    this area is not taught well in medical school at least for me so appreciate this video, it has a massive psychosocial impact on the patient so it's important to have a comprehensive understanding of treatments

    I wonder why it has a high psycho social effect, its just a poo bag and you can hide it, not like everyone can see it. I have to get one soon. I guess it just comes down to if the patient cares about it personally or cares what other people will think. Personally for me i dont care, ill just be happy to be able to go to the bathroom.

    I began my operating theatre department as a qualified nurse, I began as a scrub nurse working my way round all the different specialities, trauma orthopaedic was my favourite. I scrubbed up for several surgeries that resulted in Stomas. The most complicated for me was a Urostomy, it was also such an amazing piece of surgery, without this surgery being available the patient would have died. My advice to any medical student is if you can get into the operating theatre and see anatomy as it is. It does come as a shock when your used to drawings in text books as I found as a nurse. You can learn much from experienced nurses. I ended up doing a university course and became an anaesthetic nurse. I spent 6 years as ENT anaesthetic nurse. It's not just tonsils and adenoids. there is a lot of head and neck surgery, laser work, total laryngetomy's. Anaesthetic wise it's only senior registrars and Consultants allowed to anaesthetise patients as there is often a great skill required for airway management. It's also a great place to learn to cannulate a patient and develop airway skills. I hope this has been of help to the med students.

    I have an end ileostomy as my Crohns disease caused a lot of damage to the area. Prior to surgery I had a fistula from small bowel to bladder and another from my ileum to sigmoid colon and a perforation joining to my abdomen. The surgeon repaired the sigmoid colon and decided that an end was appropriate to give my large bowel a chance to heal. From what I understand for the fistula to the Sigmoid colon a section of the terminal ileum was joined to the large bowel. My large bowel is completely intact and appears to be functioning just fine after 7 months as I recently passed a small amount of stool following a enema test for reversal which was super dried out.

  • @matthew90276

    @matthew90276

    2 жыл бұрын

    The surgeon drew a picture and from I understand he left the large bowel(caecum) literally right next to where my ileostomy comes to the surface. I'm not sure if it was an end loop I just know that both just need to be joined up again and its a fairly routine operation when its finally done.

    I had a Urostomy from the age of 9 until I was 21, Then I got a surgery to better my life some because these bags leak often, Especially if you're fit & have a 6 pack.They get annoying if you wanna swim.. For Young adults & adults in general, Relationships can be difficult to find. Your sex life isn't as enjoyable because of leaks & your consistently worried about it leaking. Self-conscious worrying & insecurities can run wild. "since 2001" Going on 23 years now, All I have to do is put a catheter in my stomach to drain the Urine. It does not leak, It don't hurt & it makes life much easier. It does come with some complications but its totally worth it. This road is not easy. I've had 23 major surgeries on my stomach since birth. I'm 43 now. I'm very experienced & have vas knowledge with this medical condition. so if anyone has question, Feel free to respond to this, I can provide answers plus give some tips & tricks to help those bags stay on longer.

I had surgery 7 years ago and ended up with an ileostomy and a mucous fistula, both permanent, so have to wear 2 stoma bags, one under the other. It's just mucous from the bowel that goes into the mucous fistula bag.
