Under floor Plywood Van/Truck Storage boxes. [Haters Warning - expensive tools used!}

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Warning Viewer sense of humour advised!
Yeah I use expensive tools! Yeah I use materials that cost way too much in some places!
If you can't get either these actual materials, or the have these exact tools there's no way you can make this project, so just sit back, be angry and suck it up big man!
Seriously though, They're just boxes. I always planned to make these boxes ever since I Fitted the inside of my van out about 6 years ago.

    Thanks Steve, A very simple job, I think ext time I'd use 6mm ply for this, maybe a better quality ply, but definitely thinner. They're a bit heavier duty than they need to be for the task, time will tell though! :-) Definitely worth the time to do though as it means the main floor is better used, and things are easier to get to - saving overall time.

    Nice job! I had underfloor storage in my escort van. When the thieving bastards came to call one night they nicked everything on the floor of the van but missed the festool tools that where stored below. I keep all mine in a false wall built into the back of my transit now. Thanks for posting.

    +Michael Tricker 😱 that was lucky! I'm pretty fortunate in that My van is always empty. I know a fair few blokes that just don't have the space to be able to do that. Thanks for watching!

    +goptools Thanks for the watch Mike and taking the time to comment! These simple drawers have turned out to be a big saver in both time searching for bits, and dove freed up for other tools and materials to be carried in an organised way! I'm a big fan of 5 minutes spent today save 20 minutes tomorrow!

    Thanks! I did the floor and carpeted it about 7 years ago, with the intention of putting in these boxes. Up until now I used to just sling stuff under the floor into the space, but too many times stuff would get pushed to the back and forgotten about, and then id be shoulder deep trying to fish it back out! all this came from 1 sheet of Elliot ply with some left over. and means I can fill them up and still have the floor space useable for other things. :-) had them in about 6 weeks now, and "wish I'd don't it years ago"!! :-)

    I know, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I admit though, I do get that people like/dislike certain tools, although the "why" doesn't always make sense to me. I very much try to promote looking past certain Brands, materials, particular finishes etc, in the hope that people might see something they can use. Even with this rather specific project, maybe someone will watch it and think, I could do that for under a bed. Maybe I could use the router to cut trenches rather than a dado stack because they don't have one or the saw doesn't fit them. Even a trade doing similar in their own van/estate/4X4.

    Thanks for the watch! I works great transporting a few more boxes whilst keeping floor space clear. I used 12mm ply, but 9 or even 6mm would work just fine IMHO, it'll also keep the weight down..

    John, Much of my early video antics were filmed AND edited on my Mobile phone with free editing software. Then I moved to Windows Movie maker (again Free), then I swapped to a mac about 18months ago. I still film a lot on my phone and with a Canon 700D, DSLR all my editing now is with iMovie. The rendering is much faster at 1080p. Don't get hung up on the editing though, just point and shoot with what ever you already have! I'll go check check out your channel. :-)

    great idea, is this a low roof connect? can you reccomend a good roof rack system for carrying 8x4 sheets?

  • @BrainFizz

    @BrainFizz

    8 жыл бұрын

    Hi Noel, Yes, it's the low and short. I have two bars that fit the standard 4 roof mounting points, But it's only about 3'10" of width as there are little bits that stick up :-( Fortunately my suppliers all have cutting facilities, so I rarely have need to carry full sheets. If I need full 8X4 I get it delivered. Rhino do a good rack, and there is a company down in the south west (forget the name) that do them. The problem is, due to the location of the fixing bolts there's a big over hang at the back. Many full size racks sit on adjustable feet. I didn't fancy the possibility of it bouncing though. The ones from the southwest are bolted into the rear section of the roof in the space between the rear doors above the seals where the vents are. They cost about £280 last time I looked. I only put the bars on when I need them though. Hope this helps. Cheers for watching! :-)

    Absolutely no idea at all! But it doesn't seem to make any difference to driving. It's a van after all not a sports car. For me being able to organise the space as well as i can is more important than getting a couple of extra miles per gallon! :-)

    I'm done with shelves, draws or anything else. I've got 2 lock boxes fixed to the floor or it's bye bye Festool if any one gets in the back! If they get the mitre saw they've earned it! It weighs a ton!

    I totally agree, these drawers are purely to make access to things easier whilst I'm working. I store Nothing in the van at night. EVERYTHING is removed, and stored securely indoors overnight. It's sickening the amount of guys having their vans ripped off over night! :-(

    Yeah, they are a bit over the top. I used cheap 12mm ply, but could easily have made them in 6mm. At the time this ply was got it was on offer, so it worked out cheaper than using something thinner, but in a better quality (this was the thinnest of this type of ply). Thanks for watching!

    Just out of interest, Google threw up a couple of adds for storage drawers priced at $679, $854 and $703 each. You know the kind, metal with exterior grade carpet and D pull handles. Now to put that into context, your days effort and one sheet of plywood saved you having to fork out anywhere from $1300 to nearly $2 K just to keep tools in.

  • @BrainFizz

    @BrainFizz

    7 жыл бұрын

    I literally spent £12 on the ply, and had it 90% cut to the sizes I wanted by my supplier, the tools I already had (obviously), and I took about 2 hours from start to finish, between things, where I was going to be anyway. I see no reason to spend out on things I can make if it'll be worth it. I see every reason to be organised! :-)

    It's the Trend routing "combination router base", I carry this now instead of the standard fence, as it also acts as a circle cutter, edge trimmer, mortice guide and a few other little jobs all in one jig. It's available in the US from "MPowerTools" as well i believe.
