Arcane Eye; it's even more useful than you let on. Build a cap or crown of Arcane Eye with permanency. Now you always have 360 degree vision with the eye that's active so long as you wear the cap or crown. No need to cast it with concentration, freeing up your normal spell casting ability. Furthermore, it is unaffected by spells or environmental effects that typically blind you. So even if you fail a save against a condition like blindness you can still see with the eye. Given that it's 360 degree vision, you also can't be caught by surprise. Similarly you can cast it with Persistent Spell for a similar effect without concentration. On D&D Beyond (now One D&D) there are some expanded metamagic feats, one of which is a a variation of Twin Spell. It doesn't expressly state that the spell cast must be a damaging spell. With Metamagic Adept and Multimetamagic you can technically, with this version of the feat, cast two of these Arcane Eyes with Persistence, giving you 24 hours of dual omnidirectional points of vision.

I'm a forever DM, but the one long campaign I got to be a player in saw me as a straight-class Wizard. I absolutely broke the game with Arcane Eye and my familiar. It was too much scouting and made ambushing the party impossible. Every dungeon was fully mapped before entering. The DM asked me politely to stop using the spell, which I did because D&D is about everyone having fun, and I was dramatically overshadowing the Rogue and the Ranger.

Great Video! If i can add another great perk to the spell Psychic Lance is the fact one of the best anti-caster ever. The Icapacitated condition not only makes you lose your turn and your reaction but it breaks immediately the concentration of the target. This one of the best way (like banishment) to remove a magical effects and the turn of an enemy caster.

I never looked twice at M's faithful hound, you have opened my eyes to its diabolical application.
An Honorable Mention should definitely be Sickening Radiance. Not only can this spell be comboed with something like Wall of Force or Forcecage to just microwave your enemies, but there's a special trick to it. You see, if a creature in its area of effect succeeds on its saving throw, that creature suffers none of the effects caused by the spell. At first glance, this seems like a downside designed to balance out the spell. However, if you can apply the Careful Spell Metamagic, either through being a Sorcerer or by taking the Metamagic Initiate feat, you can cast Sickening Radiance in the middle of the battlefield whilst guaranteeing that your own party is immune to its effects. Then just watch your enemies melt.

I know they're in 3.5 and not 5, but Explosive Cascade and Blistering Radiance are some of my all-time favorite 4th-level spells. Explosive Cascade is Fireball but it hits a long chain of contiguous squares instead of a big sphere, which means you can spam it point blank and weave it all over through battle, only hitting who you want. Blistering Radiance is a low-power Fireball that hits a COLOSSAL AREA and keeps burning for 1 round per caster level. Extra fun when you use Metamagic to double the radius. For summon greater demon, the blood is actually preferable. You make a blood circle that the demon cannot enter. Put it in a doorway, and the demon is locked in the room. You stand in the circle, the demon can only tear apart your party ( unless they throw something to push you out, I guess)
@theuncalledfor
Жыл бұрын
No it's not. You need to murder a humanoid every 24h to keep the spell prepared, which is not only an annoying chore, but can also get you in trouble with the law, to put it mildly. Your party is kind of important for staying safe, plus they're gonna win the fight and then they're gonna be extremely angry at you. You're transforming a valuable asset into a dangerous enemy. And may I remind you that the circle only protects you from the demon, not from literally anything else. Your party doesn't need to throw anything, they can just physically push you out and feed you to the demon. This is an incredibly foolish plan.
@carsonrush3352

Do humans killed in self defense count as legal blood fodder for this spell? Because I know some extra violent cultists and bandits who I could approach in the spirit of "aggressive defense", and then we can knock out the rest of them once we've got blood from one of them.
@theuncalledfor
Жыл бұрын
@@carsonrush3352 It says "killed", not "murdered", so self defense does count. But you can't really rely on being attacked/having sufficiently evil humanoids to kill every day, so you should still carry an arcane focus that you can use. Also, again, the ring only protects one person, and your allies won't be happy about being stranded outside with a raging demon. Just use a focus.
I played a Demon summoning wizard in one of my campaigns. My DM, for some reason, gave me basically the demon unholy grail. It was a cup of black ichor that would summon a random demon (rolled from a d6) and wasn't concentration. It also gave any demons I summoned disadvantage on breaking my control over them. That, plus summon greater demon twice? I basically didn't have to fight because my demon squad did it for me.

