My first time hear Sam Hui must have been 財神到. Later when I heard 追求三部曲,有酒今朝醉,打雀英雄傳.... I was so hooked. It was cassettes from my older brothers friend. We listened to the tape to death. My older brother later bought our first ah Sam album 念奴嬌 (1980), listened to that one to death too. It brings a lot of fond memories. Couldn't keep the tape because it broke, but I still have the cds(1st press), they still sound good even til today.

Mr. Boo albums weren't released in Hong Kong, but the songs are the same as the Hong Kong counterpart, it just had a different cover and label... Haha.. I was expecting more, but I guess that was my imagination. I agree with you, it is quite expensive as a whole, knowing you have some of the albums/songs already. But thinking of it, $8 per cd is pretty good... better than those fake CDs that they sell in a Flea Market which they charge $12-15 for each CD.

This set is pretty good, however, few days ago, they released a new set, containing few of Sam's rare song, but I don't think it is worth the price, I believe it's 28 CDs for $200, and there is fewer songs. I think this set is a good deal, or just get the Sam hui 18 CD set collection, I believe that one is around $150.

Hi, thank you! I was born and raised in Canada, but I lived in Hong Kong for a year. I spoke pretty good Cantonese most of my childhood. When I began elementary school, that was when English was mandatory, and I couldn't learn both languages, my parents put me in Chinese school for couple of years, I did very poorly. But years later, I wish I would've tried better in learning Cantonese. So that's why I began singing Cantonese songs, hoping to improve... but the pronunciation isn't quite there.

Haha! Thanks Ringo, I'm hoping to sing more songs because of this album, since I listened thru all the songs, I found some songs that I liked, but never managed to sing them yet. I'll have a new cover in a couple of days.

I can relate! I'm also born and raised in Canada and love classic Cantopop. I bought at 18 CD collection years ago that had all of his Cantonese albums. Some of the later albums had terrible recording quality. Does this set have the same problem? Is it worth getting if I already own the 18 CD set from before?

Thanks for viewing! Unfortunately this set is currently not available anymore. I've found that one song from the 1990's Hong Kong Style Concert, there was only one track that is a bet messy, the other than that the songs are very good quality. The 18 CD set you have are from 1974-1990, and doesn't contain any CDs that were release outside of Hong Kong as well as live concerts. Hmm... I think your collections is already good as is... I think there is a concert collection album of his 87, 89, and 90 concerts. However, I see the set that I have now is similar to yours, it just has exclusive CDs that were released outside of Hong Kong and his concerts. There is another collection released not too long ago, it includes his album when he was still in the band "The Lotus", and it also contains songs that debut in movies, which is in this certain set, but not in the set I have. Overall I think the album you have already is good enough, there are albums you could buy separate to add to your collection...

SingaSong4416 Thanks for the input. I'll have to think about it. I can still get this set locally I think. The albums outside of Hong Kong and concerts I'm not too concerned about. I'm more concerned with the sound quality of the original 18 Cantonese albums and this set has all those albums. This set is also all of the back to black CD's which was supposedly "remastered" and my set was not. My issue with my current set is some of the mid 80s albums are on are terrible in sound quality. The first 2 were the best which was Games Gamblers Play and Last Message. I looked at the 23 CD singles set, but doesn't seem to be worth the money. I'm always looking for Sam Hui CDs in high quality, so I always get suckered into SACD, K2HD and all of those audiophile formats. This set has peaked my interest and all those English albums is a bonus as well. I will think real hard on what to do. Thanks!

Nathan C The sound quality of this "Back To Black" set is outstanding. I've been thinking about getting the other "Back To Black" 28 CD set, but there isn't that much songs included that set and it is rather expensive, but.. it would look great in my collection. Ah yes.. The "Back to Black" set I have contains few of Hui's English album. If you can get a hold of this set, it would be great, you will not be disappointed!

You speak better English than Cantonese. You live and born in Canada??
