I find it incredibly ironic that in Odyssey and Valhalla, the female option was the canon one, and yet, as you well explained, they got absolutely neglected in the marketing of both games.

@Chris Moore Don't you think that's in part because Jacob being bi is mostly absent from the game? To be fair, I haven't played through the entire game since it came out seven years ago, so I don't remember a lot of it. But I personally do not remember where in the game was it implied that Jacob was bi. And no, that one scene where Roth kisses Jacob doesn't really count since he did it out of nowhere, and only did it because he could. Literally, the only thing I could find about Jacob being bi was the writer saying he is, nothing more. It's not good representation if the audience can't even tell what the character is representing. Ask people if they knew that Jacob was bi, I bet most people won't be aware of it.

Because most of the gamers would've called it woke. They call it woke. Hell! If Assassin's Creed 3 had been released today, it too would've been woke because we control a Native American whose looking for revenge on the one who set his settlement on fire

I dropped off of AC after Origins, and I didn't even know you could be a female Eivor in Valhalla until I played it. And the story is way better with a female Eivor. There's an actual twist, unlike male Eivor. Lol

@@juliosilva2301 I started hating Valhalla after a while. But I still believe that was a genius move. You give players the option to play as either gender, and have it make sense. I also like how if you choose to leave it up to the Animus to decide, it chooses female Eivor during most of the game but switches to male Eivor during the Asgard dream sequences.

i know most people prefer jacob but i’ve always preferred evie, she’s wayyy more intelligent, methodical and thinks logically, jacob is a great character but when he consistently makes the same mistakes it doesn’t give you much respect for his character, great video really enjoyed.

Ubisoft also missed an opportunity to give Shao Jun her own game instead of just being in a comic book. She was trained by the legendary Assassin, Ezio, and she can also be the first female protagonist and her descendant, Ko Risa, might be the best modern day protagonists instead of Layla I just wish we can explore more of her and hope you cover her as well I love her and her descendant, Risa, it has more story connected to lore of the game than Layla and Odyssey and Valhalla

talking about how defined and consistent Evie is (i love her so much…..ma’am your hand in marriage pls…..ma’am….) make me realise that being all over the place and undefined is Jacob’s thing. bECAUSE Jacob doesn’t know who he is. wow okay. ALSO I DIDNT REALISE THE FRYE TWINS WERE IN GRIEVING DURING THE TIME OF THE GAME??? YOU’RE RIGHT, THAT PUTS THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE MUCH BETTER?? and Evie comparing Jacob to their father at the end, implying that she wouldn’t be able to live without him without some kind of obsessive grieving, honestly makes me so 🥺🥺🥺

I like that Evie definitely has a more clearly defined arc than her brother which makes it all the more disappointing when she has such limited screen time with her own missions. She works best as a pair with Jacob and they needed to hit the message harder that their refusal to work together is a hindrance to their respective goals. We kind of get it because Evie has to tidy up the impact of Jacob’s impulsive assassinations, if they had worked together no doubt the mess could have been avoided. We needed something similar with Jacob impacting her search for the piece of Eden negatively directly beyond slowing her down while she repairs his damage to the various industries. Then I agree we needed more time with the twins together to confront each other on their mistakes before their argument on the train, it felt underdeveloped. I always play as Evie for the open world and the side missions because it feels like she would actually care the most about the people of London and their suffering but this also feels contrary to her search for the piece of Eden. This is where the gameplay feels contradictory to the story in this game. I liked the idea that Starrick is untouchable so the twins focus their attention on undoing him and his plans by taking out the other Templars and retrieving the piece of Eden, but he needed to be a more public figure in London. That could also explain why they can’t attack him directly. It would also be interesting if the game had done more with the impact of the media. Bell may have been a side character but this had a lot of potential that could change the gameplay as the story progresses if the Templars used their influence on the media to turn the public and the police against the Assassins. Something similar to the notoriety system in the older games where the twins actively have to work to improve their reputation by helping people, this could tie in the side missions with the main plot much more. The game overall needed to synch the story and gameplay together in a more interesting way. Evie still stands as one of my favourite Assassins but ultimately she is part of a duo which is somehow a great strength as well as a weakness unfortunately. Excellent video!

Evie was so much better than Jacob as a character. Jacob just treated his work like a game, while Evie wisely thought out her plans and took the Templar threat very seriously. I wish Evie would've been the sole protagonist of AC Syndicate.

I always loved how syndicate felt like Ubisoft was directly addressing the two types of players of the franchise. Hot headed people who rush in and just kill everybody and don’t care about the lore as much. Then the other stealthy ones who care deeply about the lore and would prefer to not fight everybody. And syndicate delivers on both.

JtR was fantastic. It’s basically a portal into what the tone of the base game should have been, or would have led to. Damn shame. Also, I know it’s relatively small, but it would be amazing if you covered the WW1 section at some point!

Personally, when it came down to the twins, I like playing as Jacob more as Evie always went by the books and seem to never want to stray from that plan that she made well us as the players never really had a plan. Jacob, sort of made up plans as he went and only until the end did we see her break away from that. Not saying I don't like Evie, but she's my least favorite of the twins.

Had to shed a tear when Henry finally decided to be useful💀It's such a shame that Evie's development was stopped multiple times just because of Jacob's story. She was the better Assassin and deserved her own game without anyone holding her back. She's my favorite Assassin so far and i enjoyed the Jack the Ripper DLC so much (Jacob didn't💀) "I've never liked balls" -Miss Evie Frye

I don't know if I've read it somewhere or if I make it up, but I think once again that Evie must have been the main (and only) protagonist when they wrote the script, and they added the brother because female characters don't sell according to Ubisoft's heads. That might explain the lack of balance and the lack of interactions between the 2 characters. Otherwise it is a great series of videos and I long for you to reach Origins who has the last great main protagonist of AC (for me).

I do love the comparison between Ubisoft, previous and future titles… … I think Ubisoft missed what the longer term player base’s problem was. It wasn’t the games. It was churning them out so frequently that the quality and story telling was suffering. If instead of rushing they cycled between releases of AC, WD and FC in 3 year cycles… as their flag ships. They’d have created 3 stronger franchises, rather than weaker ones

Though not like i wouldn't ever touch them and i thought Evie is a great character, and theirs maby other's but yea i prefer dudes. And for Future ac games id perfer they just make one mc whether female or male. It just feels bad to lie to people.

I don't really think that the fact that Ubisoft never had a female protagonist is a problem. I think it was the stated reason: "Because women don't sell", that was the problem. Of course, if they just shoved a female protagonist in, and it was clearly to virtue signal to freaks on twitter, that would be 10 times worse than if they just never had a female protagonist.
