I have just returned from hospital after spending 8 days with life threatening cellulitis. It was so painful that it disabled me. I could not stand or sit in a vertical position and had remain in a horizontal position. I had very high blood clot risk and felt lucky to have survived. In hospital I was treated with intravenous antibiotics for 6 days then went on to oral antibiotics. This is scary stuff

Try to prevent cuts, scrapes, or other injuries to your skin. Cellulitis most often occurs where there is a break in the skin. If you get a scrape, cut, mild burn, or bite, wash the wound with clean water as soon as you can to help avoid infection. Don't use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, which can slow healing.👍

I had class 3 Cellulitis without even realising, I was walking in pain thinking I sprained an ankle and no one at work would take me seriously after 2 days, I decided to go to the ER and they had mentioned as I have an insect bite and a blister either one has caused me to have the redness and swelling, but it wasnt until they took my blood that if I didnt get treated right away my life would be in danger. Im so glad I listened otherwise I would not be here, thank you for sharing these educational videos 💗

I've contracted cellulitis infectious after being bitten by an insect, on my left ankle. It became very swollen, pinkish & painful, so I went to the hospital with my dad. Now, I need to rest a lot, lying all day in bed & take the prescribed antibiotics to fully recover. So, thanks for this interesting video! It helps me understanding the disease. ☺️

Great video. I suffered from cellulitis on both of my lower legs in 2015 and presented myself in A&E. It was clear that my condition was evolving; erythema, oedema, tightness, small pustules. I have long suffered from plaque psoriasis and my legs were around 90% covered by plaques at the time, which preceded the onset of the cellulitis. It is likely that the deep splits/cracks in the skin allowed microbial activity to flourish, notwithstanding my best efforts at hygiene. I was prescribed a full course of Flucoxacillin, then Erythromycin, then Co-Amoxiclav. The infection was quite resistant in certain areas, hence the multitude of antibiotics.

Went to bed one night (two years ago) with hints of this on left leg. Woke up the very next morning and discovered that it spread solid red from ankle to thigh and hot to the touch. This was accompanied by a fever and other symptoms I can't even name. Skin was super tight and could barely walk as it hurt to put pressure on it. Went to emergency room and was admitted and hospitalized for several days. That was a couple of years ago and although the fever and heat have subsided, the redness only decreased but never fully went away two years later. There is still redness from ankle to shin and calf. Haven't discovered a way to get rid of the lingering redness all over my lower leg. The cause must be from 30 years ago when I had a beer bottle thrown at my left shin that broke on impact and left a small, vulnerable looking scar that never went away. I'm almost positive that this is the entry point for whatever it is that enters my shin and causes cellulitis. Not sure how to get rid of the remaining redness, but grateful that I haven't been experiencing the 'hot to the touch' and 'fever' part of it.

I had to watch this. I had Cellulitis soon after a knee replacement. The Hospital ward was so negligent and yes ABUSIVE, that I released myself the day following the op - and was threatened by staff while leaving. That convinced me that leaving was indeed the wisest choice. Problems arose and family took me to ED. Ed intended to return me to the same ward, but I refused and made it clear, I would return home to my own care before I went back in that Ward. So I was put in another Ward, and apart from finding the staff gossip had reached there too, a perfectly enjoyable recovery was completed. That first ward [ Orthopedic ] convinced me that those staff were in training for Concentration Camp duties. They also were uncommunicative. Failed to let me know that I had Pneumonia a well. It is easy to imagine that I was the problem, however I have yet to meet anyone who has been through the Ortho ward, who has anything competent or respectful to say about it. Until I watched this, I had no idea what the Cellulitis really meant. Thanks.

And the first time, they told me if those don't give improvement within about 24 hrs, to start taking bactrim instead. I really haven't found these meds to have done that great of a job, so it's concerning to my that in this video, none of those were even mentioned! Just wondering if maybe they prescribed less than ideal antibiotics? :(

I researched it and it said it was a chosen antibotic for cellutitus..so I'm sure your doctors were doing the best job they could. If antibotics don't show improvement within two days ..always go back and demand intervenes antibotics..If you have stress or anything that may be bringing your immunion system down ..do not hesitated to get what you need.

