Understanding the Thermocline (How to find bass and baitfish)

Спорт

I was cranking the other day on the lake and ran across the perfect example of how understanding the thermocline will help you catch a lot more bass. In this video I'll show you how you can see the thermocline on your electronics and where the bass and the bait relate to it. Not only that I show you how you can catch fish related to it and when, where and how to look for it. One of funnest videos I've ever been able to make for you guys. I hope you enjoy it.

    Hello Sir. I want to thank you so much for this video. ❤️ Your video information save the day for me today. I pay close attention to details on the thermocline as you about it. I won 2nd place today and big fish a 5.04 pounder😊 which landed me more money than 1st place. You're spot that there are no fish below that line. I fish only areas above the line and started getting bites. This was a weath of knowledge. Guys learn this information it will help you fish productive waters. Thank you again. 😊

    I’m new to your channel and thanks for this great video! You kept it simple by demonstrating the actual thermocline and targeting cast over the thermocline. Nice examples and the fishing was an absolute plus! I can’t wait to see the video on “Dialing in graphs being over rated”. I’m starting to see that as well.

    Awesome video Scott! I have been seeing the thermocline, but did not spend a lot of time graphing 🤦🏼‍♂️ I will spend time checking this out next trip. About the images we see, I’m glad to hear they are not reality! I can rarely get the award winning image. Summer is a crazy time, I found a little pocket (about 200 yds by 200 yds) with a small opening 12’ deep with bait everywhere. The thermocline is 15’ to 18’ There was a lot of activity, but couldn’t hook up. I changed to a 3/4 ounce Megabass double willow Spinnerbait and slow rolled on the bottom and caught 2 good ones. Your tip will help me next time out 👍👍👍

    cool video Todd... you should try to get some under water footage of that thermocline...I spent a little time scuba diving, and saw a Thermocline or two.., they can look as definitive as any other structure or similar to where two bodies of water meet... and the temperature difference is just like putting your hand in ice water, its almost immediate, not gradual. it makes sense if bass hover above a very cold thermocline which explains why they didnt hit a worm on the bottom

Just wondering what you would suggest trying to get some of the schools of fish going . Keep up the great work , it’s so nice having someone I can relate to putting out great information stuff . Thanks

    This year has been different bro. Everything about it. Usually here in southeast Kansas will have the spring thermal Klein early summer thermocline and then we'll have our early fall thermocline and turnover. But this year on our legs we've almost had a permanent thermocline just finally did we have our lakes clean up like in the last 2 weeks I was out today and we didn't have a thermocline present that was noticeable that being said most of this year on my homework we had a thermocline at right around 15 ft and it varied between 10 and 15 and for the most part our fish have been shallow all year long even on the hottest days in the summer the fish were pretty shallow not where they usually are. No like you said in the video we had a lot of flooding in late summer which perpetuated that thermocline. Good s*** bro. Also what is that cranking rod you got in your hand i'm a cranking rod fanatic I buy him even when I don't need them LOL.

    Todd when you are fishing the thermocline are you looking for where the thermocline depth meets the bottom and crank to keep bottom contact or if just say you are in 20 ft of water and the thermocline is 15 ft just cranking along the 15 ft range with no bottom contact?

    Awesome video man. Quick question on that last fish catch… How much do you take into consideration on how a bass is hooked? With those fish slightly suspended and how that fish was hooked under the jaw, do you think it was because the crankbait was below the fish and possible a slightly shallower running crankbait would have caught them “better”? Or do you think the color could have been more of a player for it being hooked under the jaw? And do you find that pausing a crankbait when they are slightly suspended like that gets more bites compared to when they are bellied to the bottom?

  • @toddcastledinefishing5924

    @toddcastledinefishing5924

    Nope, I caught them every cast for awhile some they inhale it others they get hooked like that it’s just fishing.

    Thanks Todd.. so you weren't digging a ditch with that crankbait but cranking a few feet above bottom through the stumps and brush? You always here that if you're not deflecting off the bottom then you're wasting your time with a crankbait. Can you clarify?

    Don’t spread that around lol I live on a deep lake and about %40 of my cranking fish there is nothing to bang off . So I put the bang on the bait myself speed up , slow down , stop and go fast , stop and go slow to fast . I try anything to trigger the fish most of the time it’s just a stop that gets them . Not that you wanted my opinion I just thought it was a great question and it’s true that say it so much grinding and deflection it will start making you thank that’s the only way but it’s not .

    What? What they're showing us isn't reality? You lost me brother- I don't get what you mean by that. I realize they're not showing us reality in real time- they can't really but- is that what you meant? Well- I guess they can- that's what live scope does I hear but- never had it or played with it. In fact I don't have anything- my brother does- I just work here, so to speak. I have a kayak, a paddle, some rods and tackle, and the overwhelming need to fish. My brother has a 80 thousand+ dollar Ranger and I fish probably about ten times more than he does. He takes me out on his big boat w/all the bells and whistles and I show him how to catch fish without them- because I don't know how to use them. But hey, neither does he and they're his- he payed for them. By the way- if anyone is wondering about the moniker- Stoney isn't actually quiet dead yet- but I'm in the process of murdering him. He had some bad habits, as per his name- that were getting in the way of fishing.
