Understand and Remove Your System Data | Declutter Your Mac

A couple of weeks ago, I made a video about how to clean up your system data on your Mac. It helped a lot of people remove temporary files, application caches, or unused downloads that accumulate on their system. In this video, I hope to help you understand how system data is formed and learn practical strategies to prevent unnecessary clutter from slowing down your hard drive.

At timestamp 7:26 you have opened the Finder options for list view. You had ‘Calculate All Size’ DISABLE/UNCHECKED so that is why the file sizes are not shown later in the video (you said they still had to be calculated). If you check this option on, you can then sort folder contents by size and see right away which ones are taking up the most space.

Simple and easy to understand this tutorial...helped me to resolve my System Data issue, where I was able to deleted 200GB of videos I had accidentally recorded trying to learn screen record...after having looked at several other tutorials, I just followed your step by step actions...and there it was: GONE... 🌬

Another suggestion is to look at files modification dates. This will let you know if files that you are considering on deleting may have been used or modified lately. If they have, they are active in your regular tasks, so be careful if you think you should delete them.

Whoa! This is actually mind-blowingly good advice. If I ever make a video about this very topic, I would definitely mention that you've educated me about this stuff. Thanks again!

first of all: if you really need after effects, you have to understand how it works and what is need to work effective with. and thats include to go to the settings in AE and define where the cache is and ideally it is a very fast ssd like the onboard one, but you can use surely an external one, which keeps your system clean. deleting all those folders can lead you in a completely bad or non working macOS. Get tools like daisy disk to get an overview where the junk is located, but be careful with deleting these, because you have to know whats junk and whats not. just my 5 cents
