I used to make the stocks for John Martz the Luger carbine maker from Lincoln, CA in the 1970s and 1980s. With the advent of the M16 type firearm and plastic / polymer stocks it has reduced the market for fine stock making. I also checkered the stocks and I must say that is a very time-consuming procedure.

So, a channel fan just gave it to you? That's some nice gift! It's gonna be great to follow your progress with it. That rosewood and maple as accents will be gorgeous. Do what you like, but I think I'd forget stain. Just don't need it.

Yep , looks like a Richards Micro fit. California style stock. Very comfortable off the sand bags and ergonomic for off hand shooting but may not be as fast handling as the classic style from what I read. Never tested it out first hand. My dad has a Springfield Sporter on that same stock style. Tom , you will like it . Don't be afraid to shape the cheek piece to your liking.

Looks more like a Richard's Microfit to me. The Rollover in particular. They do the angle rosewood endcap and the grip with the maple spacers standard. They also ship unfinished, like what you received. I could absolutely be wrong, but that's just what it looks like to me. At any rate, it'll certainly be a great project!

The fore end looks exactly like a Fajen. I have a 1903 Springfield with a very similar stock my grandfather finished from Fajan in the early 60's

When I saw the stock it screamed Fajen Aristocrat to me. Always wanted one in the 70's but with a family the funds were just not there. Look forward to seeing your progress on this beautiful piece of wood.

Really cool and neat project. I remember as a kid seeing in my uncle's shop the stock blank that he carved on for a long time which now carries my 6mm Remington Mauser 98 action. I asked him when I got the 6mm from him if this was the stock I'd seen for so long hanging on the wall over his work bench and he said yes. He told me that he had a lot of hours and love put into that stock as well as the rifle so every time I get it out to shoot I can't help but think of him.

The white strip are Holly. Maple will stain from the walnut " bleed or whatever you want to call it. If your buying and gluing up get Holly. Maple is available but it won't stay white.

Beautiful stock, in the early 80s I purchased a Enfield that had been modified and mounted in a walnut Fajin stock I would bet the forend piece has been added as well as the grip cap.

I see Fajen. Pop off the recoil pad to see if there's any pencil marks etc. Plus take a magnified look at the inletting and barrel channel. Might be a very tiny mark and date.

Tom, I couldn't agree more about the gorgeous walnut part! That truly is a slick project that is a blessing to the channel! I am not a woodworker and so I'm very ignorant in these matters but will you finish the stock, retaining this natural look or are you inclined to add stain? Either way, it will be gorgeous but I do like that natural look. Do you use something like a urethane or linseed to achieve good preservation? Fantastic piece and Adam really came across a blessing, to be sure. God bless you and your viewers!

I have had some of the older stocks, and own several Boyd's stocks... the Boyd's don't even come close in terms of quality at least recently. The last one I got from them was so flawed I didn't even put it on my gun :(

Dave, it's a post 64 and has the space for the 3rd action screw so 64 to 2006? I know the early classics in the '90's still had 3 action screws and I think they all did until FN moved production to S.C. in '07.. But I'm going to try and put a 2013 on this stock. I know there was some difference in the length of the bottom metal but I'll just have to try it and see.
