I am so glad the animals take advantage of the water hole you have provided for them. The coyote was thirsty!

Like others, I wonder if this animal has some dog ancestry. Does it seem to you to have the same body shape and fur texture as other coyotes in your area? I ask because coyotes vary a lot over their range - the ones up here in Canada are stocky with thick fur and small ears while the ones in New Mexico are lanky with short fur and huge ears.

Would a lone coyote be able to do anything with a fully grown buck?

Interesting the “socks” and white chest, the markings similar to domesticated breeds like boxers; would love to see his genetics

Maybe, or possibly just a melanistic variant.

I can't share enthusiasm for Coyotes. They are relentless killers not native originally to the area. They will stalk a human being and KILL them. I know, I have been stalked by one. A woman was killed in a park, eaten alive by Coyotes that attacked her. This is normal for coyotes. They have decimated populations of deer because they were never a normal species to this area. A young 9 year old girl was viciously attacked in North Carolina while just sitting on her front porch and her mother had to save her daughter from the attack. Ignorance is not bliss.

Just for perspective though, there are just two documented cases of coyotes killing humans in all of North America. And they're moving into urban areas and becoming more aggressive is due to humans encroaching into what was their territory. Frankly, I'm more afraid of uptown Charlotte than any coyote encounter in the woods.
