Today, Tim unboxes the Atelier Wen Perception V2. The brand was recently launched by two Frenchmen producing watches in China. The attention to detail in the box set is outstanding with architectural motif on the box, and a wax seal that is model specific on the outer sleeve. Housing the watch is a blue lacquered wood box with Atellier Wen nameplate. The box is designed to be an organizer on the desk when open, coming to a peak at the center. Within the box also comes a guide, polishing cloth, travel case and bracelet resizing screw.
The Atelier Wen Perception watch is an interesting shape, inspired by traditional Chinese Pagodas. The bracelet features a solid design with slight tapering. The watch itself measures 40mm across in stainless steel and features a thickness of 9.6mm. From lug to lug the watch measures 47.1mm, but from end link to end link the watch is 50mm. On the wrist the watch is extremely comfortable and features a slider in the clasp for an easy removal and a logo push button for incremental sizing. This Atelier Wen Perception is a robust piece, and would make a worthy addition to any collection.

Absolutely gorgeous dial, well thought out presentation, and the bracelet and clasp look fantastic! The movement may leave something to be desired, but no watch is perfect (especially at this price point). I wonder how this would look on my gorilla-sized 8” wrist. 🤔

Nice ! The design isn't for me, like you said it looks like many other watches however that is very well executed. That dial....man they did a good job on that. Chinese people are very skilled and love the small details, this is a great example of that. Very impressive ! The movement is the let down though.

That is extremely impressive. I do wish they had chosen a different movement, maybe a La Joux Perret or even a Miyota 90S5 but I suppose I get the instinct to keep it all Chinese. The one thing I wonder, if this is the brand with the cave-guilloche. Either way, they did a great job with this, even the presentation is top notch.

This is certainly an interesting independent piece. I will say that omitting hacking seconds at this price point just seems odd in 2024, so I hope they can change that. I love that caseback design with the small window showing the balance - great touch. Rolex spends all the money on the watch, which is how I like it. I wish this watch came in a plastic box and had hacking on the movement. Who cares about the package? I just received my Perception v2. Here's my take. Ultimately, the watch is a Chinese watch, but it is also a really good Chinese watch! For those of us who own a number of high-end luxury watches this watch is going to disappoint in hand. It is undeniably "jangly" in a way that an AP or a Rolex is not. If you've handled a Dietrich TC-1, just as an example, the Atelier Wen bracelet is not as good. If you've ever handled the bracelet on a Pelton Perseus, you will be HIGHLY disappointed here. The Pelton bracelet, for comparison, feels 100 times better. The Pelton machining tolerances are WAY better than on this Atelier Wen. Keep in mind, that a Pelton bracelet is better than an AP Royal Oak bracelet!! Anyway, I digress. The Atelier Wen movement is noisy - much closer to a Miyota than an ETA. It does not wobble though. Winding is solid but not buttery. You know you are winding a Chinese movement. The dial is the star of the show and, maybe, the only star on the cast. The dials are truly BEAUTIFUL. The lume is also really decent. The Atelier Wen Perception, for me, is about on par with Christopher Ward in the end. For example, the Christopher Ward Twelve doesn't deliver this "handmade" dial but it DOES give you a Swiss movement and a titanium option. This Atelier Wen delivers a stunning hand-crafted dial, but does so at the expense of the movement - you're getting a Chinese movement that looks and feels "Chinese". So, let's say between the Christopher Ward Twelve and the Atelier Wen Perception, I'd say go CW if you care about the engine and go AW if you care more about the dial architecture. If you're the type of guy that's happy with a Christopher Ward, you will likely love this watch. If you're more a Rolex or even a Breitling type guy, I think you'll be disappointed with an Atelier Wen. Just doesn't feel like a $3000 watch.

Please quantify that. Mine doesn’t have sharp edges.
