I was looking at this version or the wedge style w window overhangs. I ended up with the wedge but wished I'd gotten this model. The wedge is heavy and eats up all of my roof rack , Prinsu on a 2023 4runner. Had I gotten this model I would have saved some space to mount other items on the roof. All in all, I do like the Naturnest. It seems a better build than a RoofNest I was I'm a couple of years ago.

NaturNest seems to make some great products.

Maybe like a golf ball the texturing aids in helping the air flow over it when your driving.

The textured surface reduces drag and improves shell rigidity. Plastics was my game for 15 years as a Process Tech, so trust me on this one.

Nice. I own Nature Nest clam shell and prefer it for quick set-up. Let's get real.... for me, roof tents are, at best, a place to crawl into and sleep. Not recreate within! The quicker the set-up/take-down, the better! I got mine so that 1 or 2 people could spend the night in on weekend adventures. Keeping in mind the ridiculous price of motels these days! Let alone room availability! So less is more.😊

The top is flimsy. But I don’t think it will be an issue with rodents and such.

The concept of these roof top tents are cool, my concern is when it is mounted “high’ on a vehicle the difficulty of tear down and tucking in the material and not ripping it. We had a Northstar pop top TC , one thing I loved about tear down was the maxi fan sucking the canvas in for closure. Wish they’d come up with something like that.

The soft cover tents are a pain in the butt. The aluminum/plastic/fiberglass clam shell styles aren’t bad at all.

Agree, we have an iKamper on top of a lifted van and while it is tall, I spend a few seconds tucking stuff in at max.@@OverlandFlorida

Texture on the hard top is nice but just thinking how hard it is to clean dead bugs off of my car i can imagine how hard it would be on that texture. But overall tent looks cool!

Yeah. I think it would be hard to get mud off of it as well.

What are the closed, extended dimensions. Also, the max extension of the ladder.

What's the product dimensions as close? Trying to see if itll fit my truck rack. I dont want it too wide + long.

The bulging on the side is definitely due to the heat. I had mines unboxed with no bulging at all, I made sure I looked for it because I saw your video before it was delivered. But I had it sitting in the sun for two days and I noticed the bulging in the same area as yours in between the locks. Otherwise though, this tent is looking awesome.

Thanks for the thorough review! I am on the fence between this model and the NaturNest clamshell tent... Can you give me an idea of how the floor plans compare since you have reviewed both? My camp crew is 2 average adults and a 3 year old so I am looking to maximize sleeping area. This tent actually looks narrower (compared to clamshell version) on the interior because of the internal support frame. Any advice you could share if you were between the two models?

Thank you! I feel like the aluminum tent is better. Not only is it stronger, but since it has an aluminum frame you can use the provided roof rack for storage or solar.

Are the side zipper windows in the tent equipped with the same clear plastic/vinyl that zips up so you have light in inclement weather?

No, they just have screen windows. You would have to use the skylight to let light in.

Mount it on a trailer tow it with gear. Plus, fill the car/truck..

I haven’t had any issues in the wind. Other than the awning flapping and keeping me awake. It’s held up fine.

just a guess but I'm going with they make it with those ridges and texture to increase the strength crush wise.

I never worry about the mattress thickness because a $25 Walmart inflatable camping mattress solves that.

It’s the same size as the 3.0 mini. 2 adults can definitely fit comfortably.

Stippling actually makes it a bit more durable I believe.

Thank you for doing this review. There are a slew of identical tents like this on Amazon with all different weights. I have a crosstrek and need something under 170 pounds. You by any chance know the net weight of the tent?

There’s not many tents out there, that are that thin.

I believe the shipping cost is $299 as other similar RTT. The wood crate might add more to the shipping cost.

If you have cross bars, the tent will mount. However, the bars will probably flex with the weight of the tent and or when someone is inside of the tent.

Many new bike rims are using a divot pattern for better air flow. Perhaps that is the reason? Better airflow better MPG.

I think for the price it’s a great tent. Just be careful not to crack the plastic shell or let the tent get damp and moldy.

Thanks for the review. Are you selling it at a discount? You have my email. Question- looks like it slopes to be aerodynamic on the highway. Initial impression would be that I would have to mount it backwards on my run away style camper as I have an awning on the passenger side. Or make more holes and move the awning - thoughts?

Wow I just don’t understand the popularity of these roof-top tents? They were developed for use in areas with dangerous wild animals to keep people off the ground and out of harms way but here in the US they just seem silly? I’ll just pitch my tent the old fashioned way, on the ground so when I have to pee in the middle of the night, I don’t fall off the ladder.. For $1300 bucks, I can buy a nice easy up tent, cots, sleeping bags, and anything else I need and still save money. I just don’t get it..

But if you are going to do it this seems like a cool one! Just struggle with the idea of a tent costing 5 times a decent standard tent because it sits on my truck.
