Yep! I know the hospital discharge process so well! I've been through it, more times than I could count. I have a trach, and I'm on a ventilator, and the last hospital stay in ICU in Lexington KY after a series of seizures, I was so ready to go home! I remember that night sitting there waiting for my antibiotics to finish, and those have to go in over three hours, but I just kept thinking how badly I wanted to go home! That hospital stay was a hard one. I don't remember quite a bit of it, because I was heavily sedated on Propofol, but I remember when I woke up, I was confused, and was not happy that I couldn't remember so much of it. I was not myself at all! I was told that I was trying to pull out the IVs and stuff, and pulled the pilot balloon off of my trach, which is a BIG NO NO!!! I was VERY confused! Finally, when we got home about midnight on the 3rd, I was VERY VERY HAPPY!

It’s the hospital goal to push people out as fast as possible. It’s usually premature and results in an unsafe discharge and high rate of rapid re-hospitalizations.
