Understanding Hindu Cosmology: The Cycles of the Universe

Understanding Hindu Cosmology: The Cycles of the Universe
This video delves into the intricate connections between cosmology, religion, and science within Hinduism, presenting a comprehensive understanding of the universe and humanity's spiritual journey. Here are the three main points:
Hindu cosmology envisions the universe as continuously created and destroyed in infinite cycles. These cycles are defined by periods known as yugas (Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga), each representing different levels of spiritual consciousness and social order.
This cyclical concept emphasizes the belief that the universe is in a constant state of transformation, with each phase bearing the imprint of its predecessor.
Central to Hindu cosmology is the concept of Brahman, the source of all existence and the ultimate reality of the universe. Brahman embodies fundamental truth and supreme reality, forming the deep metaphysical and philosophical underpinnings of Hinduism.
The different manifestations of Brahman-Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver), and Shiva (the destroyer)-symbolize the cyclical nature and constant change of the universe.
Hindu cosmology distinguishes between the spiritual and material realms, a distinction that forms one of the core philosophical foundations of Hindu thought.
The material realm represents the physical world, bounded by time and space, where the cycle of birth, life, death, and rebirth (samsara) dominates, shaped by the law of karma. In contrast, the spiritual realm is seen as an infinite and timeless reality, the abode of absolute peace, happiness, and wisdom.

This is the interpretation of Hindu cosmology according to just one tradition. It's not "the definitive" statement of Hinduism. There is actually no definitive statement! That's one of the beauties of Sanatana Dharma. If the interpretation in this video puts you off, keep looking. Again: this video is not "wrong"; it's just not the only "right" one. Namaste.

"There is no definitive statement" yes but only to "uninformed". 🤣🤣. Hindu/dharmic tradition was built around Vedic metaphysics Sankhya (which combines Advaitha and Dvaitha) which can be validated by logic, double slit quantum experiment and embodied experience. ERWIN SCHRODINGER (ONE OF THE FOUNDING FATHERS OF QUANTUM MECHANICS) Schrodinger's biographer Moore wrote -- “His system - or that of the Hindu Upanishads/Vedas - is delightful and consistent: the self and the world are one and they are all. He rejected traditional western religious beliefs (Jewish, Christian, and Islamic) not on the basis of any reasoned argument, nor even with an expression of emotional antipathy, for he loved to use religious expressions and metaphors, but simply by saying that they are naïve--and will NOT understand Quantum physics and consciousness. (CONSCIOUS, IMMANENT AND OMNIPRESENT SELF = SHIVA and THOUGHTS/BODY/W0RLD/UNIVERSE = SHAKTHI OR INTELLIGENT ENERGY) Erwin Schrodinger wrote: “Vedanta teaches that consciousness is singular, all happenings are played out in one universal consciousness and there is no multiplicity of selves.” Carl Sagan (Astrophysicist) “The Hindu/Vedic tradition is the world’s greatest tradition dedicated to the idea that the cosmos itself undergoes an immense number of deaths and rebirths. It is the only tradition in which the time scales correspond no doubt to those of modern scientific cosmology. The cycles run from our ordinary day and night to a day and night of Brahma - 8.64 billion years long. It is longer than the age of the Earth, the Sun, and half the time since the Big Bang.” It also means, 'Big Bang" does not mean "one time" 'creation" of the universe (out of thin air) around 4004 BCE at 8.30 am in the morning by some transcendent god with a magic wand. 😀😀

Hinduism sums up my own research into reality via science and philosophy. It's fascinating and it's becoming my core beliefs now. I am reading the Upanishards and will go on to the rigvedas. I also enjoy reading all religious text and I think truth is a combination of many of these beliefs but only the oldest forms. Before they were edited. Many uneducated believe their religious text were never edited which is impossible as anyone shall know from the game of telephone. Even if unintentional it happens by nature of reality itself. This is the reason people believe this reality is an illusion. It's not. It's just constantly evolving and changing and that means it erases things that were, including truths. It's inherent to us, to our very DNA as we age they become sloppy and this causes Cancer. It's everywhere and all things and to think "no this book written and rewritten and translated, is precisely as it was" is tantamount to pure insanity. I beg you my spiritual brothers to use science, history, philosophy and spirituality in your quest for truth. And bring in to heaven what you will, whimsy, love of fantasy, beauty etc. Express yourself fully as it is the divine universe expressing itself through you. Become, become, become what you always were. Always been. Always will be. The eternal aspect. Show us, your fellow aspects of infinity what you represent. So we may commune and debate in the celestial courts outside space time under the guiding wisdom of God, the Brahman. Who we may never interact with directly even as we ascend the infinite ladder of spiritual improvement but is always there. Loving and nurturing as a father and mother. Whose infinite ladder of improvement and love and understanding of all forces good and evil hint at the infinite level of unity grasped within the power of God. Unfathomable. -Written from a stream of deep consciousness.