Please help !! - I contracted my first impetigo infection on my face a few years ago ( whole cheek area ). We don't know what caused it - may have been a pimple. I've had 2 other infections in the same location within the last 2 years. Doctor's can't tell me why these are reoccuring and have minimal answers for me. I've been on both topical and oral antibiotics where which seemed to clear the infection. What would cause these infections to come back ? Can they lay dormant and come back when the body is under stress / weakened immune system ? Is there a way for you to make sure this infection never returns ? It's destroying my skin and I have permanent damage / scaring in those areas. And lastly, is there any way to determine exactly which type of bacteria is causing this ? I have a feeling it may be strep but not sure if there's a special way to test for it. Thank you !

Sounds like mrsa, it’s not recurring it never fully healing. You are probably colonized meaning you’re carrying the infection and it keeps erupting. Get with infectious disease and get IV vancomycin

@Madison Aphonso 22 yrs ago I got a bad painful blistering rash across my abdomen, my Dr was treating it as shingles. I had a follow up appt a few days later she lifted the dressing to examine the progress & my "rash" erupted & began to ozzze..she quickly swabbed it for a culture. Shortly afterwards (a few days at most) she called & said she identified a strain of staph (MRSA) Years later, I've learned how to manage. I focus on prevention & doing so I rarely get symptoms anymore. Im not sure I could have been able to do so without knowing exactly I was dealing with, talk with Dr I'm sure at least a culture can be done. Best of luck

I went to the dermatologist as a follow-up on a infection I had. I had to take pills for it and it worked I was very pleased. I went there and the dermatologist started looking over my legs and said we have probable cancer in these two areas. I said yeah. So she took a whole punch and made two holes on either side just above of my ankle. This was December 4th. A week later she said I have precancer. I had to go in and get it done they needed to scrape. I went there and it hurts so bad and they bandaged it. They gave me a cream that was in a huge tub. They said wipe some on. The medicine said use only 10 days. I went back to the dermatologist and said there must be an infection this hurts terrible. She said oh it couldn't hurt that much. She wanted to take a culture and it hurt like heck. She got it out and I said it's probably staph infection. Within 3 days they called and said that I had an infection staph. They put me on pills twice a day for 10 days. The pain It never really never gave up. Call dermatologist and said my ankle is on fire with these wounds. I had to go back she looked at them and said I had to go to wound therapy. I've been going to wound therapy 2 months. It was hurting way too much for her to even touch it. I said maybe I have another infection. So took a sample out of the wound. The wounds would hurt so bad I couldn't sleep through the night I had to get up and set. Terrible terrible couple of weeks. Then they said 10 days on a IV at home. They were real nice came every day nurses to look my wounds over. They came today and changed the bandaging on the wound. I finished the IV two days ago. I still have burning pain in the holes and one of them has to be almost half an inch wide. The only thing I wanted to say if you go to a dermatologist and they want to start taking biopsies out of you think twice. I didn't even have cancer they said but since December it's been a real challenge. I have to walk with a Walker but I've been doing that for a few years. The leg that has the holes in it was broken 5 years ago A truck hit me on my bicycle and broke the femur bone. They put a metal rod in and since then I've had to walk with a cane or use a walker.

If I’ve had cellulitis because of an open cut underneath my pinky toe, and fully recovered, will I be at higher risk of having cellulitis even if I get a mosquito bite anywhere in that same leg? So basically every time there’s a mosquito bite I’ll have recurring intense cellulitis ?

@@buxaplen_ty about three weeks. I was in the hospital for a week, then got released and continued the antibiotic (they gave me Cephalexin). I took that for about two weeks. Since the skin was infected from toes to knee, the healing process involved the skin dying and peeling of the dead skin through wound care. Some of it looked like I had a terrible sunburn. I’m 5 weeks in and while the skin has all peeled and new skin has come up, it’s still red and swollen.