I believe you can do the Hound Combo with Resilient Sphere at a lower level, and then take Wall of Force later to make it better
@kennethmorgan8795

Problem with Resilient is that comes down to DM interpretation since it targets and encircles a specific creature (up to large so also smaller), also it can save to negate... but it is a good poor man's choice for those 2 lvls the casters don't have Wall of Force.
10:59 neat part about that is that Component Pouches contain every material component without a cost, regardless of whether it consumes after casting. This means it technically has infinite of any material component that is consumed, and it perpetually has the blood of a humanoid murdered within the last 24 hours, and presumably all the previous 24 hour blood. And always is the same size and weight.

If I were DM, I would allow it, but the players would wish I didn't. Component Pouches contain but do not create anything. The blood still has to come from somewhere. After ten or so uses, the bloodhunters are going to show up and attack the party for (unknowingly) serial killing nearby innocents and magically draining them of blood. The PCs will likely win the encounter. Their honor will be trash. Their patrons will be angered. Their allies will shun them. If they try to argue, an patron god will answer, "What exactly did you think the word MURDERED meant?"
Adding to the greatness of SGD, Dybbuks (CR 4) can Dimension Door at will. High risk, high reward teleport. Babaus can cast Dispel Magic at will. For when you need a lot of magic dispelled.

Arcane Eye: Requires an action to move, and is a concentration spell. Not the greatest use of action economy if you have to move it around. But also, you can't curve spells around total cover if it targets them. The rules state "To target something, you must have a clear path to it, so it can’t be behind total cover." It doesn't matter if you can see them, you still need to have a clear path. EDIT: Same situation with Psychic Lance. It requires a clear path to the target. Even if you could, a concentration spell like Banishment wouldn't work, because you have to drop concentration on Arcane Eye to be able to cast Banishment, and dropping concentration would also mean you could no longer see the target to properly cast Banishment at it.

@tazman2253

well here is the issue the arcane eye can't see through total cover. Basically it can bypass cover as long as there is a way to get around the cover if something is hiding behind a big ass rock it has total cover from you. However if your arcane eye is high enough to see over that rock it no longer has any cover from you because you can see through the eye from the other side of the rock meaning now you ignore the total cover bonus because its not hiding from you on that side.
@shadowfate05

@@caseykits He's addressing both. You wouldn't really need to "curve bullets" if it's just vision obscurement. He's obviously implying it can go around physical obstructions. But since you're casting a spell that targets, it requires a clear path, which total cover blocks.

@@tazman2253 Cover is a physical obstruction between you and something else. Arcane eye doesn't let you cast from the eye. Just because you can see around it does not mean you can go through the obstruction. There is no clear path from you to the target because the obstruction is blocking it.

Low hp Polymorph is great. Polymorph someone into a frog with 1 hp and no viable attacks. Grab the frog, shove it in a bag or satchel, and command your flying familiar to fly up 200 feet then drop. The enemy will take 20d6 damage and all leftover damage will carry over into its true form. You can even have the party prepare an action to attack your enemy once landing for safe measure. The power word kill RAW should work with polymorph, but 99% of DMs are going to errata that combo once you poly+silvery barbs+PWK the BBG. Great ideas, keep them coming!
Off topic but I’d love to see some Spell lists specific for expected purposes or needs. Like for Druids, expecting to be traveling or interacting in a city or dungeon delving or monster tracking etc.
I’d add Sickening Radiance to the list. 30 foot radius, and whenever someone enters or starts their turn there, on a failed Con save (not an ideal save for a spell to have, but other aspects make up for this) they take 4d10 radiant damage AND a level of exhaustion. At six levels of exhaustion, you’re just dead. Which for most spells, can be kinda tricky to have a target go through six failed saves. But here’s the thing- the concentration on Sickening Radiance lasts up to ten minutes. So if you’ve got another caster who can throw up a wall of force or something, you’ve locked them in a magical microwave, and are just cooking them. For ten minutes. So it doesn’t matter how good their con saves are. Because somewhere in the SIX HUNDRED saves they’ll have to make, they’re going to accrue six failures.
Managed to nearly tpk with gravity sinkhole 2 months ago. Good times.
Shadow of Moil, Armor of Agathys, and Fire Shield is my favorite Gish combo, lmao. Swords Bard, Lockadin, and Sorlocks can all make use of it to some degree. I love Shadow of Moil so much. That greater demon has shredded some encounters i made. Especially in close confines with the party positioning themselves with the demon on the other side of some enemies. I usually have the demon be after the one who tried to bind him, but if there's others in the way it will fight them too.
Remember players: start pulling off shenanigans like this too often and the DM will too. And the DM makes the world, so you'll likely find it a lot less fun. I had a DM who had a dungeon that they had built years prior to the session that they used it. The knowledge cleric had JUST leveled up and gotten access to Arcane Eye, and chose to use it for the "exploration of the entire dungeon" effect. The DM asked for the writing of the spell, and then asked if the player really wanted to do that, and the player said yes. Turns out that the DM had made a trap room that, upon seeing an altar in the room, would give a temporary (random) madness effect. The cleric "sees" the altar, loses ALL of their memories, and in a fit of terror, flees the party and runs into the trap-filled dungeon. One of the other PCs ended up dying, and the cleric refused to heal them because they believed that the party was hostile to them

