Another tip. If you have food items to be thrown out but they are not compost compatible. Put them in a bag and place them in the freezer until your collection date. This eliminates any odors, completely.

I canceled my garbage service three or four years ago in favor of taking my garbage to the dump every four months or so (at $15 a trip, versus $45 a month for my city garbage service), and I do exactly that with the very little that I can't compost). I keep a box in my stand-alone freezer to collect it. Saves almost $500 a year. I doubt I could do that if I were on city water and sewer, but since I'm on a well and septic, I just told them to put me on a "vacation hold" and there I stay.

i live in an apartment building and if i have food scraps sitting even a few minutes it can attract fruit flies or ants so i take them to the dumpster ASAP. i am OCD with trying to keep them out of the apartment. in the winter if the sidewalk is slippery or if it's pouring down rain i put it in the freezer. i also don't get any odors from things.

Hi. Melissa. I have started watching your videos going right back to the beginning and they have given me the motivation to clean and declutter my whole house. I watch your videos while I am sorting and cleaning and they keep me motivated. I have bought some spray bottles and ingredients to make my own cleaning products. I am hoping by the end of my declutter and clean that it will be much easier to keep on top of things. The more i clear out the things I don’t need, the better I feel. Thanks for all the advice, ideas and cleaning hacks. 😊

Re dust mites, this is why you should leave your sheets pulled down when you first get up. Let your perspiration evaporate because a moist environment encourages dust mites. Don't make your bed until the bed is dry (half hour). Best practice, wrap the mattress in a zippered dust mite/bed bug proof cover. Over that, a padded mattress cover you can wash and dry, which will kill all the dust mites. Dead.

“Magically” brings back memories for me. Years ago when my kids were young teens/tweens, they would bring a drinks or food to their rooms which were upstairs. Outside there room was a desk where they would place them when they were done. 😮. I would naturally pick those up when I would see them and take them to the kitchen. They deemed it the “Magic Desk”, because their dishes would magically disappear.😂😂 I can laugh now but at least it wasn’t left in their rooms.

Can you explain more on the “points of contact”. When I clean handles/light switches etc with a disinfectant, I have to put a cloth on the floor underneath and when I spray the disinfectant it drips and makes a mess. Most disinfectant recommend you leave them wet for 10 minutes. It seems to take forever, is messy and uses a lot of clothes. Is this the correct way? I know ( from experience) if just placing a Lysol wipe on a handle for 10 minutes it doesn’t drip but I usually need 2 clothes so they don’t dry out and the wipes coroid anything metal.

Use a cleaning product that doesn't need to sit for 10 minutes... spray it directly into a cloth and wipe clean.

@@saramations do you have any product recommendations? I’m in Canada and have not come across any that are less than 10.
