Unboxing: Orion Ritchey Chretien 8" (203mm) Astrograph!

Ғылым және технология

My Orion Ritchey Chrétien 8 inch astrograph has just arrived! After years of using an inexpensive telescope, I have finally purchased a high-quality astrograph, made for astrophotography, and a heavy Atlas mount!!!
In a few days, the mount will arrive in it will get its own un-boxing video.
I will produce several videos showing not only my review of how well this unit works, but also some information on how to use such a unit to take photographs

Those mirrors are hyperbolic. Parabolic mirrors are in standard Newtonian reflectors.

Hi. I also bought one of these scopes. I have one question. Can you optically (not photographically) get the scope to focus sharp on a star without using any of the extension tubes?

What a great shielding ... If you want a 150 mm mirror sensitivity, you buy a telescope with a 200 mm mirror. :D

Nice vid. Would you still need a coma corrector for the ritchey chretien astrographs or would that just be redundant?

Great video ! Sorry but I cut my twine on bales of hay under tension by cutting from the under side ! Then it cuts like a knife through butter ! Have checked the local astronomy web sale page and no heavy duty Tripods ! Though one lady sold a six inch telescope for $75.00 USD (My brother has the same model 110 VAC from a wall outlet). Thank you for the knife review ! tjl

It's possible to mount the telescope using that vixen dovetail on "top"... you don't have to use the Losmandy dovetail.

I also have one of those, not used it much though to be honest. Really prefer a big refractor (NP127is for wide-field) and ODK12 (small stuff like galaxies). You realise that getting into astrophotography is going down a rabbit hole? You think the scope is the big cost? LOL! Hope you enjoy it anyway :-) PS. To get the best out of learn how to collimate an RC scope, can be tricky but easier if you have a laser providing a circular diffraction pattern.

antiprotons hey antiprotons, I was wondering what Geiger counter/radiation monitor you would recommend for someone who wants the capability to measure high levels (Sv/h) and low levels (micro sieverts/h). I ask this because most counters for sale seem to only be able to measure really low levels.

Someone send him a good sharp knife or a sharpmaker, jesus ;D But on topic: So, i bought a 8" Celestron EHD one year ago. Unfortunately i used it only three times since then and i really have to do something about that. In 80% the wheater is bad - in 2% im sick in 3% i have to deal with oder things, in 5% i am to lame to do anything after work in another 5% im to afraid to risk getting ill because i have to do my work... And then there are 5% which I HAVE TO USE FOR THIS. Oh my god, i am getting ill seeing my telescope getting dusty :-(

What part of it don’t you like? The scope itself? The accessories? The mount? I mean, you don’t *need* (even a little) to use an ST80 as a guidescope but it’ll work just fine and it won’t be worse than a random 50mm achromat - and using what you already have is always cheaper than getting something new.

@@JasperJanssen um, actually he need the focal lenght (600mm) of his ST80. That 8" RC is running around 1600mm so you will get shit guiding using a 50mm guidescope.
