The fact that Buster worked at a bank for 40 year's and didnt start acting professionally until he was 57 makes his performace even more amazing

Ha ha. I was just going to write that word for word! I've heard the story that the rest of the cast gave him a hard time to start with as they were pally with Leonard Pearce, but he played the role of Albert 100%. I'm fact, I much preferred his character over granddad.

@BM-jy6cb grandad was great but Buster really came into the role! It didn't quite gel at first I recently went back and watched the episodes in order but the chemistry became amazing pretty fast

My favourite moment in the entire show. The first time i saw this was one of the only times ive ever cried from laughter 😂. Buster Merryfield’s comic timing here is brilliant.

I still cry from laughter

There's a reason why Only Fools and Horses is a national treasure, and you can see it right there in this scene. You won't find funnier comedy anywhere in all of British TV. Grandad was really really funny, but when Uncle Albert came along the comedy hit a new dimension. The whole cast were just firing on all cylinders by this stage, the timing was perfect, and the scripts were amazing. This one, along with 'There's a Rhino Loose in the City' and Del and Trigger at the nightclub with Del falling through the bar, are the greatest comedy moments ever from the funniest show ever. Brilliant.

Del falling through the bar, one of the greatest comedy moments? lol. You're really selling OFAH short.

There used to be a bar in Los Cristianos, Tenerife, called Laurel & Hardy's. They kept their pint glasses in the freezer and had Only Fools & Horses running all the time they were open. Me and the boys spent about 90% of our days in that bar, it was a genius idea!

Buster's acting is brilliant, the way he is looking at del to see when he should gasp...all anxious, then when he is supposed to, he is sipping the brandy😂

I remember watching this the very first time. This made me laugh more than any other Uncle Albert scene ever. Just brilliant.

Just the whole idea behind this scene is genius. The way the whole thing is teed up by Del and Albert's tête-à-tête at the beginning, and then the absolutely razor sharp comedy timing by Buster Merryfield with David Jason's reactions. On any other lesser sitcom they'd probably only get away with one mis-timed gasp, but here they go not one but two steps above and beyond thanks to the brilliant writing and comedy acting genius. And then when it is time for the "real" fake reaction and Albert completely misses his cue, well, that just puts it on another level entirely!

It’s funny as anything although his comment about asking Rodney to do window cleaning and Rodney stating he doesn’t like heights. Then Uncle Albert asks if Rodney can specialise in bungalows 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Don't know how many times I've seen this clip. Always make me laugh.

If you pause at 3:58, you can spot the moment where David Jason is trying to contain a smile. I imagine it must've been difficult to keep a straight face during this scene.

JUST CLASS entertainment from the Writers, Producers and Actors.

Timeless tv show. One of my favorites :D

For anyone young enough not to have seen this before, this is what true comedy and writing and acting looks like.

Imagine just walking into the front room getting ready to go out and your Uncle keeps looking at you and making yelping noises for no reason at all

As many have said, one of the best scenes in all of OFAH.

Talking of funny, my most favourite episode is Tea For Three, especially that part when Rodney says, “Yeah, well, he used to be 6 foot 1, but like he said, he had a bad landing.” It is one of the funniest lines in comedy history. I also like the bit when Del says, “You can’t stand around street corners with your face. The traffic will be waiting for you to change to green.”

This is the funniest part of the whole show. Absolute brilliant.

Comedy will never be the same. Come on y'all let's admit it. Can't beat only fools, del boy, rodney, Boycie, and the gang

An excellent bit of casting given the sad circumstances of Lennard Pearce's passing. Introducing a character Del and Rodney barely knew worked wonderfully. Albert wasn't a better character than Grandad but he was more versatile.

No must have taken a few shots. Just mention the episode with the chandelier was filmed in just one take the reason for this was obvious as they were about to break a chandelier though not priceless still expensive & therefore the actors Nick & david were strictly told not to laugh otherwise it would ruin the whole scene. I admire their restraint & not laughing out loud still must have been hard.

I haven’t stopped laughing since I watched this on its first showing 😂

OFAH = The Best UK Comedy Show of All-Time, it's as plain and simple as that.

Buster was a top fella, that whole cast were put together by a team that knew what they were doing, after the old granddad passed away..they get Buster masterstroke.

Its so wonderful that Del took Uncle Albert in cos he's family and had nowhere to live. Also you often see Del hand Uncle Albert cash to make sure he's ok. Uncle Albert always says thank you.👍

The transition to a new character following Lennard Pearce's death was handled brilliantly. It was also quite risky because Grandad's character was a very hard act to follow.

@@geoffpoole483The BBC wanted to recast the role of granddad but Sullivan was against that, they also wanted an elder woman character but David Jason said he couldn’t treat her like how they did granddad like shoving them in the van. They did it great in the end, Buster was never a replacement he was his own character that’s what made it work better

I love the way Rodney brings Jive Bunny into this. One of the best bands of the 80's I might add.

Trigger and Kosmo from Seinfeld, are the funniest characters from Sitcoms for me, because they are played by excellent actors.