@drizzlenumba1 "under the guiding wisdom of God, the Brahman. Who we may never interact with directly" nah. Non translatable Sanskrit word Brahman is NOT the same as god. The word god and its definition are based on monotheism followed by ABRAHAMIC religions. It also means, there is no concept of god or heaven or hell in Hindu tradition. Tat tvam Asi (Chandogya Upanishad - Sama Veda Chapter 6 Verse 8.7) You (athma) are (already) that (Brahman/Shiva). How is that possible? Without the conscious field of Athma (Brahman), nothing can exist or nothing can be perceived in its current form or everything disappears. Duality cycles of nature (intelligent energy) cannot happen.. For example Birth/death (including reincarnation) youth/old age, waking/sleeping, male/female, day/night, action/reaction, freezing/melting, Summer/winter, manifestation/concealment of universe etc This is why Vedas say without Shiva (athma) there is no Shakti (Intelligent energy) and without Shakti there is no Shiva How to confirm this profound truth Brahman’s conscious field is connected with prana shakti. Prana Shakti is connected to breath Kriya Yoga says that if we focus on our breath, release it slowly, control it (5 to 10 seconds) and repeat it, We go from the wake state to dream state and then to deep sleep state. This transformation can take place only in the conscious field of Brahman (Athma). Because of blind devotion or Bhakthi some people wrongly assume that Athma and Brahman are different. By saying this, Hindu tradition becomes like Christianity and Islam, because they also say that soul and God are different. Of course, in Abrahamic religions, souls are just limited to humans and there is no connection between consciousness and soul. But in HIndu tradition, consciousness is an attribute of omnipresent athma just like heat is an attribute of fire and the sun. Conscious field pervades every animate and inanimate just like a jewel thread which goes through different pearls. Finally, tat tvam asi means Brahman’s conscious field is not only in samadhi but also in wake, dream and deep sleep states because Athma and Brahman are one. Impassive Experiencer Brahman (athma) is not the doer (Sri Krishna-Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 5, 13 Verses 8, 21)

Lord Krishna said, "My Dear Arjuna, Millions of years ago I Instructed this Imperishable Science of Yoga to the Sun god Vivashwan, and Vivashwan Instructed It to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu Instructed It to Ikshwaku a saintly King of Ancient times ". Science; Observable, Testable and Repeatable. The "Horizon" is indeed "Horizontal" and no matter how high the altitude it stays at "Eye-Level". The "Constellations" are "Constant" and the Stars in Heaven are Firm in their Position and Firm in their Brightness. God Created the Firmament to separate the waters from Above (were MahaVishnu naps) from the waters below (The Great Garbhodaka Ocean). Water Aways Finds It's Level, Sea Level. The Whole of this Little 4 headed brahma Universe has an Up and It has a Down. A Dwarf named Vamana poked a hole in God's Firmament with His big toe and the waters from Above came pouring in and Down. Beyond the 360 degrees Antarctica ice-ring lies concentric rings of Lands and Oceans. There are gates in this ice-wall and the powers that be know about these passageways and indeed they use them (Operation High Jump and Deep Freeze). When the shell breaks and the child is exposed to new adventures he doesn't realize there are new shells, but if he examines the fractals in the broke pieces of his shell, he can piece together the Whole. He then transforms a hole of understanding into a more whole understanding. 😊

A very responsible and realised presentation..thank you. Some day the West will come to East for more knowledge and insight in to cosmology.. We Hindus know that knowledge is not a commodity...it's divine ...that is the reason the approach also is very indirect and deeper than what we could see through all those tele and microscopes..and these scopes are all man made..as imperfect as man himself.. that's the reason all scientific researches are great failures. Waste of money .. man is not a perfect creature ..so his creations cannot be perfect like God's.. .

@MandralaFilms Kindly understand that Shiva/Vishnu/Brahma and their wives Shakthi/Lakshmi/Saraswathi are just cosmic allegories for the same immortal and omnipresent self Athma (the impassive experiencer of everything but not the doer of anything) and intelligent energy. Husband and wife always exist together for the perpetual duality cycles of nature to happen (in the conscious field of the husband). e.g. Rajas/Tamas guna duality cycle in the conscious field of athma sustained by Sathvik guna of intelligent energy. Summer (Brahma + Saraswathi), Winter (Shiva + Shakthi) duality cycles in the conscious field (of the husband) sustained by spring or dharma (vishnu + Lakshmi) As far as Krishna and other avatars are concerned, they were incarnatiions or non karmic birth. Krishna did not say "I am god". If he did then he wouldn't have said the following verse in Bhagavad Gita Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2 Verse 12 (ATHMA = PARAMATHMA) “na tv evāhaṁ jātu nāsaṁ na tvaṁ neme janādhipāḥ na caiva na bhaviṣyāmaḥ sarve vayam ataḥ param” “Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings, and from this time forward, none of us will ever cease to be” Here, Sri Krishna refers to the conscious, immortal, immutable, self luminous, immanent (athma), transcendent and omnipresent paramathma as 'I", ''you ``,''us ``. Point is, Krishna was a mortal (like other avatars) even though an avatar (non karmic birth). He was killed by a stray arrow of a hunter (Vali's reincarnation) since avatar Rama was cursed by Vali's pious wife Thara for killing her husband by hiding behind a tree.

nah The Sanskrit word "Devata" is wrongly translated as a "demigod" in English. In fact, the word Devata is just another NON TRANSLATABLE Sanskrit word. It means there is NO equivalent English word or any other language word. Devata is completely different from the Judeo-Chrisitian- Islamic idea of angels, demigods and god. What exactly does devata mean? It is just a cosmic allegory for nature and laws of nature which maintain the cosmic order like sun, moon, rain, thunder, karma and dharma devatas But demigods and gods refer to titans/superhuman beings of the so-called pagans which Abrahamic religions absorbed. Unfortunately, some so called hindu gurus also mistranslate the sanskrit word Devata to demigods.
