    Anyone else notice that the bamboo wood grain is matched across the doors? Ken, you're a real craftsman!

    Very nice work. Just one recommendation. Saw you were using a magnet to catch the metal debris when you drilled. If you put the magnet in a vinyl bag, you will find that very easy to remove metal chips when you want to remove it.

    Great design and great construction as always. I'm sold on both bamboo and of course 8020 now (even though it's not a focus in this video). Bamboo is useful, attractive, strong as well as sustainable, so win win. Storage in a van is always at a premium, and this will make the space under the seat very usable. Did I miss something though - latches on the doors?

  • @ourkaravan

    @ourkaravan

    Thank you! The hinges have a lot of resistance, enough so that latches aren't needed. At least for the lightweight materials that will be behind those doors. I'm using it for paddle board accessories, blankets, towels and window shades.

    I am using the Plyboo branded stuff. Cali-bamboo is another competing brand. I've purchased it from two vendors now--Hughes Hardwoods in Rancho Cordova, CA and Auburn Hardwoods in Auburn, CA.

    East coast problems. I haven't found anyone out here that can get it. While there are some CA stockists my only option here is paying a huge shipping fee and ordering far more than I need. :/

    Hi, great conversion, can you get behind the bank when it's all the way to the front?

  • @ourkaravan

    @ourkaravan

    5 жыл бұрын

    You can, but just barely. The seat is thick since the backrest also has the 3rd panel that folds down to extend the bed length. The rails would need to be mounted further forward to make that movement a bit easier.

    @@ourkaravan Hi, Thank you so much for the answer. I've been following this topic for some time and this is the first solution I've found. The space concept of normal RVs is always the same and not advantageous. The combination of the space concept of a Californias or Marco Polo (kitchenette and sliding seat sleep combination) with an additional fixed bed in the rear area (including a large garage underneath) is simply great. With a normal California bench and a front position of the rail it might be possible to get behind the bench. Last but not least..in the rail there are some limit screws - these can be loosened and the front position can be pushed forward.

  • @ourkaravan

    @ourkaravan

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@RobbiPhone Yes, and specifically there's the ability to get the seat to move an additional 6" or so back. I haven't done that modification as it hasn't been needed so far, but nice to know the capability is there.

    How do you like that seat bed? Is the bed mode comfortable?

  • @ourkaravan

    @ourkaravan

    Жыл бұрын

    I have slept well on it for 6.5 years now, but honestly it won't be as comfortable as a full-blown 6" mattress. This bed is the same size as that used in VW camper vans and there are mattress toppers for VW's if you want a bit more comfort. I haven't found I need it though.

    Could you share details on your flooring product?

  • @ourkaravan

    @ourkaravan

    Hi Joe, it's a 20-year vinyl flooring, simply floating on top of the stock MB floor. It's been great, although perhaps not quite as durable as a wood/laminate floor but probably a lot lighter. It's Earthscapes brand, "Pajero 591" style. I hope that helps.
