The reason you read 12v on the throttle motor negative pin is because you are using ground as the reference for your meter and the computer output is high 12v . It goes low to provide the common for the motor to move since it already has 12v power on the motor power side pin 1. In other words the computer provides common return 0V to the motor in order to get it to move.

So if you do a buttefly delete, the only way to not get a CEL is to cap the connector with a load reference cap. You may be on to something for the marketplace!

Great video! If you didn’t have a pot hooked to ground, could you / would you back probe 1 and 5 with the harness plugged in?

You could do it like that yes but the only thing is if there is a issue with 5v ref or ground or signal . You would be back to square one so basically at that point you would be doing that testing knowing that your 3 pot wires are good and your trying to test your power and ground at the throttle body to see if the light flickers during the sweep or not at all . There’s many ways to skin a cat but knowing what failure your troubleshooting is key . I test things like as if everything failed at once so it leaves very little room for error.

@@AD-T Thanks for the info! And makes complete sense, if you are checking wire integrity, you might as well check all.

Have you ever had to work on a 2014 RAM 2500 6.7L with loping issue & no CEL? Especially after replacing a turbo actuator (City Diesel)?

Actuator needs to be installed with a scan tool in order to calibrate sector fork to actuator

What kind of money you making as a diesel tech? I work on cars, but have been thinking about switching over to the diesel world

Depends on what you’re working on . The bigger the engine the more likely your making more money. And also it depends on the area your in. But in a general sense working on diesel will increase your income . But training is key to making money in the diesel side.

@AD-T I know right. Well I stumbled upon another video where the man took the map sensor off the egr and it was caked in black sut and carbon. That would most likely cause the sensor to fail and a check engine light to come on. I'm gonna pick one up and put a new one on tomorrow.
