luv these kinds of stories ,, had painter on the job tell me yeah i got one of those Les Pauls my kids luv playing around with it , i was learning some music at lunch told him bring it to the job lets check it out maybe ill buy it how the conversation got started ,, brought it the next day original 57 gold top PAFs and case most beautiful green patina u ever saw ,, told me $1500 it was mine talk about the devil on my shoulder , took him to my friends guitar shop to confirm what i already new ,, if he wasn't raising 6 boys on his own working like mad dog 7 days a week ,, yeah i think he ended getting $70k for it and changing his families future , saw him way later and he gave ME $1500 just for being honest ,, i still have dreams about that one funny thing is about 6-8 months later out of the blue i ended up getting my Dads 62 strat back that had been stolen 4yrs earlier ,,

@robanicich2878 oh fair, yeah I agree with that i thought he meant as in to not be played. I hate when people do pickup swaps or change the original pieces that are in a condition as good as this
@southboundsuarez9832

@beanmang3791 Yeah well so much more that happens often I'd thst these older Lester's ate finding their way to opportunistic luithiers that use them as a base to fabricate a forgery of a 59. Some of the gold tops actually even have some fairly nice patterned maple flame on them, which is perfect fodder to refin and create some convincing '59 burst from the bones of manybof these earlier guitars. It's a shame that this lessens the amount of actual original debut guitars but likewise dilutes the 59 guitars out there. There is a story or rumour that purports that somewhere nobody had attempted to make a legit registry of certified 59 bursts and as far as anyone could ascertain from the Gibson order sheets and records that thru the end of 58 and to the end of 1960 a limited number of bursts were produced,,, let's just say for example it has been estimated at 1200 (just for example) however this online registry has had over 4000 bursts that have been registered as out there surviving and for all practical purposes fairly well initially identified. Somewhere since that time frame a whole lot more bursts started circulating!
Fascinating that the tone most of us are chasing was the very first one. Not sure it ever got better than a Gibson P90.
Considering how well made And sounding the reissues are now There is absolutely no reason to convert one of those! Keep them original!!!!🤘

It's an error. There's nothing wrong with swapping the bridge so you can play it. Not doing so would be like not fucking your wife so the next guy has something fresh and untampered with.

@@saltpeter500To be fair to Joe,he takes a load of guitars from his collection on tour with him.Seen him live twice,and his guitar tech spends almost as much time on the stage as he does! Changes his instrument many times during a two hour straight session. Oh,and just for the record,at the end of the gig,he has sweated right through the back of his shirt AND his suit, so he definitely works hard on that stage! Can’t blame the heat from the spotlight anymore,as they are all cool LED lights today.
What a joy! Dude is shredding a guitar 3 times his age and it sounds like a fine bourbon being poured in a glass and sipped slowly!!! Tasty licks dude!
That tone! Lonely blues hall, cold beer… My kingdom for a riff of my own.
Nice vintage gold top. The amp is worth a fortune. Duane Allman and Clapton recorded the Layla album through those.
Real time capsule machine…even plays well! Dream come true! Unfortunately it will likely go in some vault. Hopefully it will be played or displayed in a museum. Love it!
Matt, one more thing; I love your new album "Mirrors " . It took me back to days of late 60's and early 70's. Man keep showing your rock n roll soul, it's beautiful.