One of my favourite uses for Arcane Eye is that, if it's high up enough in the air, you're basically immune to being blinded or effects that affect you by eye contact. Medusas, Basilisks, Blindness, even darkness for a non-dark vision race - you're all good to go!

Nah, it uses concentration, so you basically invest your whole spellcasting potential ( except for pure blasting ) into the spell. It would be 10 times better with something like "when you drop concentration it fades away for next minute", but practically it is more like "DM, I burn 4th level slot, so give me a map of the dungeon" 9/10, and sneaking/spying in social encounters for the rest 1/10.

@@Ant3rn i learned a very valuable lesson with arcane eye, use doors, i made a dungeon that was a cave with a bunch of off shoots so the wizard used arcane eye and the party knew the dungeon, ut even 1 well placed door screws that up

@@TheAciddragon069 The doors! The most powerful enemy and the bane of the adventurers. Critical role confirmed.
We killed an Elder Brain using the WoF + Faithful Hound combo.....with a transmuted psychic damage Cloudkill for extra oomph
Tensor's disk + Hound is amazing. Not sure it would work RAW ( rather nope ), but definitely by the rule of cool.
Our DM pit us against an invincible legendary bear, and our task was to escape. It took a while to figure out what we were doing, but the bear never got to damage us because I rolled highest in initiative and spammed Psychic Lance three turns in a row. The bear didn't take any damage, but it was unable to do anything for the entire battle.
I didn't know gravity sinkhole existed, but now I need to make a character that can use it
Yup, the only downside of summon greater demon is that it makes Infernal calling weak, expensive and redundant a lot of the time in comparison.
Gravity Sinkhole is dunamancy. You only get access to it if dunamis energy is a thing in your campaign, and only if you find it in a spellbook or you're a type of dunamancer.
The dragon could also keep the dogs mouth closed by squishing it's face between it's thumb and its pointyclaw. Or squish the doggo against the wall, face down. 😊
Oh yeah, I LOVE using gravity sinkhole! It's metal af 🤘
One thing not mentioned is that the faithful hounds aren’t concentration so you can pull up with multiple. Triple pit bull death barrage style.
Gravity sphere is great in certain locales. Toward the end of the final fight in tomb of annihilation, I had Acererak use this to drop survivors into the lava. It was brutal
could you do a video on a Pact of the Chain Warlock with Flock of Familiars and the "Investment of the Chain Master" evocation?
I've always thought Disintegrate is a straight line, that can not be curved. Not sure you can cast it while being behind cover
I'm well aware that it's not a 4th level spell combo, but Wall of Force + Scatter is really good too. Scatter is high key one of my favorite spells in the game along with Transmute Rock and Sickening Radiance. But Scatter only has one stipulation about where you can teleport creatures to... They need to be on a solid surface. That's where Wall of Force comes in, which can be use as a walkway and extended into the air or... I don't know... off cliffs. Be a class that can cast both spells, take that 2-level dip into fighter for Action Surge, summon the force wall, extend it off a cliff enough that you can fit up to 6 creatures on its length, use Action Surge (Which has been confirmed allows you to cast a second leveled spell), cast Scatter, TP them to the force "wall" path, end concentration on the Wall of Force, and watch as up to six helpless creature plummet to the ground below, potentially killing them, if not doing massive damage.
If it removed my comment because of link, heres one without the link: Gravity Sinkhole cannot lift targets into the air any significant amount. If it is 10 feet off the ground, it is only going to be able to grab enemies within 10 feet of the center. If it's 20 feet up, it will only be able to grab one target, the one it is directly on top of. That's how spheres work. Arcane Eye doesn't let you "curve bullets" at all. You just shoot straight through the heavy obscurement area. You could accomplish the same thing with a mirror on a stick. But the way you word it makes it sound as if you could curve a Fireball around a wall to hit an enemy behind it which is not the case. The PHB very clearly says that you must have a clear path to the target. Having sight on it does not equal having a clear path to it. This has already been ruled on by Jeremy Crawford. Also, heavy obscurement does not provide total cover. Also, Wall of Force does not work on an adult red dragon, as it is a Huge creature and would be too large to fit in a 10' radius sphere (try it on a map, the corners of the Huge cube will always poke out.) Even if it could, there would be no room for the dog inside, as you would be compressing the dragon into part of every space inside the sphere. And the dog does not have a fly speed, so you would be unable to angle the sphere to get both inside it in the first place. Every one of these videos gets less and less accurate. You're literally ignoring RAW and Sage Advice at this point.

