Hi Tone, excellent video once again. My 2 vinyl box set arrived today but no CD as yet, thought they be dispatched together but just nitpicking. Over the moon with vinyl although I agree about the difficulty putting vinyls back in slip case, which could of been more sturdier. One slight disappointment is the lyrics to HW is not included. Apart from these slight discrepancies the box set is brilliant and dont think anyone will be disappointed with the underdub version. Hope CD arrives tomorrow!!! Oops, im moaning again so im off. Enjoy everyone .

My downloads and my CD arrived this morning, and I've been playing it all day, even at work, and I have to say that I love the whole set. Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five on the underdubbed has blown me away along with Jet and Let Me Roll it, now I've got the weekend to enjoy it all through my surround sound system. Thanks very much Rich, glad you enjoyed the video. It's an odd one about the obi-strip on the 2LP set. Maybe it had something to do with getting it back in the box and creasing it up. It's a tight fit in there. Could be the reason but annoying

Again good video, I enjoy your coverage. i have a 1973 copy in NM to M shape. Still in shrink with hype sticker and poster. This album looks as if was never played. It has a great sound and I bought it for $8 a couple of years back. I will pick up a single version vinyl of the new release, it sounds like a fair deal at $35. My only issue with out take albums is that I don't ever listen to them after the first time, but if you like your collection to have them sounds good. Thanks

I buy records through the year and then hide them away and give to my wife to give me back as birthday and Xmas presents. I reckoned she would have been unsure which one to get so I thoughtfully got both versions as I am sure she would have done that😂

Hi Tone & I'm enjoying the double vinyl set & the Half Speed Remaster is flawless as is the Underdubbed album certainly has a few surprises but I do have a problem with the CD release as surely the original album should have been a brand new 2023/24 Remaster & it's a bit of a con just rehashing the 2010 one instead!! It's a bit disappointing but at least it saved my forking out on it even though I did want a digital copy of the Underdubbed version.... Still all will be forgiven if London Town & Back to the Egg get an Archive release this year but I'm more living in hope now with each passing year! Great video as always.

Hi Stephen , Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the video. Im guessing that they didnt consider the CD needed remastering again as the 2010 is also an excellent sounding CD. Maybe there should have been a stand alone Underdubbed CD to avoid repetition. Agree that the vinyl is superb . fingers crossed for LT and BTTE archive releases this year

The 2 CD version is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. The only other version of it that I have is a 1970's U.S. cassette version of it.😁

Thanks for the unboxing Tone. Symmetry is absolutely all important so I ordered both the single and double vinyl LP editions. I have just been notified that they have been dispatched, but according to the tracking info, are still somewhere in the northern hemisphere 😔 In the meantime I have had just one streaming listen to the underdubbed version, but am holding out for the vinyl before forming any opinions. Looking forward to your review later in the week.

Hi Back in the 70’s not long after Band on Run came out while still young l got it on Cassette in Australia and Helen Wheels was on the cassette version. But when I got the 2010 version on vinyl in Australia Helen Wheels was not this version. I’m glad that the 50 th Anniversary has Helen Wheels on vinyl,

@@musicsoundgear How many versions of Dark Side of the moon have their been? Remember Paul is an employee of Capitol Records. He is not in the marketing department and will have little to do with what get released and what doesnt. All marketing decisions are made by the marketing department not the musicians themselves. Once an album has been delivered to the label by the musicians , the label has control

Thanks for the video Tone, I’m looking forward to your review. I’m enjoying the Underdub as additional interest; nineteen hundred and eighty five with no vocals is striking. The new re-master sounds great, real clarity in parts. No obi though! What can you say? There’s no consistency of packaging to the McCartney Archive collection or The Beatles’ box sets, only Lennon camp has created consistency of presentation. I think more care could be taken on presentation: having Helen Wheels on the remaster but no lyrics! All the best, Paul

You're welcome Paul, glad you enjoyed it. I agree that the Lennon camp have really nailed the box set format and it's a shame that Paul's reissue programme hasnt followed suit. Im thinking the no obi might be something to do with it getting creased when putting the album back in the slip case as its a real tight fit but very annoying to have to but the album twice just to get the obi-strip for consistency . And the Helen Wheels lyrics is an off one for sure. But more care needed in presentation.

Fantastic video, bit jealous! I was unable to purchase 2lp version from Australian Universal Music websites, so I am patiently waiting for my version to come from the US. Enjoy listing to the US version of the album and the Underdubbed version. Oh, the only difference between the 2010/2017 and the 2023 50th. Anniversary version is that the 50th Anniversary version is the US album and not the UK version. Did you notice that the inner sleeve of the Half Speed Master is the UK inner sleeve not the US inner sleeve. I grew up with the US version. As EMI Records Australia would release both the US and UK versions of the albums at different times.

Beatley Tone - thanks for the video! You stated that you are guessing that the main BOTR album is basically the remaster included in the 2010 Archive Collection. If you definitively determine that, please let us know. But, some food for thought: Giles Martin recently created a brand new Dolby Atmos mix. I am wondering if this "new" BOTR CD could have been derived from that work? (and thus be a fresh stereo remix) Mike P.S. my CD set has not yet been delivered - same as you stated at the end of your video, it's disappointing if the main BOTR is a 13-14 year old remaster

I wasn’t going to bother ,but to my embarrassment I’ve gone for the 2 LP set on a late night whim despite saying ‘who wants early versions’. I still think the second album will be a bit underwhelming but I’m a mug! My excuse is I’m trying to slowly restock my vinyl collection of McCartneys stuff after getting rid of it when CDs came on the scene.

