days for pregnant women, what about the other non pregnant cases ?

Thanks! Regarding sepsis, there is not single test to rule it in or out, it is based on the clinical features (e.g., fever, tachycardia, raised respiratory rate, signs of infection and abnormal blood markers). At some point I will make a video on sepsis. I would have liked to include the duration for non-pregnant patients in this video but unfortunately missed those. As a general guide, uncomplicated cases in female patients have 3 days, whereas male patients and patients with catheters have 7 days. More in the link in the description.

Thankyou for this video. Can you pls do a video on ureaplasma and urealyticum infection? I have had uti's for a long time and only about a year ago a docter tested me for these 2 bacteria and i was positive. Its a urine pcr and or vaginal swab test.

I had pee slightly red coloured that was so slight , for 2 days but after drinking water for 3-4 days it get normal but yesterday it occur again, it's slightly red ( like someone add drop of red colour in water ) like that ... but if I don't drink water for 4 hrs again red pee started.... It's seems to be like a uti 😔 , I am really sad 😭 wanna cry 😭

Everyone having an UTI, go straight to the doctor, ask a good doctor for help, explain all the symptoms because it is really important. It can damage your kidney and so on. I had an urine infection a month ago and didn’t take care of it. Well… with the time this infection went through my kidney and infected my only left kidney. I had terrible pains, nausea, body aches, fever and I stayed like that for two days cause I didn’t know what it was, the pain was unbearable so I went straight to the hospital and here I am, it’s been 6 days here, taking antibiotics 3 times in 24h and I got a midline done today so they can continue for one month to give me antibiotics (at my place). Doctors said if I hadn’t gone at the right time, I might have lost my kidney. SO don’t take a lot of time but check quickly with a doctor!!!! It’s really important!!!!!!

I have been getting Uti's for yrs and yrs! Only about a yr ago finally a doctor found the cause and was positive for ureaplasma parvum infection and there's another which I also had called ureaplasma urealyticum. It's a urine and or vaginal swab test.

UTIs may not be easy to diagnose in children, especially babies and infants. Parents and caregivers should see a doctor when there are any concerns.

I didn't have any painful pee but chills n feverish made me realize it was uti 😢

I am suffering from this for years I hate it tomorrow again going to hospital I hope this time doctor will give memedicine it will not come again

Reading comments here scares me, i only feel burnint sensation when i peed and maybe little after, no chills or fever, frequent urination too but i do drink lots of eater. Hopefully its nothing seruous but i will have to see a Doctor.

Hello sir... We can use the nitroimidazoles like matronidazole instead of using nitrofurantoin Because matronidazole are prone to anaerobic bacteria... And especially the cause of uti is ecoli( this a anaerobic bacteria)

As a 31-year-old male, this is very useful information to know down the road later on in life Edit: hopefully this doesn’t happen to me in my 30s. Or I don’t know if it’s ever happened to people in their 30s, unless it’s just people in their 50s 60s if someone can tell me