Yeah he messed up with some of his points in this one. I will dissagree with you in regards to the Faithful Hound + Wall of Force combo. While a 15ft square can't fit inside a 10ft circle I don't think it needs to. A huge creature isn't necessarily physically 15*15ft. A human (medium creature) isn't actually 5*5ft. Even if we go by strict size categories, a creature can squeeze into a space one category smaller than itself. In regard to the hounds space, the spell doesn't state that it occupies its space. It does need an unoccupied space to be summoned, but once there your fellow wizard friend can cast Wall of Force once the dragon is standing over the hound.
6:15 i can see into material plane as well.
Polymorph version 5.0 saved my Party. My Sorcerer used Twin Spell to transform myself and another P. C. (we where both seriously injured ) into T-Rex's, with new creature HP for the enemies to get thru .. my T-Rex got a critical bite attack for a impressive 80 points damage !
the cost for summoning a greater demon can be a bit high, depending on your group.
I feel like you should mention that the Gravity Sinkhole spell is limited to the graviturgy subclass of wizard
I had a player overpass the petrifying stare of a basilisk by being blinded while looking through his familiars senses, keeping the familiar away from the basilisk and then using the familiar to know where the basilisk was to target it! I think Arcane Eye might be even more efficient than this!
You can also cast invisibility on arcane eye
I am in a campaign where both the party, and our enemies, each had a boat. The enemies were also weresharks and had a large slow but powerful ship, we had a smaller faster ship (that could also fly?) Anyways, we would abuse Summon Greater Demon by dropping a demon or two on the ship and driving away. The DM wasnt happy.

Dang, I'm surprised the DM didn't use the same tactic against you after the second time. Your DM did you a solid.
If the DM allows the UA chronomancer wizard subclass (which is pretty broken imo) then there is actually a way to pull off the hound + wall of force combo in 1 turn as the chronomancer has a workaround to the only 1 leveled spell per turn rule. I did this but instead of hound I used radiant sickness to potentially stack exhaustion on everything inside.
I'd say a VERY underrated 4th level spell is Death Ward, it has the ability to NEGATE instant death! Also can prevent someone from dropping to zero HP (instead puts them at 1). I've NEVER seen it used by any of my players over the years. Never understood why...
The opening line of the dad fucking got me god damn 😈🇬🇧
10:53 I mean, if there is one thing, a DnD-party has a constant supply of, it is human blood. Most partys just don't bother to harvest it properly ...
Storm sphere is also pretty cool, concentration 40 foot diameter sphere of damaging difficult terrain, and you get an advantage lightning strike on anyone inside of it as a bonus action, anyone with less than 40 foot movement in the center cant get out, put it between your party and a group of enemies and its pretty good
If I can slap Gravity Sinkhole on my Gunslinger/Forge Cleric, I will effectively have a black hole gun and I live for it
Sorrcer fighter multi class can fire psychic lance can action surge and twin spell to to cast it four times in a single turn or a enchantment wizard of tenth level with action surge can as well with no other resource requirements other then action surge (Provided you put two levels in fighter.) (Level 12)
> Be a party of three > Well known throughout the region for our heroics > Hired by another government to stop sky-pirates > Druid finds the enemy ship and forces their hand into attack > We board the ship and make our way through hoards of pirates > Find the captain, a Cyclops > Almost kills us all immediately, forced to hide behind a bunch of cover made by the Druid (DM said that the cement the ship was carrying could be affected by Stone Shape) > Everybody including the DM is freaking out trying to think of a way to escape this alive > Warlock casts Summon Greater Demon > A Barlgura proceeds to maul the Cyclops > Warlock then casts Wall of Fire and surrounds the Cyclops with it, almost instantly vaporizing the poor thing > Fire ignites several tons of gunpowder > Entire ship explodes into a fireball before crashing into a forest > Party barely survives by hiding inside the Fighters ring (It had a tiny mansion hidden in it like that one turtle from Jojo)
For the benefits it gives, I am surprised that freedom of movement is not concentration. It's a pretty good spell to give on your frontliner or even the squishy casters
correction on the sponsor. it's not a sexy robot, it's a sexy sword piloting a mech
