Abstract: In stochastic thermodynamics, the irreversibility of a process is captured by a comparison between the process itself and its "reverse". But how can one define the reverse of an irreversible process? Only for simple processes we can rely on our intuition, and it's in these cases that the famous fluctuation theorems have been first derived and later demonstrated experimentally.
We propose a universal recipe based on logical inference and Bayes' rule, which extends to quantum processes by choosing the Petz recovery map as the reverse channel. In this talk, we present this approach, together with the insights that it provides. Among the latter, the possibility of observing fluctuation relations in non-physics settings will be illustrated with the results obtained using a popular card game.
