Only John could play Uncle Buck. He was essentially Buck, his daughter even said as much in an interview.

The only reason you think that is because you’ve only seen John Candy play that role. It would be weird seeing someone else play him because you’ve only seen him act in this movie. With that being said, Danny Devito probably could’ve played the role well too if he said the same exact lines John did.

@@woahitscoby9122 nah, part of the character was John imposing size. From using the school urinal to threatening the boyfriend, the physical comedy was a big part and not many actors that would be believable as a goofy kind hearted uncle would pull it off. If they tired the movie definitely wouldn’t be as beloved as it is because of John Candy.

It makes sense because there's that part where Miles thinks he sees 3 guys looking back lol

Danny DeVito is the only one I could see (other than the Candy-Man himself of course) playing Uncle Buck. Nicholson would’ve made it too creepy and Cruise would’ve made it too awkward.

I love Uncle Buck the character and John Candy but just watched the film it's super dated. Pacing is weird and it just didn't age as well as some other classics.