Early versions are interesting to hear but I rarely go back to them. I like to have them though. Although I stopped buying vinyl when Cd arrived im so glad I didnt sell all my vinyl - so I have no excuse !!! 😂

The LP is a half speed mastering but the Cd is the 2010 remaster

I got my double LP this morning. Already has wear on the BOTR inner. Not quite a split but well rubbed. Small crease on the corner of the Underdubbed inner too. Why can't they shell out for poly lined inners anyway? It's not like it's going to add a huge cost to the product and, even if you're going for authenticity, the Underdubbed vinyl has never been released before. This was manufactured in Germany and typically the Germans used to put their vinyl in poly lined inners so it makes no sense. On the plus side, the vinyl sounds great with no surface noise and it is completely flat with the hole properly centred.

Shame that your inners are damaged. At the prices they charge these days for vinyl, they should come with poly lined inners but glad you are pleased with the sound - I think its superb

I am not an audiophile type of person and I don't have a turntable. I did order the CD set which arrived earlier today. However, even though I have no record player and my ears are crappy, I did order the half speed mastered vinyl from Amazon yesterday. I don't know why. I'm supposed to get that tomorrow. Maybe I'll give the records away. Or maybe I'll buy a cheap record player that has a built in speaker like I had as a child. What do you think I should do?

Well I wouldn't but a cheap record player it won't reproduce the sound of the HSM very well Rick. The trouble with records is they are dependant on your gear and and your ears and everyone hears things differently . Tricky dilemma for sure Rick. I guess you could keep the record as a sealed piece or as its amazon, just get a refund if you dont think you'll play it. I can tell that ive not been very helpful here

Due to the eccentric availability issues regarding the CD of this, I scooted off to HMV to get a copy this afternoon. No idea what has been happening with Amazon or the Psul McCartney site. Not impressed there at all. Anyway, I got to hear the underdubbed version on release day, in spite of all of that. So was it worth the effort and the gnashing of teeth? The answer is yes. The sparser arrangements, interesting soundstage, alternative vocals and the odd comments and vocalisations make for a fascinating archaeological exploration. I'm on my second listen now and I think that a headphones listen will prove interesting too, at some point. I won't trample on your review of the individual tracks by going further with the comments and look forward to hearing your take on the release. Even though they have included Helen Wheels on the standard album, they have not inserted the lyrics on the sleeve (I believe that is the case for the vinyl version too). Some sort of sleeve note explaining the underdubbed version would have been nice also, to explain the origin and reasoning behind this mix. To those buying on spec it may seem a little odd. The price I paid at HMV (£22.99) is over the top for an album I essentially have four or five times already. I am really paying for the underdubbed rough mix. My choice though. I wanted to hear it. And I am glad to have been able to do so. I may not be as gracious if they suddenly find the original demos and try this ploy again!

That was expensive for the CD version. HMV have never been cheap have they Dave. Still at least you have it on release day. The ommission of the HW lyrics is an odd one - more care needed for sure. I understand what you say about the demos but I would love to hear those songs played with Denny and Henry so if they ever turn up -Im in ! Feel free to write 'mug' on my rather large forehead.

I'd be a mug too! I just get the feeling, that in recent times the Beatles camp has dropped the ball somewhat. A lot of semi-thought through ideas. Never used to be like that. Enjoying the underdubbed versions a lot though, in spite of everything. Looking forward to your review.

Would have been nice if the box had been a bit sturdier instead of that flimsy card stock. Otherwise, the two LP set is a decent value, even without the obi. The tiny poster in the CD set is indeed quite silly.

I have three versions of BOTR: a ‘76 US pressing, the 3 disc Archive Collection and now the 50th Anniversary 2 CD and none have Helen Wheels lyrics printed anywhere, despite all three containing the track.

Hi Tone, remember i said i'll give this a miss, well i relented. Finding myself walking past fopp in the west end i went and got it (2 CD) . Well it's Macca ain't it and he could sell me Heathers missing leg. Waiting on the next thing now hoping for archive stuff, take care.

Fopp is really good value. My son tells me it is the budget arm of HMV.

What so different about half speed? It’s a marketing strategy so people who have this album buy it again!! Also, McCartney makes you buy the album if you want the under dupped version The half speed versions have gotten bad reviews from audiophiles who say that there’s nothing different about them

Dave you are a ‘flat earther’. You dont like something (not that youve even heard it) it doesnt exist. Watch the video , i tell you what is different in the words of the brilliant miles Showell who did the engineering. No audiophiles are givibg this bad reviews so stop embarrassing yourself

@@paulduggan5323 That’s good!! My biggest complaint is that you can’t buy the in dupped version without having to buy Band On The Run again The half speed might sound good but the copy I have sounds good so I don’t want another copy!!

I'm a big McCartney fan but I don't plan to invest in the 50th anniversary edition. I have listened to the underdubbed mixes which quite frankly are quite underwhelming and not something that I would listen to more than once.

except it's not a re re re issue as the under dubbed mixes have never been released before. no you're right you cant buy the Underdubbed mixes alone but I think the Underdubbed mixes need the finished album alongside them for context for people who are just arriving at this album. The double CD price is very reasonable at £15.99 imo
